Not aibu just intrigued. This thread was done on here ages ago and it was so fun. I have two:

Pasta is gross, I'll eat it but its not delicious as people make it out to be its cold slimy dough.

I'm sure she's nice but Beyonce is overrated.

Going to visit family isn't a holiday.
Even if they live in a holiday destination.

Why?

When I visit my family I sit on my arse all day watching TV.

If I had to perform caring responsibilities, it would be different, but it's definitely a holiday for me.

Hot drinks. Why does anyone want to drink anything with cow juice in it or is full of caffeine, makes your breath stink and discolours your teeth?

Water for me, thank you. Flavoured, still, sparkling, chilled or straight from a bottle.

OMG. They're hot so they make you feel warm inside and they're good for socialising. Plus they taste nice.
My DM doesn't drink any hot drinks and it's quite anti-social.

Instant coffee is perfectly nice, and sometimes I prefer it to the real thing.

Where were you at the hosting thread where I was being burnt at the stake for not wanting to buy a coffee machine for potential guests who might potentially visit irregularly and be coffee drinkers.

The Welsh are no better at singing on average than anyone else.

I don't think we Welsh claim to have a genetic ability to sing well, at least not seriously. We just have a lot of choirs.

Yes, it’s not necessarily genetic but simply taken more seriously. When I was at primary (many years ago now I admit), even a simple school performance was taken very seriously. We’d dedicate most afternoons for weeks practising leading up to the event, taken out of school to church halls for the acoustics. There were no niceties about it, if you couldn’t meet the standards you were told to mime along. And you had to be especially good for competitive choir/Eisteddfod - my group was one of the smallest competing as so few made the cut. I watch my son’s school performances half happy about how inclusive it is, half grimacing knowing how my old music teacher would be throwing the biggest wobbly if we performed like that 🤣.

@MasterBeth if you ever have a chance to watch an Eisteddfod (I think iplayer may show it, or look on S4C) you will see how very seriously Welsh children are raised with music/singing. And how angry the choir masters look whilst directing them…

I love Wetherspoons. Good choice on menu. Cheap. Quick service.

I really hate Tim Martin, but I was in Liverpool over Christmas and it was the only place we could go that didn't have loud music.

Gigs are soooo boring.

Standing in a smelly crowd for ages, straining my neck while the support act drones on. Drinks served in plastic cups and people knocking into you when all you want to do is sit down. Just awful.

YES, with a few very limited exceptions this is true

Gdstsch · 22/02/2024 19:01

You shouldn’t be allowed to own a dog without a license which should be reviewed annually.

As a dog owner, I agree with this, but it would never be enforced. And the only people who would get the license would be responsible owners so the issues would still be there, but there would be a lot more dogs needing homes.

Edited

Fair enough. I guess it’s like dog fowling. Technically punishable via a fine but in reality it’s infeasible to enforce

School uniform is stupid and restrictive and no it doesn’t make everyone equal.

I will die on this hill.

We got an email a couple of weeks back from my kids’ school saying they should come in wearing “something they felt good in” for one day because it was Mental Health Week and they’d been talking about how self-expression and feeling comfortable were really important for mental health.

Can’t be that important if you can only do it for one day a year though, can it?

Have a thought for those of us who lived in fear of the occasional wear your own clothes day.

ZebraDanios · 22/02/2024 19:21

I’m sorry you had a bad experience @Gwenhwyfar. My point was that schools are sending very mixed messages if they’re claiming non-uniform is good for mental health but only allowing it to happen for one day a year.

Also though - if children are being picked on for the clothes they wear on non-uniform days, then schools and parents should be teaching children that we don’t judge or treat people badly because of what they’re wearing, rather than perpetuating the ideology that the only way to avoid being picked on is to look the same as everyone else.

White chocolate is awful
Adults who obsess about Disneyland are weird
Pandora is over priced tat
Coldplay are dreary
We should stop rewarding children with sugar/food in general and making them associate sugar happiness

LadyEloise1 · 22/02/2024 19:52

But white chocolate is awful @80skid - that's not an unpopular opinion.
Most people agree it's awful. Smile

I think this must be an adult/child thing. Most adults I know hate white chocolate but I asked my Year 10 class just this week and they all love it. I also love white chocolate but I don’t like wine, coffee or avocados so I must have a child’s palate according to @GreenAppleCrumble

Getting your hair done/getting your nails done/going to buy a new dress for a special occasion/meeting a friend for coffee/going to an exercise class are not errands or jobs you’ve had to do which mean you’ve had a ‘really busy day’ !!! They are optional things and I consider pretty much all of them treats that are nice things to pass your time doing! As opposed to collecting children from school, doing tax returns, collecting or sending post, doing the food shop, picking up prescriptions - these are boring chores!

Getting my hair done is a boring chore. I hate sitting there with wet hair and itching. Exercise class is also not great. These are both things many people do for the result rather than the experience.
Of course meeting a friend should be fun.

whatishappening1 · 22/02/2024 20:40

People who stand/sit throughout a whole gig filming most of it on their phone are so irritating. Just trying to see it as it happens, in the moment and you’ve got someone’s phone flapping in the air in your face

Psychotrist · 22/02/2024 20:55

I don't get what's the big deal about Harry styles. I agree thst barbie wasn't that great. I didn't think Oppenheimer was fantastic either but it was definitely good and it's probably Oscar material. And cillian Murphy is a surprisingly good actor but I don't think that's an unpopular opinion.

Pot noodles are delicious!!! And pineapple on pizza (or anything else) rocks.

White chocolate is only nice if its crunchy. Lidl do a really nice strawberry white chocolate. Otherwise it's horrible.

I didn't adore Oppenheimer but it was a good solid film. It was certainly better than Barbie.

If the cap fits…

Oh I’m not denying it! (It’s not just food either - I really like those body sprays that smell like sweets and are aimed entirely at teenagers.) But I do like olives, and seafood - and I LOVE blue cheese, which I guess is a reasonably adult taste.

My brother trained himself to like olives - apparently if you taste something 23 times you’ll start to like it. I’m pretty sure I’ve tasted wine more times than that though…
