TO THINK THERE'S A LOCH NESS MONSTER

I really believe there's something undiscovered in the 23 mile pitch black Loch, Too many people have seen SOMETHING. Over 1000 sightings. Okay dome could be the mind, tricks of the light, logs, seals etc but surely not all. No it can't be a plesiosaur as the loch is only 10,000 years old and they died out millions of years ago. Sonar and DNA proved there isn't one but doesn't it connect to the sea? So it could come and go and not be in there permanently. Adrian Shine who has camped there 40 years and Jeremy Wade both think it's a huge Greenland shark. Giant eel 20ft long? The most dna found was from eels.

I'm Scottish. Sorry it's a hoax.

Sorry, being Scottish doesn't make you an authority on the subject.

I've been many times, never seen anything. Would like to believe but I'm dubious.

I saw an interesting TV programme a couple of weeks ago about a boat that crashed on Loch Ness while trying to break a speed record or something. Similar to Donald Campbell's crash on Coniston Water. They came to the conclusion that wake from another boat caused it. Most people hadn't believed that was possible because there were no other boats in the vicinity. Turns out the unusual topography of Loch Ness (long, narrow, deep, steep sides) allows wake from boats to travel for miles without dissipating. They said that was probably the explanation for a lot of Nessie sightings as the wake looks like humps.

I was going to come on and refer to this programme too. I think it mentioned that the shape of the loch can create a bumpy profiled wake that looks as if something is swimming the wrong way against the rest of the wake and that looks very like the photos purporting to be Nessie.

In the 1880's a ship sank and they sent a diver down. He came up as white as a sheet and never entered water again. He said he'd seen an enormous creature, like a frog, with big eyes, on a ledge near the boat. He said it was the scariest thing he'd ever seen. Experts have said maybe it was a giant salamander. Some experts think Nessie is a salamander.

Edited

lol yes, and then this: As to size, the diver said the creature was "as big as a goat, or a good wedder [Scots dialect word for a castrated male sheep]."

Ooh, so scary!

The Inverness tourist board certainly think there is a monster in the loch. Nessie tat is big business.

I've been told that the Loch Ness Project which studies all aspects of the loch and is headed by Adrian Shine, tells visitors that there is no Nessie.

I've sat for hours on the banks of that loch and barely even caught a fish, never mind seen the monster. Great for tourists but it's a heap of rubbish 😂

ElaineMBenes · 21/02/2024 19:10

Sorry, yes the other guy that lives in an old van and makes Nessie models to pay for his food.

Steve Feltham. Quite a character

He needed a stiff whisky when he came up but according to his mates, hadn't been drinking before as divers don't. He never dived again. Another diver. much later said a long big creature, dark, swam past him and he could have touched it.

Something in there folks,

We went for the day on our honeymoon. I've got a great photo of DH pointing excitedly over the loch, but unfortunately Nessie was just out of shot.

I've met him a few times and my DS has bought some of his models of Nessie

From an aerial view of the topography, Scotland is pretty much cut in half by Lock Ness and Loch Lochy. The land lies very low at that point.

I've always wondered if there's a deep underground water system running underneath this transect of Scotland that has an outlet to the North Sea, deep on the ocean bed, way, way beyond Moray Firth and Tarbat Ness lighthouse, and that large deep sea creatures may come and go occasionally via this underground water system when seeking refuge.

The land certainly looks like it's been carved out by some big geological event.

Any geologists out there that can shed any light?

I’m afraid I can’t expand on this but I found this really interesting, would be a great theory! I don’t know much of the area but I feel compelled to give it a google now.

I love the idea of there being a Loch Ness Monster. I used to enjoy watching Family Ness when I was little. Nessie does remind me of being small, when the world is still a bit magical and even adults were out looking for a “monster.”

wildthingsinthenight · 21/02/2024 19:17

I'm with you OP! I believe..

Edinvillian · 21/02/2024 19:19

Does this count? My wee boy caught this in there 😂

TO THINK THERE'S A LOCH NESS MONSTER
Createausername1970 · 21/02/2024 19:20

I have been there and it's stunning.

I believe there is a route out to sea from the loch via a river? Do I remember that correctly? So I suppose, if that is correct, something could have swam in, hung around and swam back out.

They say the River Ness is not that deep though and he/she would have been seen.

haggeese?

One haggis is just a haggis, if you add extra it's a supper. So a pride of lions, a murder of crows, a supper of haggis

Ilovemyshed · 21/02/2024 19:30

Course its real, a deep deep piece of water.

heads off to rewatch the film Loch Ness...

Friedchickenrocks · 21/02/2024 19:31

I remember the late renowned naturalist Sir Peter Scott was convinced there was a family of plesiosaurs there but this seems impossible. They'd have to surface for air very often so would be seen more and died out millions of years ago and the Loch was only formed 10,000 years ago and was underneath 3 miles of solid ice.

GreyBlackLove · 21/02/2024 19:39

I've been a few times and never spotted a thing sadly.

I'm torn between thinking it's likely sightings of older, massive European sturgeon and a conspiracy that its a government "beard" to allow storage and testing of early submarine prototypes

WandaWonder · 21/02/2024 19:42

Where did it come from? How long has it been alive? What does it eat? Does it breed? How much does thr tourist board make? (Good luck to them! Doesn't take much for people to believe anything)
