Kids really do humble you

This is meant as a light hearted thread so please share your stories (if anything to make me feel better Grin )

DS is 3 and non verbal (genetic condition and possible ASD) and we were watching an animal thing on YouTube practicing words and actions but he can't speak properly so for example he'll say whaa for whale, caaa for cat etc anyway we were watching and he was saying these sorts of words and doing the actions for the animals when a big fat panda bear came on stuffing it's cute face with bamboo and as clear as day DS says "mummy" like what the heck my little dude, don't do this to me.

I'm hoping he was saying it out of context but I was proud he said an actual word but also very offended Grin

It gave me a good chuckle.

Has yours or other kids humbled you or just embarrassed you for fun?

My non verbal asd kid watched me undressing and clear as day said "wobbly" 🤣 I was so proud (of language use, less so of post-children body)

Ariona · 16/02/2024 12:56

I love these threads. These are hilarious 🤣

When my DD was 5 we went on a trip including a long journey in the car listening to the radio, singing along and then had a lovely weekend in a city visiting museums and sightseeing.

Whilst we were out somewhere with friends, there was music playing and the lady gaga song 'psycho' came on and my DD said with a beaming smile on her face
'this song reminds me of you mummy!'
I was caught a bit off guard and laughed it off, but she said it whenever the song played and it turns out the song was one that we had sung to in the car that she remembers from having a lovely weekend...context is everything 😁

Lotts123 · 16/02/2024 13:09

My DD told me she loves my floppy boobies 😩

Nelbert19 · 16/02/2024 13:14

My 3 year old came to visit me and his new baby sister in hospital the day after her birth last week. When I stood up he looked puzzled and said ‘Mami if the baby is over there, why do you still have a big fat belly?’ 🤣

riotlady · 16/02/2024 13:18

DD came to hang out in the bathroom while I was having a shower.

”Mummy, why are your boobs so long?”

Mothership4two · 16/02/2024 13:32

I did tell my Mum that my best friend's mum's boobs were much darker than hers (I meant the nipples) and that was probably because she was so much older than her - she was by about 7 years and she was in her early 30s

Why did you see best friend's mum's nipples?

Toopolitetoask · 16/02/2024 14:19

Friends young son drew a picture of me, took a lot of care drawing my curly hair. Asked him if he had finished so I could have a look - 'Not yet, I need to draw your mustache' 😳

I was genuinely unprepared for that! I have very fair hair, certainly too light for bleaching, but since then I have made sure I've removed it!

Ithinkitstimeforbed · 16/02/2024 14:20

We were down a toy aisle last week and my toddler pointed at the Barbies and said “mummy dolly” I was actually pretty pleased with that and took it as a compliment 😂

Fionaville · 16/02/2024 14:23

My autistic son will ask "Are you going out like that?" When I ask him why, he just says "Oh, I was just wondering" The implication is there though 😆
And my sweet youngest, who would never say anything negative to me, will talk to my chin if there's a stray hair that needs plucking.

Why on earth were you seeing her mother's boobs?

And @MotherofChaosandDestruction

In the bath and getting dressed in the morning. What can say? It was the 70s. Her Dad, who was a shift worker, would wander around in his underpants - realise now he got up to go to the loo and put them on, because I was around. I saw all my aunts too, getting changed, etc. it was just one of those things then.

For context, I am disabled and ill so I spend a lot of time in bed, and my son is autistic and has very strange language usage.

He once came in to me when he was about 4 and looked at me silently for a good 3 minutes or so, then said “mama, you are like a big beautiful hippo who always lies in a lake of dreams”…

Bearsinmotion · 16/02/2024 19:15

@Miner That’s really sweet!

Scorchio84 · 16/02/2024 19:25

Not my own, but doubtless over the years there have been many but my OH is a plumber & was on a job fitting a new bathroom, anyway some neighbourhood child (7/8 ish?) came up to him on his bike while he was getting stuff from the van & asked him what all the various bits & pieces were, he happily obliged & told him what he was doing blah "wow that's so cool!" came the childs reply, of course OH's head started to balloon & a proud smile spread all over his face.. until the little boy said "But my dad is taller than you!" & peddled off 😂My OH very quickly came back down to earth

Merrow · 16/02/2024 19:29

I came home from work when DS1 was mid-nappy change. I went "I missed you!" and my heart melted when he said, for the first time "I missed you too" and then he ruined it by adding "butt cream". Luckily he was holding up the sudocrem triumphantly, rather than christening me with a new name.

clpsmum · 16/02/2024 19:32

My teenage son who is for the most part non verbal is obsessed with cows. Yes you've guessed it he often compliments me by stroking my head and calling me a cow!!

Miner · 16/02/2024 19:35

Bearsinmotion · 16/02/2024 19:15

@Miner That’s really sweet!

Thanks. He is a love (usually)… although he is also determined that if we were to fall in a volcano he would rescue his other mum first, because she is better company 🤷‍♀️ (explained to me in great detail while my wife was at work as usual, and I was queueing in the boiling sun to buy him and 4 of his friends ice creams with 2 flakes, sauce, sprinkles and marshmallows!)

ViciousCurrentBun · 16/02/2024 19:39

My SIL was ironing her dress wearing just her underwear, she was wearing a thong. DS who was 5 at the time asked why is Auntie B dressed as a sumo wrestler.

LiamNeesonIsADerryGirl · 16/02/2024 19:52

I was singing a nursery rhyme to DS when he was about 3 or 4. His words to me were "I love you mummy, but I'll love you even more if you stop that noise!"

RosieIs44 · 16/02/2024 20:00

I was singing The Smiths’ “stop me, stop me, stop me… stop me if you’ve heard this one before” when my DD (5) piped up perfectly timed “well I HAVE heard that one before, so yes I’m stopping you”
