Which white wine to drink?

I feel a bit ‘over’ Sauvignon blanc with its strong acidic taste, with that having been my white wine of choice for about a decade.
what’s next? What’s en vogue at the moment? I like dry, maybe a bit more mellow than Sauvignon blanc.
any favourites you’d recommend?
most commonly I buy at Lidl and normally go for £7-8 a bottle, but can buy elsewhere.
im the only adult in the house and normally have one bottle a week spread over the weekend.
I need a new favourite!

Pouilly Fuisse or Pouilly Fume, both very very dry.

Pouilly Fume is Sauvignon Blanc and Pouilly Fuisse is Chardonnay so you may want to avoid the former. Pouilly Fuisse is delicious though.

@yesminister

Another vote for picole de pinet

Not sure how you spell it but the Tesco finest one is about £8 a bottle it's lovely.

I also buy Cremant when Waitrose has its 25% off deal. Prosecco is generally vile, especially the lower end of the price range which ain't wide anyway (although I'd drink it if there was nothing else)

@PuppyMonkey look what's just appeared in the Lidl app!
I presume you have the same offers this week in the UK. 😁 🥂

Asda do a nice Muscadet that's my favourite. White Burgandy also.

PuppyMonkey · 29/02/2024 12:10

@BaronessBomburst that is very interesting!

PS Most of the time when people say they like a dry white they actually mean one with good, yet balanced, acidity. Yes they will also mean "dry" - but pretty much every white wine you encounter in this country will be a dry one, unless you're looking at dessert wines, because "dry" is a measure of sugar content, and semi-sweet wines are not popular or widely sold. (Some rosés tip into semi-sweet and of course there are excellent semi-sweet wines made and sold around the world, but in the UK they are rare.)

People sometimes experience oaking as sweetness because of the vanilla flavour it lends, but it doesn't actually make wines less dry as it doesn't affect the sugar levels.

Most pub/restaurant menus and most supermarket selections will only include dry wines for example.

Oyster Ball
Soave
Sancerre
Are all favourites- as is Sauvignon Blanc
