Karen’s Diner/Katie Hopkins - cancel?

Quick question:
In the words of Mumsnet, AIBU?
It’s my eldest’s 30th this year, and as a surprise I’ve planned a day out for us on March 17th. We’re going to Hello Kitty cafe, Priscilla the Party and ending up in Karen’s Diner in Islington.
Some of you might know Karen’s from Social media. You basically get insulted and it looks very amusing.
I see from their insta, they’re doing some kind of collaboration with Katie Hopkins in their Manchester and Birmingham restaurants I think.
I am horrified and have left comments to that effect.
I actually feel that I want to cancel, and it’s a shame as it’s something we’d wanted to do for ages.
I however, cannot give my hard earned ££ to an organisation that is giving a platform to a racist right wing Trump supporting bigot.
Am I being unreasonable to cancel our reservation??

FSU is very much not a Trade Union. Members get no right to representation whatsoever. Any suggestion that it is a union and that members have any benefits akin to joining a trade union is sadly showing that TY’s blatant grifting tactics are working.

Glad to read that most people think the Karen theme is stupid. It’s so insulting.

That depends on what you define as "taking action". A non Union member can absolutely raise an issue with their local Trade Union, the action taken though, as you say, won't include the direct assistance of the Union.

The TUC's mission statement includes the phrase "exists to make the world a better place for everyone" which is why they campaign around broader issues.

@RosaMoline - apologies if this has already been mentioned, but if you want to go the Hello Kitty cafe I can highly recommend the one in Brighton. You can book a table, (be quick though, they get booked up fast), the food is good and the theming is lovely. My DD has been there with friends several times and they all love it.

I agree wholeheartedly with you there! It would be great if people actually took the time to listen to what she has to say, instead of just slagging her off because they don't like her! Which is how it's coming across to me, they don't like her, therefore she has nothing worthwhile to say! I confess, I myself didn't like her in the beginning, but having watched a few of her videos on YouTube, I changed my opinion! She has got some bloody guts, saying the things a lot of people are thinking anyway. But you either like her or you don't, each to their own I say.
As for the Karen cafe, never heard of it, but it doesn't sound like much fun to me! And I hate that a christian name has been used like this. I have a couple of friends called Karen, who are sick to death of it. I'm not even sure how it originated!

Islington is a very diverse area of London. Just imagine how the people of colour (and larger people) would feel about going to that restaurant.

I agree with you. Speak your mind like Katie Hopkins so that others know to stay well clear of you. I would rather know that you are that kind of person than have you pretend to be something else. Life is too short to listen to the stupid, puerile crap KH spews. I listened to a couple of her YouTube rants and they were infantile and banal. The sharpest element to them was in their cruelty.

OH, and many people said what you have just said about Hitler. Thank God that many others weren’t taken in. When push comes to shove Britain has a history of fighting back against this kind of rhetoric, and that is something to be proud of.

The food is supposedly crap in Karen, I think because their idea is to be insulting, it carries tru to the food quality.

I don’t understand these places. What if you have an actual issue, like undercooked food or you’ve noticed the toilet’s blocked and everyone’s about to be knee deep in shit? Is there a Karen’s Diner safe word?

Cancel, or don’t cancel. I don’t think they’ll care much either way. The nature of their ‘act’ isn’t geared I guess to the faint hearted. It’s not something I would come on a forum for advice on - I’m pretty sure you’ve made your mind up already, and people on here aren’t going to sway you.

Up to you how you spend your money, but personally I can’t think of anything worse than a meal at Karen’s Diner.
