What did you want to be when you were younger and what do you do now?

Just that really. What did you want to be when you grew up and what do you do now?

In primary school, I wanted to be a singer (Kylie), and in secondary school I wanted to be a lawyer (Ally McBeal). I now work in marketing.

How about you?

I was desperate to be a hairdresser. My mother wouldn’t let me. I’m a primary school teacher and desperate to leave (kids great, awful management)
Always wish I had followed my own path, I think I would’ve been much better off!

Apparently when I was very young I wanted to be an ice cream lady! Later I wanted to be a hairdresser.
I’m a dental nurse.

A journalist. I know work for a think tank doing research and writing including for the press so I'm not a million miles away (although it took me 20 years to get here!)

I wanted to be a zoo keeper specifically with monkeys. I went to college and got my diploma in animal management…but I don’t work with animals. I managed to work in a rescue kennels for 2 years but that’s been my extent

I wanted to work with children, something like an au pair sounded very glamorous and appealed to my love of travel.

I have travelled a lot but I ended up working in a chemistry lab. Hilarious considering I failed first year chemistry in college and my degree is in Zoology 😄

I wanted to be a private detective. I’m a lawyer. Not too far apart

I wanted to be a travel agent - I’m a civil servant!

I wanted to work in a chip shop when I was really young. I'm a midwife.

A vet.

I now work in IT (systems development). Still a bit too peopley for my tastes, but it pays well, so hopefully I'll get to retire early and become a professional crazy cat and donkey lady.

I wanted to be a teacher (goodness knows why). I now work in finance.

I wanted to be a midwife but have somehow ended up as a coroner's officer!

I loved the idea of being a lorry driver - seemed very glamours travelling the county seeing different things and I absolutely hated the idea of working in an office.

I wanted to be a solicitor and I am a solicitor at the top of my profession. Who knew living your childhood dream would make you so miserable!?!

A naval officer. A civil servant (who was a Sea Scout leader until recently so had salt water involved somewhere!)

Cashier then accountant when I learnt that in the modern era tills did the adding up aged 7

Then back to accountant at 11-14
Then anaesthetist as I wanted to be a doctor but didn't like the idea of patients so if they were mostly asleep that felt ok
I then went into medicinal chemistry and I now work in a drug discovery company.

Wanted to be a nurse. Am a nurse.

Went between wanting to be a lawyer and a journalist. I now work in legal comms so I think I’ve managed to combine the two fairly well!

I wanted to be a solicitor. I work in ecommerce.

Butcher or an Olympian. Now I am a Managing Director of a consumer product targeted company across many sectors.

I wanted to be a rugby player, and I was fulltime pro for a few years. For a while I also wanted to be Jasmin from Aladdin so I could marry Aladdin.

Wanted to be a fighter pilot. They wouldn't let me because of my sex. Now a civil servant and seeing all the hard-won sex-based women's rights being dismantled around me. So at least I get to do the fighting bit 😁

I wanted to be a translator ... I'm a PhD scientist / academic now in management lol 😂

I do what I always wanted to do, which is in the emergency services. Just took me some detours to get there.

My brother is an anaesthetist for that exact reason ... won't do maternity as they're usually awake lol 😂
