I’m 50+ and only just really appreciating Fleetwood Mac!

The dynamics of the band, the turmoil, the bloody fantastic songwriting that was so personal but made them such an awesome group!

Growing up I didn’t really know about Fleetwood Mac until the mid 80’s, and I think the fact that they had different lead singers within the band, involved in their various hits, during the 80’s I suppose this confused me and when listening on the radio, thought I was listening to a different band when they had a hit!

Just wanted to show my appreciation to them in a AIBU thread, just because 😆

I watched a documentary a while ago about them and tbh was totally floored! I missed out on them during my youth and subsequent grunge rock 90’s+ moment! I was never really into them back then….

How bloody awesome were/are they!

Also incredibly sad about Christine McVie ❤️

I'm 50, always loved them as my Dad had Rumours LP so used to love listening to them. I went to see them about 8 years ago. I thought I'd be one of the youngest there, but was very much mistaken. A huge age range.

They were incredible live.

Went into an indie record shop at the weekend, Rumours was on the wall as "one to Buy"

Edge Of Seventeen... love it

Fantastic song!
We had rooms on fire as our wedding song 😀

Cuppachuchu · 22/02/2024 14:52

I love them too, saw them live in the mid 80s, amazing. Going to put on Rumours right now!

Cuppachuchu · 22/02/2024 14:52

Second Hand News is my favourite.

Mentioned upthread no?

Apologies to @FoulWrinkledWitch

Chocladore · 22/02/2024 15:36

I grew up with my DParents playing the Mamas & the Papas, The Stones, The Animals and Elvis, so didn’t really hear any Fleetwood Mac stuff until Little Lies came out.

I love Fleetwood Mac and Rumours is one of the best albums ever recorded! Have always loved them and was gutted to hear of Christine McVie's death. Stevie Nicks has such a fabulous voice. The song 'Sara' is so haunting and ethereal, it just takes me to a different place. I never tire of listening to it.

Was just gonna say this "Sara" is truly special.

StrawberryJellyBelly · 22/02/2024 16:08

Almost 66 and love Fleetwood Mac.

Am very proud to say that 20 year old DC loves FM as well, thanks to long car journeys with me in charge of the stereo 😁

I think Gypsy is my favourite song of theirs. Or Landslide.

It’s funny to see Fleetwood Mac being fashionable in 2024. In the 80s, when they were having some big hits, they were obviously popular but they were also the furthest possible thing from cool.

This is true. I was a teenager in the 70s and while I loved Man of the World and the original bluesy stuff they disappeared off my radar when they changed and were definitely uncool.
It's only in the last couple of years I've listened to them and become a fan.

Funkyslippers · 22/02/2024 16:29

I'm going to give Rumours a listen in the car tomorrow as I probably know a lot more of the songs than I think. Everywhere and Little Lies are played all the time on my local radio so I can happily live without them......

Oooh I'm so glad you've discovered them! Aren't they amazing!? Tusk has to be one of my all time favourite albums, I think I actually love it even more than I love Rumours, although it's a close thing. The self titled (first one with Buckingham Nicks) is amazing as well. Thanks for starting the thread, I have been in a bit of a musical rut and I think I'll listen to them again.

Sorry, I actually meant the one which is just called Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac had several iterations before the seminal one of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Fleetwood Mac (1975) is the first album with those five.

A TikTok video. I'll try to link to a YouTube version.

He posted this one day, when his car had broken down and he carried on to work on his skateboard. While listening to Dreams and swigging juice. Classic! Went totally viral. Even Mic Fleetwood got on it.

Watch this version of The Chain, live, sung when they were breaking up. The way they stare at each other... Stevie Nicks howls like a wild animal and Buckingham looks like he might explode. I've never heard a better version of it.

This.
