And yet here you are, pushing back on what others post on a public forum.

I'm not pushing back though am I? I'm not telling anyone what they can and can't post. I'm disagreeing with a post.

Ireolu · 18/02/2024 15:58

This thread has been quite an entertaining read for me.

There wouldn't be as many comments on style and beauty, where I personally feel it belongs. that's for sure.

I am still waiting for the picture of the oversized alexa.

Opening with quite a personal accusation of arrogance isn’t really a post just offering your opinion is it?

That’s what I said in a previous post. The snidey spitefulness where it’s completely clear to anyone capable of communication but leaves the writer with just enough plausible deniability.

I prefer the outright cattiness. At least everyone knows where they stand.

PegasusReturns · 18/02/2024 16:19

lol, you are really desperate and really trying hard to defend OPs cringe post aren’t you? Did she promise to lend you this bag 😂

I’m not defending the OP’s post. I’m calling out your pathetic, lower middle class, forelock tugging sneering at “new money”.

The OP has bought something she loves, if that makes you so jealous that you have to make sneery posts about class and new money then I pity you.

Birdsworth · 18/02/2024 16:55

New money. 🙄

As if it's 'better' to inherit money than it is to earn it.

GoldenGlobes · 18/02/2024 16:55

The model in the picture on the website link doesn’t look like she loves it. I’m glad you do though! Enjoy 😊

And let us not forget that English aristocrats and landed gentry were more than happy to accept American money in the nineteenth century, by marrying American heiresses to industrial fortunes into the family, to keep their estates going... 😏

BobnLen · 18/02/2024 17:08

What's all this now about new money, landed gentry and lower middle class, I thought OP posted about a £800 bag not a country mansion. Though if she has a country mansion the property section is that way➡️

BlueLimeRun · 18/02/2024 17:09

Lovely bag - enjoy !

Has anyone suggested you could have donated to charity, purchased a bench or used a bag for life instead yet?

peakygold · 18/02/2024 17:12

Is it for your 70th birthday? My Grandma had a similar one for church.

Birdsworth · 18/02/2024 17:15

purchased a bench
Pah, I'd forgotten about that little beauty. Grin

Valtine, like it or not, that is the reason the post is contentious

@BobnLen posters - me included - are taking exception to posters like @User5512 sneering at the OP being “new money”, as if working for your money is in some way less worthy than inheriting it.

It's not worth less.

However the wealthy people I know very much fall in to two camps.

Generational wealth - humble, unassuming, never mention their wealth (almost embarrassed by it).

New money - takes every bloody opportunity to tell anyone who'll listen about how much money they have. We've been very unfortunate to have two separate neighbours like this (different houses!) and it's always been a standing joke about how they could manage to squeeze something in about how rich they are even when taking the bin out. It's tedious and embarrassing.

TBF that just sounds like most threads on here at the moment!

It's really not very classy.

Not read the thread but I can imagine. 800 quid though, that what I get a month!

The “don’t buy a designer bag buy a bench” post is my all-time favourite MN post ever. Bravo.

Witchcraftandhokum · 18/02/2024 19:59

How crass.

tutttutt · 18/02/2024 20:04

As stated before, the sneering at new money was created by jealous old money when new self made people over took them and the only thing they had left was their superior snobbery to fall back on.

Bizarrely and embarrassingly it is now the lower middle class who love to sneer at new money as they desperately want to find some way of making themselves feel better about themselves.

Meanwhile old money are desperately trying to marry new money and new money are too busy having a grand old time to care about cringey people scrabbling about in their ripped tweed and primark and Next

JackieWeaverhasendedthemeeting · 18/02/2024 20:13

Guess how much I love my new bag! I even have the matching aircraft😂
