Not aibu just intrigued. This thread was done on here ages ago and it was so fun. I have two:

Pasta is gross, I'll eat it but its not delicious as people make it out to be its cold slimy dough.

I'm sure she's nice but Beyonce is overrated.

I thought you couldn't name change on a thread any more.

I like it when people shorten my name even though I never use the shortened form myself

Me too!

A friend once apologised to me when they realised I never used the short form myself. I had to try to explain that I really liked it when my friends did it!

Does the third one count if you’re giving birth?

Asking for a friend

But don't midwives give enemas anymore, so this is less likely to happen? Surely it's a contamination problem?

Waitingfordoggo · 21/02/2024 15:12

Midwives don’t routinely give enemas but I believe it’s very common for women to have a poo while giving birth. Low risk of contamination I’d say. The midwives swiftly and discreetly clean it up. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The first law of thermodynamics only applies to closed systems. Which doesn't describe the body. You seem to not understand thermodynamics.

Also you absolutely don't understand what lighthearted means.

Since your understanding is clearly sooo much greater than mine, please explain how a human body creates matter out of nothing? Fat and muscle is chemical energy, where does this energy come from please?

My unpopular opinion is... I think everyone is just far too promiscuous these days. It seems every other person on MN has a "FWB" or other casual and non-exclusive relationship.
I don't like that promiscuity seems to be widely encouraged on this forum.

If it makes you feel better, there's a ton of incels on here these days.

slore · 20/02/2024 22:54

Overweight women tend to be extremely jealous and resentful of "thin" aka healthy weight women.

Being overweight is a moral failure: in a time of environmental and economic crisis, it shows that you are eating more than your fair share of the world's resources, and putting a needless drain on the NHS. It is gluttony on display for all to see.

There is only one way to get fat, and that is eating too many calories. Everything else is nonsense and violates the first law of thermodynamics.

Edited

Everything you've said is also true of living past seventy

(which I am all in favour of)

Same I have friend who used to have a really promiscuous lifestyle and on the surface was all pro liberation, said she loved sex and all that but she actually became quite unwell after a few years of it, then settled down. I don't think it's as good for us as we're led to believe just being involved in sex and nothing more to someone.

I guess because your mid-thread name change worked and that's not supposed to be possible any more.

Afternoon tea is a load of bollox, whoever thought “I know what I’ll do to have good time, go and eat a tiny quiche” it’s so boring and I’d rather be in the pub.

This with bells on!! I'm perfectly capable of "making" a miniscule cucumber sandwich and cup of tea at home, why should I go and pay £25 for the privilege (and still come out starving)?!

You’ve been to some really rubbish afternoon teas then. They usually include a lot more than that.

The afternoon tea at our local is gorgeous. You get loads of good quality food. I went with some friends at Christmas. We did have tea and coffee and then we all went in the pub area for some alcohol. It was a lovely day.

There wasn't a cucumber in sight.

We actually took food home with us because there was too much.

Mushroo · 22/02/2024 12:29

@Angelof29th yes! I also don’t like afternoon tea! Far too much focus on sweet things and not enough sandwiches. I am partial to a ‘gentleman’s’ one you get sometimes with things like sausage rolls.

The traditional one makes me feel sick, and you end up not being hungry for a proper evening meal, but not quite full enough to have nothing.

Inevitably you also have a few mini cakes to take home as who can eat 2 scones plus jam and cream, then about 4 mini cakes as well.

This means so you end up consuming a million calories over the course of a couple of days.

Costs a fortune and I’d rather have a nice steak dinner.

OhNoWhatIf · 22/02/2024 12:53

@Mushroo The one we went to was mostly savoury as we told them that's what we prefferred. It is our local though and we know the owner very well.

Unpopular Opinion, vintage movie stars edition:

I've thought of one which may be controversial: Audrey Hepburn was very overrated. She seemed like a truly lovely person and she was very pretty, but she was a poor actress IMO.
Elizabeth Taylor was not the most beautiful woman in the world at any point in time. She had lovely eyes but I don't know why she was considered this amazing beauty and I don't understand the obsession with her and her eight marriages. Ludicrous.
Ginger was the more talented out of Astaire and Rogers. He could dance better, but she was also an excellent dancer (just not in his league) and also could sing and act better than he could.
Marilyn Monroe was overrated as a beauty, but underrated as a brain and a talent. Her singing voice was extraordinary and she was clearly very bright.

KimberleyClark · 22/02/2024 15:58

LovelyTheresa · 22/02/2024 16:02

And contemporary movie stars/Hollywood edition:

Sydney Sweeney is everywhere and annoyingly so. She is not that talented and not all that attractive, so I don't know why she seems to be the new it girl.
Saltburn was absolutely dire, just a bland, lazy rehash of Brideshead Revisited and The Talented Mr Ripley, without any of the glamour, originality and charm of either. Barry Keoghan was in no way believable as a twenty year old, either. He looks like a 43 year old builder.
Barbie was overrated and all the 'controversy' about Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie not being nominated for Oscars was absurd. Margot's performance was in no way Oscar worthy and the film should not have been nominated for Best Picture. It looked good and it made a lot of money for the studio, but it was banal and forgettable.
Timothee Chalamet has to be one of the most overrated stars out there. He seems to be unshakeable as the 'new Leo' and 'saviour of Hollywood' but I find him very dull to watch and I also don't understand why people think he is attractive. He is far too thin and looks about fifteen. I watched 'Double Indemnity' the other day and was just blown away by how sexy Fred MacMurray was in it: I tried to imagine Timothee Chalamet seducing and being seduced by Barbara Stanwyck and just burst out laughing at the very idea.
