Karen’s Diner/Katie Hopkins - cancel?

It’s my eldest’s 30th this year, and as a surprise I’ve planned a day out for us on March 17th. We’re going to Hello Kitty cafe, Priscilla the Party and ending up in Karen’s Diner in Islington.
Some of you might know Karen’s from Social media. You basically get insulted and it looks very amusing.
I see from their insta, they’re doing some kind of collaboration with Katie Hopkins in their Manchester and Birmingham restaurants I think.
I am horrified and have left comments to that effect.
I actually feel that I want to cancel, and it’s a shame as it’s something we’d wanted to do for ages.
I however, cannot give my hard earned ££ to an organisation that is giving a platform to a racist right wing Trump supporting bigot.
Am I being unreasonable to cancel our reservation??

OP I know everyone is different but would this really be your daughter’s ideal day out in London? It’s such a great city; this day feels very contrived, with lots of waiting around and not much fun. What else is she into? If she likes cafes, why not a nice afternoon tea somewhere good? Or tickets for an exhibition?

So people quoting her but not actually viewing her doesn’t make her money and actually means she has to stoop lower and lower to hook people in via click bait.

Her current clickbait is to make fun of and promote conspiracy theories about Kate Garraway and Derek Draper. That’s not an incisive political activist upholding free speech, it’s a desperate, often drunk seeming ex sleb being the village gossip for attention.

Bloody hell, from what I’ve read previously I’d assumed it was an adult only place. Can’t believe parents would take their children in there and then let them be subjected to this abuse.

@EasternStandard I can tell you with certainty she does not ‘like’ people who follow unless they are earning money for her.

Most influencers are the same - of course they have to pretend otherwise to keep everyone sweet but ultimately unless they are making money from someone following they couldn’t care less about them.
It’s business. Click bait is Katie’s business because she will never have a job in media again because she is a liability who will literally say anything to get attention even if she doesn’t believe it.

I believe there were posts on here years ago from people who knew her and the shocking persona was just a front. Maybe she has become more right wing but it’s all based in a cynical ploy to grift as much money from people as possible. Looking to her for telling the truth and standing up for the little people is like looking to Boris Johnson for monogamy guidance.

Probably ones who think they are too cool for school and that parenthood wouldn't change them! But they are still subjecting their children to being abused by strangers in restaurants. If you want to do that, do it, but dont do a #sadface in the local paper when your child is subjected to abuse in a restaurant. .

DH and I inadvertantly wandered into one of these places by in San Antonio a few years ago late afternoon (only 2-3 other tables occupied). The waitress was friendly and funny and built up a rapport with us then gradually started levelling the insults. We latched on fairly quickly but she was great and got a big tip even by US standards. A group of males walked in as we were leaving around 6pm clearly up for the abuse and they got it straight away and loved it. Mixing food with entertainmen is far from new; I can’t say I love the concept of Karen’s but there’s clearly a customer base for it.

As for the KH association, it depends if you believe in cancel culture. The chain are clearly hiring her because she provokes a reaction rather than because they buy into her vile hate-speech. if you cannot sit squarely with a firm that gives her money then boycott - but for me it’s like refusing to go to a comedy venue because they have had on a comedian whose material you object to.

Respectfully, you haven't a clue what you're talking about. I don't agree with some of what she says but she thanks her supporters daily for coming to her shows and also for daring to think critically. Something her haters could learn to do...
