Sorry if this is on the wrong thread but i'm not sure where to put it

Nearly 2yrs ago i had surgery to remove a sarcoma (no treatment afterwards as not needed). My 6 month scan was clear and i had another scan 4wks ago to check if it had come back. The hospital have rang today and told me they had booked me in next Friday to see a member of the surgery team. I am abaolutely terrified and beside myself with worry. I am a single parent to a very young child who has no contact with dad due to domestic abuse. I barely have any family/friend support. If the cancer is back i really don't know what i will do. I feel physically ill

Oh op. So sorry you're having to go through this. I'd really recommend joining the cancer threads on here either the general one or the stage 4 one in life limiting illness (if it is stage 4 that is), it's so helpful to have people around you can just rant to who know what you're going through. Sometimes other people just don't know what to say or spout 'positive thinking' bullshit instead of just acknowledging how shit and fucked up the situation is. It's not fair, cancer is a cunt. I am hoping your prognosis is a good one, and that you get some answers soon. Keep reaching our for support.

I had a thyroid uptake and ct scan on Halloween last year, never heart anything till the 20th December.( 7 weeks)Out of the blue a phone call from the respiratory department at my local hospital. Different hospital to my scan. Found out I had a mass on chest. I was told before the scan it was only extra tissue on my thyroid from birth, believing it was a routine scan. I wasn’t worried at all that I never received any news from my scan. Now I haven’t slept properly since then. I was just finished my treatment for colon cancer too. This is unrelated. I feel for you op. It’s so worrying. Like you I just want to run away from these appointments afraid what they are going to say. You are not alone, we are all here for you. Take care xx

poetryandwine · 16/03/2024 11:41

OP, I am so sorry for the delay. It is hard to know whether this timing is genuinely the best they can offer. The state of the NHS being what it is, unfortunately I think that is possible.

You are certainly within your rights to complain, however. Have you considered starting by chatting informally with PALS? Perhaps they have a sense of whether the wait time is inevitable?

Very best wishes

poetryandwine · 16/03/2024 11:42

PS I am not implying that such a wait is acceptable. It is not

Barney16 · 16/03/2024 12:07

Hello OP, sending positive thoughts. Just thought I would say you are quite right to complain. When you contact PALS you can tell them that you want the complaint immediately escalating to the chief nurse. Sometimes a complaint is investigated then if you still aren't happy it's escalated but you can miss out a stage.

Lostmymind11 · 16/03/2024 13:35

I spoke with my cancer nurse yesterday and she was going to email the surgeons to make sure they knew and were ok with the 3wk wait until they see me. She said she thinks they can operate but missed the first half hour of MDT meeting about me so is fully unsure

Thanks for the update, OP. Sounds promising

Silvers11 · 16/03/2024 17:12

@Lostmymind11 Glad you got some info from your Cancer nurse. At least if they think the wait is too long they will do something about it. Sending gentle hugs

Alwaystired23 · 16/03/2024 17:31

Fingers crossed for you, op. I hope you get a plan soon 🙏

Hey everyone, so my amazing cancer nurse got me an appointment to see the surgeon this morning. So i've been and got my plan of action. I'm having the operation thankfully. He will remove half of my liver either via keyhole or open surgery if keyhole isn't possible then i'll be back tk being cancer free and having regular scans

That's excellent news, you must be so relieved.

Am so glad you got an earlier appointment and that today was good news. I think things are easier to deal with when you have a plan rather than uncertainty.

Everythinggreen · 22/03/2024 13:23

@Lostmymind11 so glad some positive news at last. Keeping everything crossed that things go smoothly and no more hold ups. Much love xxx

Lostmymind11 · 22/03/2024 13:34

I'm so relieved they can remove it but at the same time i'm thinking bur where is it gona grow next and how much time do i have left. Its so hard. I need another CT scan before the op because he wants a picture of my liver at a different angle for the operation

Silvers11 · 22/03/2024 13:38

So pleased that surgery is possible for you @Lostmymind11. I hope it all goes well for you and that you have many, many more years to spend bringing up your child and enjoying life.

Everythinggreen · 22/03/2024 14:14

@Lostmymind11 Hopefully it won't come back elsewhere. My DPs mum had cancer for the second time about 15 years after the first, totally different form of cancer too and she, touch wood, she's been fine since. A friend of mines mum also had cancer found on 3 occasions in 5 locations and she's been cancer free for about 8 years now. They're both much older than you too so hopefully your younger immune system proves to be even tougher xxx

ClockworkDisaster · 22/03/2024 14:16

I’m so pleased to read this update. Fingers crossed your operation is soon and is trouble free for you.

Everythinggreen · 22/03/2024 14:16

@Lostmymind11 have they said when the CT scan is going to be? The sooner they get you in, it might ease your mind a little that the timescales for OP will be adhered to.

Roselilly36 · 22/03/2024 14:41

That’s fantastic news, keep positive, you will be well and healthy, keep putting that into the universe. Good luck for your op.

Betterbuckleupbarbara · 22/03/2024 15:05

I am so so happy to read this news!

PaintInColour · 22/03/2024 15:08

Thank you for the update OP. I actually have been thinking about you. Glad it was positive news and you have a plan to work with at least. I am thinking of you and good luck. XX
