TO THINK THERE'S A LOCH NESS MONSTER

I really believe there's something undiscovered in the 23 mile pitch black Loch, Too many people have seen SOMETHING. Over 1000 sightings. Okay dome could be the mind, tricks of the light, logs, seals etc but surely not all. No it can't be a plesiosaur as the loch is only 10,000 years old and they died out millions of years ago. Sonar and DNA proved there isn't one but doesn't it connect to the sea? So it could come and go and not be in there permanently. Adrian Shine who has camped there 40 years and Jeremy Wade both think it's a huge Greenland shark. Giant eel 20ft long? The most dna found was from eels.

I didnt see anything when I was there but my god the feeling.. I believe

@ItsallIeverwanted I just find the geology etc really fascinating. I used to live in the south of Scotland and thought the Nessie stuff just a bunch of touristy nonsense, bit of fun for kids. But I've lived in Highland now for about 15 years and before that on another fjord type body of water, which is also on the Great Glen fault. These really are fjords, proper deep water, the kind that can take cruise ships (if they could get there). So when people mention the relatively tiny boats that do spend time on the loch as evidence against anything, it's clear that they aren't really appreciating the depth. The world's ocean beds are felt to be less explored than space (and yes, ok, I know that really we mean deep water faults like the Mariana Trench) ...so I like to feel that there's a little room for doubt here!

I do feel a little nervous on a boat in Loch Ness -the depth, the cold mainly- when you are out in the middle in a little tourist boat the magnitude of it is a bit overwhelming.

I've been and loved it. Well worth a visit!

Found this online. Is there a cover up then?

I was in the US Air Force in England circa 1981. The BBC used to broadcast the news at 9pm. They would always run a teaser just before 9 at the end of whatever program that was on before that. We lived in a dorm on base and there'd always be TV's on while we did whatever we were doing. One night, there were 4 or 5 people in my room and the TV was on. It was also on in our dayroom, which was a communal relaxing room on the floor. ANYWAY,,,,,the teaser for the news came on. It totally blew us away. There in front of us on the TV was footage,,,,not video,,but film,,,taken from inside an RAF helicopter over a shallow area of Loch Ness. The guys in the copter were yelling and the camera was pointing below them. You could see the wash from the propeller on the water and in the middle of it was a creature. It looked like a small dinosaur,,,it had four flippers, a long neck and a somewhat short tail. It was thrashing about in a panic under the helicopter. The footage was real. They didn't have CGI back then, the inside of the copter was real,,,the men were yelling, the noise was loud,,,and the scene on the water was real. The announcer was saying something to the effect that the RAF had found Nessie and details would follow at 9. Of course we all freaked out. We watched at 9 and absolutely nothing was said. We were completely perplexed. Many people saw the clip,,,I know of at least two of my superiors who contacted the BBC and the RAF and no one seemed to know anything. We'd all seen it. I met locals who saw it as well. There was no internet then,,,no phones to text with,,,,so word couldn't get around like we can do today. I talked to people about it for weeks and many people saw it. The story faded away and one can only wonder what the hell happened. Over the years I have talked to people who remember it. But for me,,,,the creature,,whatever it is, exists.

I totally believe there’s SOMETHING there, mostly because I want to!

I was obsessed with the 90s film when I was a kid too.

thebillcollector · 21/02/2024 22:42

At it's deepest, it's twice the average depth of the North Sea

wow! @Psychonabike - because of the huge fault line do you think there's a possibility there could be underground waterways and giant aquifers that connect to the North Sea?

Londonrach1 · 21/02/2024 22:44

If you visit loch Ness you realize how big it is... something could hid!

BreakingAndBroke · 21/02/2024 22:49

I saw a programme once where they said they thought it was an eel. I can't remember the exact thing now, but it was something along the lines of eels keep growing until they mate, so if an eel didn't mate then it could keep growing and growing and account for the sightings and account for the fact that only eel DNA was found.

OrlandointheWilderness · 21/02/2024 22:53

Loch Ness is over 800feet deep in places (twice the average depth of the North Sea) and the entire world population could fit inside it ten times over. Wouldn't surprise me tbh.

Sunnydaysaregone · 21/02/2024 23:26

I read this morning that Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash and kids have been touring the area in a motorhome in recent days. So if Nessie doesn’t appear on their social media by the end of the week we can confirm there is no monster.

(and if there is it’ll be wearing a hat and scarf colour co ordinated with the Solomon family) 🤣

Friedchickenrocks · 21/02/2024 18:31

Anyone here ever been and will admit to seeing something?

@Friedchickenrocks yes, I've been & I saw something. A beautiful loch.

theres really no need to SHOUT in your heading, its rude & attention seeking unless theres an emergency you need help with & I'm afraid ruminating about the much ness monster doesn't fit that brief

It would have been seen if it existed.

Where do you imagine dead monsters go?

Any Scot will confirm that Nessie exists and will even surface from time to time to see if she has an audience.

Blahdeblah12345 · 22/02/2024 01:21

Famed occultist Aleister Crowley did a ritual there at a house he used to own which overlooks the lake (Boleskin house). He never completed the ritual and never got rid of the demons he had summoned in the process. Clearly he opened up a portal which allows nessie to pass through. That's why there is no physical evidence, because it's an inter dimensional being. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it 😆

The house is reputedly haunted too and was owned by jimmy page of led Zeppelin fame after Crowley, because of the occult connection.

@Friedchickenrocks

I remember seeing something on the news though I think it was earlier, like early to mid 70s, showing footage of something moving through the water, leaving a huge wake behind. It was army footage. They said that they'd get back with more details the next night, and then.... nothing!

Wow I did not realise this. In that case it is quite plausible. I believe!

WhingeInTheWillows · 22/02/2024 06:29

I really hope there isn’t because someone will catch it or kill it to study it. We wouldn’t be able to just leave it be would we? A really shit end for Nessie.

Untilitisnt · 22/02/2024 06:31

Dear god, how long does half-term go on for these days?

CampsieGlamper · 22/02/2024 07:08

Never mind Nessie and loch Ness, what about Morag the Loch Morar monster?

Chocladore · 22/02/2024 07:18

Windy23 · 21/02/2024 18:44

I've been many times, never seen anything. Would like to believe but I'm dubious.

I saw an interesting TV programme a couple of weeks ago about a boat that crashed on Loch Ness while trying to break a speed record or something. Similar to Donald Campbell's crash on Coniston Water. They came to the conclusion that wake from another boat caused it. Most people hadn't believed that was possible because there were no other boats in the vicinity. Turns out the unusual topography of Loch Ness (long, narrow, deep, steep sides) allows wake from boats to travel for miles without dissipating. They said that was probably the explanation for a lot of Nessie sightings as the wake looks like humps.

I’ve heard about the wake theory too! Makes sense.

Sorry about that. Didn't realise. Am new to forums.

Yes, Nessie exists. Can't believe why people are still debating this 🙄
She's mates with Morag from Loch Morar (IIRC they are actually related?)

I hope there is, and I hope we never find out for sure! Life needs a little mystery here and there.

Yes. See also, dragons in the Welsh mountains and little four legged haggis’s in Scotland. Round here we have treacle mines. I love all these stories, they make the world so much more interesting.
