Anyone else get really cheesed off when they are reading a thread and it just disappears for no apparent reason or for “investigation behind the scenes”. As far as I know there is no investigation because these threads never reappear, I lose count of the number of times I am half way through a reply or just reading a thread and it vanishes.

I know people get annoyed when others don’t read the full thread, but it doesn’t really encourage this!!! I was really interested in the lady and her daughter with the gusto boxes this morning- it struck quite close to home for me as a childless daughter in a similar boat…

OP posts:

Oooh the comment I quoted has disappeared in a puff of smoke.

This thread will probably be deleted too as it's a TAAT

how is it ? to me its more of a generalisation of various threads ?

soupfiend · 19/02/2024 20:12

Yes, its always just as Ive typed a long detailed post with professional advice and then I go to post it and the threads been deleted. Gah!!!!

LordSnot · 19/02/2024 20:32

It's very frustrating. Nearly every forum has a policy not to delete threads unless they're spam, because admins know how irritating it is for users.

So you think every begging thread, grief vampire thread, perv thread should stay up?

Throwingpots · 19/02/2024 20:36

Annoys me too, for goodness sake let us have a laugh sometimes.

then they need a more detailed talk guidelines to address this

Shivermetimbers13 · 19/02/2024 20:47

Another one gone, but it did seem very dodgy. won't say what it was about or it will get deleted.

Selfcare12 · 19/02/2024 21:07

@StevieNicksWannabe this same thing has irritated me as my thread was accidentally outing, I asked for it to be removed, was told no for same reasons and then threatened after it on the street from the person I had posted asking advice about. Have barely posted since 🤦🏻‍♀️

itsmyp4rty · 19/02/2024 21:23

I think it's partly because there are so many troll hunters now who think they are really clever and report everything and anything to try to prove their cleverness. I wish they'd just fuck off and leave threads alone. I appreciate that the odd thing needs reporting like someone trying to sell love potions, but threads are disappearing all the time with loads of replies for no good reason.

I wish the trolls would fuck off.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/02/2024 21:30

Another one’s just gone from money matters, all it says is ‘troll’

There was some good advice on that thread imo, it’s shame for that all to just disappear

MamaAlwaysknowsbest · 19/02/2024 21:30

well, the ones that I have seen taken down, were all bonkers, so may be it good

ButtermilkBeetroot · 19/02/2024 21:39

Sorry this is off topic tbh because it's just me being nosy but does anyone remember the thread about the music coming from the bottom of a garden? The deletion message was something like 'the true reason for this is far more tragic than first thought so we've taken it down'. Intrigues me to this day!

Surely it’s more to do with trolls themselves than so called troll hunters?

Very few genuine posters want to spend their time replying to an op in distress for example only to find the whole scenario was fake.

Yep. The deletion message was suspect as fuck. I wonder what really happened

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 19/02/2024 23:03

Re the trolls - some are also clearly designed to either gather outrage for the rag papers or to give MRAs ammunition so them going is probably good

And let's face it, today's Mumsnet trolls aren't funny. I've heard some past trolls used to be funny but not many of the current ones are. They mostly just waste our time.

Itscatsallthewaydown · 20/02/2024 07:46

And, as ever, the answer to frustrations about writing long lists of advice only to see the thread deleted is ‘don’t get overinvested in threads’.
It really is the MN golden rule.

Mental illness is real. Some threads are horrid and bullying towards the OP, including OPs who've clearly stated that they have mental health issues. I'm shocked sometimes, by the cruelty of posters.
It's not a lack of resilience in these cases, but very real vulnerability beyond the sufferer's control.
I don't understand the motivation of some posters tbh. Borderline psychological abuse in some cases. MN would be irresponsible in these extreme cases if they didn't take such awful threads down.

yes, exactly
this is not the place someone really mentally struggling to keep posting and posting and only getting ridicule. If someone is that ill, they need their family to be close to them in real life, if they are single or lonely, there should be community groups providing that love and warmth

I remember that one! They had recorded the music, was all a bit creepy but very intriguing.
Was disappointed to see the deletion message.
Would like to know what it was all about

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 21/02/2024 16:39

It's a natural consequence of MN's very uptight approach to troll-hunting.

Open troll-hunting was never allowed but, in the past, MN allowed posters to express scepticism on threads, especially if it was done humorously, not nastily. They didn't need to keep taking threads down because posters would take the mick out of likely trolls and also warn other posters if more emotive threads were likely to be untrue.

None of that gentle policing by posters is allowed any more. We're not even allowed to refer to an OP's previous posts (ridiculous). So it's take the thread down or nothing.

Stupid policy, irritates everyone, but that's MN for you. They have never had much grasp of keeping the customer happy.

UnderTheMidnightMoon · 21/02/2024 16:42

Hmmm I don't agree. Some of the threads by PBPs or trolls are just deliberately inflammatory and have real life consequences for some people who don't realise they're being goaded. We absolutely aren't allowed to troll hunt (tsk tsk) so can't say if it's a troll on the thread. So deleting is the best option

Moonlightdust · 22/02/2024 10:27

Yes the best threads I follow just disappear 😫 No explanation and never to be resurfaced again.
