I’m 50+ and only just really appreciating Fleetwood Mac!

The dynamics of the band, the turmoil, the bloody fantastic songwriting that was so personal but made them such an awesome group!

Growing up I didn’t really know about Fleetwood Mac until the mid 80’s, and I think the fact that they had different lead singers within the band, involved in their various hits, during the 80’s I suppose this confused me and when listening on the radio, thought I was listening to a different band when they had a hit!

Just wanted to show my appreciation to them in a AIBU thread, just because 😆

I watched a documentary a while ago about them and tbh was totally floored! I missed out on them during my youth and subsequent grunge rock 90’s+ moment! I was never really into them back then….

How bloody awesome were/are they!

Also incredibly sad about Christine McVie ❤️

It's Alright from Mirage is my favourite FM song. It's a bit Country and Western and very sing-along-able.

I got very into Rumours during a family holiday on a canal boat in the late 1980s! I listened to it on repeat on my portable cassette player.

Saw the heading, and thought exactly the same about The Eagles. Happened to hear one of the songs on the radio, found out it was The Eagles (I’m never very good at naming bands), and next minute I’m at an ‘Illegal Eagles’ concert with a friend. If you like The Eagles (or live music), they’re a superb band and do a great concert.

Dh, also a few years older than me, has introduced me to Supertramp also.

(ps. Similar age to you)

Universalsnail · 22/02/2024 18:30

I absolutely love Fleetwood Mac. Songbird in particular.

Although I don't listen to much if the very early stuff anymore since learning about Jeremy Spencer's involvement with The Children Of God cult which he left the band to go join 😔

But Stevie Nicks era I'm here for.

Chocladore · 22/02/2024 18:34

I’ve always loved Supertramp, had an older brother who was really into them and absolutely love all of their classics.

This one isn’t one you normally hear on the radio but I bloody love it! That voice! 😍

There’s quite a few of you who have mentioned The Eagles, so I might just have to set aside some time and listen to more of their stuff 😃

Eagles have the number one and number three bestselling albums of all time in the US.

There is a truly brilliant two-part documentary about them.

HemlockSoup · 22/02/2024 18:46

I've always found The Eagles to be an incredibly dull band.

Vicliz24 · 22/02/2024 18:47

I wish I was listening to The Eagles for the first time . It's a magical moment.

Absolute goosebumps watching this! SO much passion 👏

God that's spine tingling.

I know they fought a lot, but do you think they really loathed each other that much or was it part of the act? All that passionate glaring creates a lot of love chemistry.

Ooh I love a good documentary! Do you know what it’s called and where I can watch it?

Think this is where my love for Fleetwood Mac began, watching a bloody epic documentary about them and fully understanding what they were all about.

Silver Springs. What a song.

I saw them live just before Lindsey Buckingham left for the final time, and the chemistry between him and Stevie was still unreal.

RIP Christine. I feel lucky to have seen the original lineup.

OMG. I've just looked it up, and it's on Prime. I've already seen it twice, on TV 😆 That's me sorted for this weekend.

@WestwardHo1

I remember in one of the documentaries Stevie Nicks acknowledged how she and LB worked so well together and that the end product songs were down to him working on her songs which were uncut gems when she wrote them.

She said that at one point there was such hatred between them that he refused to work on her songs and it was so heartbreaking. So yes, I think at times there was real fury between them.

Another quote I remember was Stevie being so mad every time she had to sing Go Your Own Way because she resented the implication in it that she'd been sleeping around!

Thekormachameleon · 22/02/2024 19:15

Stevie nicks is my idol. I adore her
Fleetwood mac are rarely not played in my house

Mycatmyworld · 22/02/2024 19:29

The room is all on fire every time that you walk in the room Stevi nicks. Watched that so many time on you tube. They don’t make anything like this anymore.

Bemyclementine · 22/02/2024 20:20

Does anyone know what the documentaries are called?

OrlandointheWilderness · 22/02/2024 20:22

We play them every night to fall asleep too. I've never heard a bad song from them, every single one is gold.

I wish I could remember what it was called. I’m sure it was a BBC one, was absolutely brilliant! Seemed to last for hours!

Off topic slightly but another AWESOME documentary I watched, which was on the BBC or SKY was the George Harrison one! Don’t know what it was called but it was so well put together!

Wish I could actually remember stuff! 😆

I can’t remember which documentary I watched but the friendship between Christine and Stevie was so beautiful. With all the egos and fall out and affairs and drugs you’d expect them to be rivals, or some jealousy but they loved each other and remained allies throughout. Which is another reason I love them.
