I’ve inherited a very good knife and a little bit of money and I’ve used the knife today and it’s so sharp it’s life changing. It’s been a joy to chop everything and it’s made me wonder what I’m missing out on. What’s the thing you have that’s expensive but worth every penny?

Not really a product, but laser hair removal. Proper laser as a proper clinic

Did I say laser hair removal?

Have 0 fanny hairs or underarm hairs, smooth legs all the time. Amazing stuff. It's been worth it's £££

Do you mind me asking which clinic you went to for this, or do you know which brand of laser machine they used? I’ve been saving up to have it done since the menopause turned me into a gorilla, and I’ve now got the dosh but haven’t gone through with it yet because I’m worried about spending a lot of money on something that might not work!

Wolford Merino tights £40 a pair but I will never wear anything else. The best winter tights. Doc Martens. Amazingly comfortable and the fur lined winter ones are great. Make my life easier because I don't need to buy anything else.

I see that boiling water taps have a lot of votes. If anyone is thinking of getting one, my experience with Quooker service has been fantastic. I recently had my first service in over 10 years, I needed a new tank which was initially a problem as the current tanks don't fit my old tap. The service engineer (completely unasked) took it upon himself to phone HQ and have someone scour the warehouse for old tanks, have one delivered, and come and fit it, all the while leaving me phone messages 2 or 3 times a day to keep me updated on progress. All they charged for was the service. I thought that was exceptional.

I hear you. I only wear Wolford Luxe 66 opaque tights now, nothing else even comes close.

Boiling water tap. Absolute game changer. Worth every penny.

ColdWaterDipper · 25/02/2024 20:02

Horses. They are expensive but make my life so much better. Not easier (the opposite in fact) but so definitely better 😀

Mummamap · 25/02/2024 20:17

I treated myself to a thermomix and then bought a second one. They have made cooking and meal planning so much easier. They are used every single day without fail. I highly recommend.

A steam generator iron cuts my ironing time in half and it’s no longer a chore so worth the money

We got a set of John Lewis high thread count soft and silky duvet set and sheet as a wedding present (well we got £100 voucher and bought these in the sale and still had to put £80 toward it), it's amazing, i want another but the duvet set is £220 alone...

Save up and wait for the blue cross sale, or is that House of Fraser??

The first two sets of high count Egyptian cotton bedding I bought was in the sales, - Debenhams or similar - I spent £200 on two sets back in 2000, one set is still in use

The lot Im using now I got in the Blue cross sale, and yep House of Fraser ( we dont have JL ) and I signed up for a card that day to get an extra 20% off, I wont be buying any more bedding in my lifetime and will probably bequeath it to someone

Never ever skimp on bedding, save up and buy the best. Im not a snob, I dont have any savings, do a NMW job, but I cant abide sleeping on cheap bedding and find excuses not to stay at the inlaws and kids because they use cheap bedding

I was bought up piss poor, but we always had Clarkes shoes and cotton sheets ,always taught we spend a third of our lives on our feet and a third in bed, make sure they are comfortable and buy the best you can

Harvey's water softener.

toxic44 · 25/02/2024 21:12

Roller cutter with little spikes for making dorito-shaped oatcakes. Loads better than cutting the dough by hand.

krustykittens · 25/02/2024 21:47

100% linen bedding - so soft and warm in the winter and cool in the summer. TKMaxx often has sets on their website and you can save a fortune buying through them.

Only people with horses will get this, but HayHutches. They are soooo expensive and I was very nervous about buying them but I bought two large ones and I inly have to fill them up once a day to keep my herd well fed. No more wasted hay, no hay being blown into my neighbours field on windy days, no more trips out at night in the wind and the rain in winter to make sure they have enough feed to keep them going until morning. I really couldn't do without them!

StripeyDeckchair · 25/02/2024 22:11

Wool duvet

Fabulous. Get one.

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 25/02/2024 22:26

Robot vacuum/floor mop. Absolute bliss to wake up to clean floors every morning.

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 25/02/2024 22:28

Whatistherightanswer · 24/02/2024 19:05

I love these suggestions. Thank you keep them coming. We have a robo hoover but we also have a very hairy dog so it’s constantly full of hair and texts all the time saying it’s stuck.

Do you run it every night & empty it each morning?

MCamp10 · 25/02/2024 22:35

Kenwood Chef food mixer. Wouldn’t swap it for any other type of mixer or food processor. Very expensive at the time but I’ve had it for 45 years and had it serviced twice and still going strong.

Please link to the electric veg chopper, sounds thrilling and terrifying in one go!

Stairlift (being fitted on Tuesday).
I know this will make a massive difference to my life.

Harmonypus · 25/02/2024 22:42

Sorry, my phone is having a wobbly, I was just making a comment, not referring to fabio12's post 🙄

Harls1969 · 25/02/2024 22:44

Fusion brows (part microblading part powder)
Global knives
Denby crockery
Tempur mattress and pillows (although the pillows were free)

Gg93 · 25/02/2024 23:13

Things I love are

  • The hive heating system. Can turn on heating/water from the phone. Its not that expensive.
  • Great mattress/ pillows
  • Pull out shelves in the oven. Previous owner had them.

What I would get

  • mechanical heat recovery system thats in the attic. It monitors the humidity in the room and if too high when cooking etc a little fan kicks in. But it also heats the air coming in
  • Better windows/ pumped walls/ solar panels.
  • splashing out probs Professional make over or an interior designer or both.
Gummybear23 · 26/02/2024 07:28

Great ideas

MyDearOliveDuck · 26/02/2024 07:31

Be careful with that knife!

BlueFlowers5 · 26/02/2024 07:56

A Miele Cat and Dog vacuum cleaner I bought 11 years ago, an electric wood burner with lovely flame effect a KitchenAid blender and dishwasher is now vital!

MrsMrsD · 26/02/2024 07:57

To be clear, I don’t open my window when it’s hot and I keep the blackout curtains closed during the day. I was replying to that poster’s suggestion of opening the window to cool down.

this is getting a bit involved, buy yes of course you should keep curtains closed during the day when it's super hot. (I also have blackout curtains in key rooms) In hotter climes (lots hotter and more more often than Britain) they often have wooden blinds of course. Anyways, even with global warming I am wondering where these Brit frying pans are.
