TO THINK THERE'S A LOCH NESS MONSTER

I really believe there's something undiscovered in the 23 mile pitch black Loch, Too many people have seen SOMETHING. Over 1000 sightings. Okay dome could be the mind, tricks of the light, logs, seals etc but surely not all. No it can't be a plesiosaur as the loch is only 10,000 years old and they died out millions of years ago. Sonar and DNA proved there isn't one but doesn't it connect to the sea? So it could come and go and not be in there permanently. Adrian Shine who has camped there 40 years and Jeremy Wade both think it's a huge Greenland shark. Giant eel 20ft long? The most dna found was from eels.

Ever since watching the Scooby Doo
episode with the kids (that was my favourite😂) wanted to go to Urquart? castle and see the monster. On my list.

TheDogdidGood · 21/02/2024 19:47

I believe there’s something in there. I remember one of the documentaries years ago and the interviews with people who saw it. One old man who won’t go out in the Loch after his little boat was struck by Nessie, another man who got a clear view “Why would I make it up? I sell dog food FFS! I’ve got nothing to gain…” They were very compelling.

Didn’t an entire bus load of tourists see it?

I've been a few times and never spotted a thing sadly.

I'm torn between thinking it's likely sightings of older, massive European sturgeon and a conspiracy that its a government "beard" to allow storage and testing of early submarine prototypes

That’s like Conspiracy Theory X Conspiracy Theory.
Love it! 🤣

Yes but were just dismissed as having drunk too much of the Scots whisky.....lol.

There are almost certainly creatures /organisms there that we have never observed. Many of them. Just none of them the dinosaur style stuff of Nessie fun.

willsandnoodle · 21/02/2024 19:53

My brother was interviewed on many radio stations, even a Canadian one due to his Nessie spotting a few months ago. He also has a post on the Nessie spotting forum. I fully believe he saw something and I do believe there is something in the water!

Psychonabike · 21/02/2024 20:38

Loch Ness is certainly a somewhat mysterious and unusual inland lake.

At it's deepest, it's twice the average depth of the North Sea, and it holds more water than all the lakes of England and Wales. It is super cold as a result, yet too deep to freeze over.

It sits in the Great Glen fault line, which you can observe on a map to run through mainland Scotland, splitting the northwest highlands from the central highlands and everything else to the south. The fault line extends all the way to Shetland.

It's no wonder that people still feel that there's something about Loch Ness.

I cycled around it one day, it's really hard not to be drawn to just watching what's going on in the water!

doodlejump1980 · 21/02/2024 20:47

I drive the length of it most days. I believe that there’s something there, but if only the tourists could pull into one of the MANY lay-bys on the a82 to have a proper look - instead of driving SO slowly and not always on the correct side of the road. Tourist season is coming up, expect the first sighting of the year to be reported soon!

HemlockSoup · 21/02/2024 20:54

The caps lock thread title made me think you'd seen something today and were breathlessly running to Mumsnet with some Nessie news! Grin

Username917778 · 21/02/2024 21:10

I live here, and it is the ONLY loch my dog won't swim in, which tells me all I need to know...

Friedchickenrocks · 21/02/2024 18:31

Anyone here ever been and will admit to seeing something?

I’ve driven past Loch Ness more times than I’ve had hot dinners. There’s nothing there. Just a very clever marketing ploy. Sorry 🙃

TheBeesBollox · 21/02/2024 18:42

I think the plural is just haggis.
Either way, lovely to see them back in the hills. Part of the rewilding program in the Highlands.

On a quiet night you can hear them skirling in the distance...

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 21/02/2024 21:31

I believe.

Nothing to back my belief up, obvs - I just do.

Would love to go one day.

Nah.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 21/02/2024 21:37

I urge you to watch an episode of Wellington Paranoral called Taniwha. It explains the whole thing.

The plural is haggi @TheBeesBollox (well that’s what my dad used to call them during hunting season). DH is MR and says he often hears them especially near Bidean nam Bian, you have be accustomed to the sound though as the skirling is easily mistaken for the Will-o’-the-Wisps whispering.

ItsallIeverwanted · 21/02/2024 21:40

@Psychonabike that's such an interesting post, how can it be so deep?! I'm definitely thinking there could be many things down there now...

Tatonka · 21/02/2024 21:41

I think there used to be, but it dies a long time ago

rainbowbee · 21/02/2024 21:42

My father told me that the correct collective noun for haggi is a 'burn.'
Wouldn't it be something if Nessie was real!

ivegotthisyeah · 21/02/2024 21:51

Just literally driven past Loch Ness today! Doing the NC500. Kept my eye out but can confirm I didn't see a thing!

Mysterian · 21/02/2024 21:58

No.

There's very few fish in Loch Ness because it's so deep and dark. A big thing would have to spend all it's time in the top 3 or 4 metres, and still nobody has every taken a decent photo of it?

Also your title was all in CAPS and we know what type of people do that.

SpectacledBear · 21/02/2024 22:00

I learnt recently that the mountainous area in Scotland was originally part of the Appalachian Mountains in US and the fjordy mountain area of Norway! They drifted and split over millions of years. Some lochs are characteristically fjords.

I want to believe!

PastorCarrBonarra · 21/02/2024 22:07

Some interesting posts about the geography of it. Good thread!

Was the entire busload of tourists plastered on Scotch??! 😀

PicaK · 21/02/2024 22:15

I can believe in the Loch Ness Monster with far more conviction than Jesus/God etc
