yes imagine the nerve of these people.wanting to have a big party on the happiest day of their lives and celebrate with family and friends.and the audacity to invite you along to join.you are completely reasonable to comlain, the show offs.
why get annoyed about someone inviting you to a nice party.who cares what they spend that's their choice.do you also scowl at parents who spend a couple of grand on their childs 18th/21st parties?

No they're not. You have breached a rule. You will be emailed and your membership deleted I'm afraid. Tis a mathematical certainty.

I don't think it is necessarily showing off. We had our wedding in a similar venue which wasn't that expensive. I had always wanted a typically english country wedding, I never really gave a thought to whether other people would consider it to be showing off.

VictorianPASqualor · 25/03/2008 16:56

My wedding will be massive, I want to hire a castle, plus rooms so all my friends and DP's family that live all over the world can come stay.
I am also v pretentious and really up my own arse so need at least one day where it's all about ME and I think the castle will top that off nicely.

Mind your own.

pukka · 25/03/2008 16:58

ithoughtb a wedding was the one time when showing off was acceptable

VictorianPASqualor · 25/03/2008 17:03

Yeah exactly, what's wrong with saying 'I'm soooo in love and am celebrating the beginnin of the rest of my love with my perfect partner, and whilst I'm doing it I'm going to get soshed on posh fizz and have it somewhere I don't have to clean up afterwards'?

FWIW, I did try to persuade DP to just clear off to Vegas and get married but he wasn't having any of it.

Might you be just slightly jealous???

needacuppa · 25/03/2008 18:59

Seems like you have issues with the couple. Don't go, it will be costing them a lot per head and I'm sure they invited you to share their day with them not sulk your way through it. they aren't asking you to pay for it are they? People who have a big expensive wedding usually want everyone to enjoy themselves. YABU

alicet · 25/03/2008 19:19

We had our wedding in a similar type venue. We could afford it as we sold my flat for much more than expected before it. In retrospect I think we could have used the money more wisely but we had the day we wanted and everyone had a lovely time.

YABU. Why does it matter to you how much they spend on their wedding - they're not asking you to pay for it are they? Let them enjoy their day as they wish.

alicet · 25/03/2008 19:20

I wasn't showing off by the way. I wanted a beautiful day in a special place that I could remember forever.

ALMummy · 25/03/2008 19:49

Well I certainly want to show off my wedding venue here.

Youcannotbeserious · 25/03/2008 20:03

AlMummy!

Is that your DH?

ALMummy · 25/03/2008 20:11

Of course - I wanted to show him off too obviously .

kitsmummy · 25/03/2008 20:21

Blimey codhotbod in the previous thread i read you were asking why someone was having a nice ring and now you're being nasty about someone's venue, do you have a bit of a chip on your shoulder about weddings?

Ooh... Wow!! LittleLapin - Dartmouth is LOVELY!!!!

We got married in Vegas, at The Wynn, which was just gorgeous and the whole thing cost around £7K, but that was flights and included our honeymoon in San Francisco (where it would appear we brought home a little more than a stick of rock - we got married in September 07 and DS is due in May 08 !!)

I obviously missed the thread about rings... Codhotbod would HATE mine... they are HUGE!!!
