Kids really do humble you

This is meant as a light hearted thread so please share your stories (if anything to make me feel better Grin )

DS is 3 and non verbal (genetic condition and possible ASD) and we were watching an animal thing on YouTube practicing words and actions but he can't speak properly so for example he'll say whaa for whale, caaa for cat etc anyway we were watching and he was saying these sorts of words and doing the actions for the animals when a big fat panda bear came on stuffing it's cute face with bamboo and as clear as day DS says "mummy" like what the heck my little dude, don't do this to me.

I'm hoping he was saying it out of context but I was proud he said an actual word but also very offended Grin

It gave me a good chuckle.

Has yours or other kids humbled you or just embarrassed you for fun?

Aww, that's so cute. Better a panda than an elephant WinkGrin

AllAboardTootToot · 16/02/2024 01:05

Haha, absolutely brutal but hilarious 😂

NewOrder · 16/02/2024 03:00

My kid once started singing (loudly) jelly on a plate while I was getting undressed 😀

😂😂

@AstorianPlease, maybe your smoky eye makeup isn't working quite as expected 😆

DanceWithYou · 16/02/2024 03:15

Ha! Harsh but funny! 🤔

My MIL was asking my toddler what colours things were

MIL: What colour is the cup?
Child: Blue
MIL: What colour is mummy’s hair?
Child: Brown
MIL: What colour are nanny’s teeth?
Child: Yellow

Ooops! 🤣 I pretended that I was busy and didn’t hear as I knew MIL would be embarrassed. She actually went and got her teeth whitened at the dentist a month or so later. 😬

At nursery they were talking about people's jobs and someone asked DS "what does daddy do?" and he said "farts a lot". Cue a lot of corpsing by staff. This was relayed to me by the nursery manager with much hilarity. ha ha but you're not married to him OH did look a bit shamefaced when I told him.

WiddlinDiddlin · 16/02/2024 05:14

On the phone to a friend, way back in the mists of time when we were teenagers...

Small voice in the background, friends 4 year old niece:

'Who is on the phone Aunty H?'
'It's my friend Widdlin, remember her, she was at your birthday last week?'

Pause... then loud as a bell..

'Ohhhhhh I likes her, she's the one Grandma says is a wazzock?!..'

From the distant shouting and louder snorty laughter from friend, I grasped that Grandma was in the room.

Fortunately I found it funny and was under no illusions that friends Mum thought any different anyway.

SantaBarbaraMonica · 16/02/2024 05:18

Daughter (5) told me everyone has their own smell. Mine is gravy apparently.

Mothership4two · 16/02/2024 05:19

Could be worse @SantaBarbaraMonica , much worse

Babsexxx · 16/02/2024 07:25

Non verbal asd adhd 5 yo DS came up behind me about a week post partum got hold of my hips shook them around “wobble wobble wobble!” 😂 I thought I looked pretty good but I couldn’t exactly see myself from the back 😅🫣.

SeaMeadow · 16/02/2024 07:41

My dd says "lovely squishy tummy" when she cuddles me. From anyone else I'd be offended but she loves me and thinks my squishy tummy is nice!

CarrieMoonbeams · 16/02/2024 08:21

Many years ago, we'd offered to take my cousin's children for a sleepover for the first time so she could have a night out. DH and I were only young ourselves, but felt very grown up as we were 21 and had our own house, although my cooking skills weren't quite up to scratch in those days. Also in my defence, we had a very old oven which we couldn't afford to replace - the temperature could be a bit unpredictable. (You can tell where this is going can't you?! ...)

When we took them home the next day, the children were very excitedly telling their mum all about it, and they said that they'd been good and had eaten all their dinner. My cousin said "That's good, and what did you have?" Her wee girl said "BLACK!" Oops!

SoupDragon · 16/02/2024 08:46

I remember DS1 saying "you're so beautiful!" to me once. Heart melting.

then I heard him saying it to his plastic gorilla 🤔

I don’t think this is funny , I think it’s really rude!!

Galeforcewindatmywindow · 16/02/2024 09:13

Once bought a faux fur hat.. Ds told me I looked like a lovely sheep...
I never wore the hat.

Hardbackwriter · 16/02/2024 09:18

Then 2 year old DS1 also identified this character as 'mummy', which DH thought was a lot funnier than I did

DS2 used to tell us that he loved the cat the most out of all the family!

BestZebbie · 16/02/2024 10:46

I bought a lovely shaping black swimming costume with shorts legs for taking DS to the pool as a preschooler. He was delighted that I had dressed up in costume so I could play being the hippo from Tinga Tinga Tales in the watering hole.

Back in the 70s, my very trendy aunt had a brown bouclé coat. Little me said to her 'ooh, I like your coat auntie Ann. It looks like the mince in spaghetti bolognese!'

To be fair, I was a pretty food obsessed child still am.

I don't think I saw her in that coat again Grin
