My husband thinks breastfeeding women should be more classy

He thinks if you are feeding, do not do it in the centre of a food court , try to go to the edges. Choose your seat around the fringe. Preferably near a potted plant. Choose to be discreet. Do not make a spectacle of yourself ( in Parliament),
In a restaurant, don't sit in the middle.
Women should show more discretion and decorum.

I absolutely agree, natural it is but it gives me the absolute heave and my elderly mum gets embarrassed. It’s such a special part of bonding it does seem weird to me woman aren’t more discreet. I appreciate me and DM and your DH are in the minority though.

Wtf do you mean by ‘special bonding experience’?? She’s feeding her baby, not shagging it. They kind of do this think where they die if they don’t eat. Do you also heave at a man having a special bonding experience (eating) his steak and chips at a restaurant?

mitogoshi · 21/02/2024 12:37

Hmm. Last time I ate in a food court, I sat where there was space, when I book a restaurant, they seat me and as for mp's, I think it's amazing that they are paving the way for the rest of women.

He would have really loved being near me when mine were tiny - I fed them whenever and wherever they needed feeding

GreyhpundGirl · 21/02/2024 12:37

What a knob. I got my boobs out everywhere- the bus, Church, the park, the pub.... No one cared whatsoever and actually got really some lovely comments about breastfeeding in public, especially from old men. Your husband can eff off with his ridiculous outdated comments. Breastfeeding is hard enough without judgement from people like him.

Awaywiththeferries123 · 21/02/2024 12:37

Your husband can go fuck himself. If my baby is hungry I’ll feed them.

Did you intentionally marry such a small-minded misogynist?

TakeMe2Insanity · 21/02/2024 12:37

Deafening · 21/02/2024 12:24

I think your husband should keeps his thoughts to himself.

Perfect 👏

mbosnz · 21/02/2024 12:38

Him first.

marshmallowburn · 21/02/2024 12:38

I have been haranguing him for about an hour asking exactly how close to the edge of the food court they should be. It has not gone well!
I'm surprised as I breastfed our baby everywhere and didn't have one of those things that make a circle around you. Just chucked him on and all good. DH never said a word. I am genuinely shocked.

MPs don’t get proper maternity cover unless senior and the hours are unpredictable so if they want to represent their constituents they need to bring their baby and babies need to be fed!

tootyflooty · 21/02/2024 12:39

if your DH can't help but perv on breast feeding women, maybe he should sit behind a pot plant. Never heard such nonsense, well sadly yes I have, sorry you are married to a nob !!

ThreeTescoBags · 21/02/2024 12:40

Is the size of the pot plant dependent on the size of your boobs? This may be limiting...

WaltzingWaters · 21/02/2024 12:40

I think your husband can stand himself behind a potted plant and mind his own bloody business whilst feeding mums get on and do the most natural thing in the world.

IHateLegDay · 21/02/2024 12:40

What a prick.
If he'd said anything about feeding my babies in public, I'd have wapped them both out and used them as squirt guns.

marshmallowburn · 21/02/2024 12:41

Quite depressed about it really

OdinsHorse · 21/02/2024 12:42

Why do you think we need to know what your dh thinks?

NoCloudsAllowed · 21/02/2024 12:42

I honestly think men get freaked out by breastfeeding as it happens entirely without reference to them and they can't handle it. A woman using her body and breasts for something non-sexual affronts everything they think they know about the world.

It's fuck all to do with you, OP's husband. I don't like to see women wearing high heels because I think it causes long-term back problems, but I don't go around tutting at them or thinking they should be shuffled out of sight. I don't like to see portly men in sports kits or men wearing shorts in winter or men with those horrible low necklines that tease a bit of chest hair or men in loafers with barely any socks because I think they look ridiculous, but I also recognise that they don't need to give a fuck what I think.

Of all the things to find offensive in the House of Commons, breastfeeding isn't top of my list.

Surely the centre of the food court is the area with the least traffic (assuming food outlets are around the outer edge)? Fewer people would traverse to the middle.

Yes, that's what I took from this.

thewreckofthehesperus · 21/02/2024 12:43

Women shouldn't have to temper their every action worrying about the male gaze. If a child is hungry it should be fed and how that is achieved is up to the comfort level of the mother/caregiver.

Breasts are a body part, one used to feed children and have been long before they were sexualised. I would ask him why he feels his comfort level trumps a hungry babies need to eat?

fakeprofile · 21/02/2024 12:43

so you fed your own baby everywhere, but had no idea until now that your husband feels this way about breastfeeding mothers? Such a bizarre post for multiple reasons

FloofCloud · 21/02/2024 12:43

Personally I hated breastfeeding, but I always looked classy doing it!!

Your DH should be seen (behind a cock shaped cactus) and not heard

Have you ever tried to breastfeed a toddler lmao. Dd tries to swap boobs constantly or look around so it's hard to keep covered up. I find yours such a strange attitude to have.

marshmallowburn · 21/02/2024 12:45

He would never perve, he really isn't like that. But he thought the MP in Parliament was wrong ( and I said she was needed for the vote) and then he started on the women should be have more decorum, and it went downhill from there.
TBF I had said that a lot of the MAFS ( AUS) ladies could do with a bit more coverage on their tops. Thats what started it,
I was yelling that having your boobs out to be sexy is very different from feeding your child but it all disintegrated into a yelling match fro there.
Sad, as we are actually kiddy free as school camp.
Sigh
Life is a bit fecked really.

Is this the tip of the husband-turning-into-a-middle-aged-dickwad-iceberg, OP?

MumOfOneAwesomeHuman · 21/02/2024 12:48

Your husband sounds horrendous and exactly the sort of misogynistic idiot that makes women feel so uncomfortable doing the most natural nurturing thing on earth. Please don't have children with him!

Why are there so many weird breastfeeding threads at the moment

Right. I'm thinking kink. Especially after the one last night that went on for pages.

Of course people happily oblige 🙄
