Just that really. What did you want to be when you grew up and what do you do now?

In primary school, I wanted to be a singer (Kylie), and in secondary school I wanted to be a lawyer (Ally McBeal). I now work in marketing.

How about you?

I only ever wanted to be a mum! Like never had a career in mind. Happily went into retail so I wouldn't be tied to a career to have kids.
I found when i wrote this at school. My mum kept the paper.

I started ttc at 18. Had dc 3 years later.

I don't know why I was like it. It's all my heart wanted.

Now 4dcs. In my 40s, Wfh, as and when I want, what hours i chose. As its our business. Without the stress of childcare costs, missing things at school etc.

My life is boring and not well lived compared to many but I'd never want to change it, or have any regrets at all.

I've wanted to be a paediatrician ever since I was in hospital as a young child. Paediatrician.

LunaTheCat · 15/02/2024 21:02

Wanted to be a doctor… I am a doctor.
I also fancy being a florist in another life.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/02/2024 21:03

Nurse. I've been a paediatric nurse for 20 years this year.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/02/2024 21:05

@DejaMooo that seems like a fascinating job. Loved the series on channel five

BouleDeSuif · 15/02/2024 21:05

I wanted to be an archaeologist, and I've got a degree in it, but life didn't turn out remotely how I wanted and I'm now a cleaner.

stomachcramps · 15/02/2024 21:08

Wanted to be a teacher and a psychologist.

I'm a teacher, and in these times of cut services I'm technically also a psychologist... and a social worker... and customer services... and a youth support worker...

When I was around 7/8 I wanted to be a cashier on a supermarket checkout.
When I was in secondary school I wanted to be a drama teacher.
I'm now a SAHM having had a very varied 20+ year work history (not involving tills or classrooms). Will be returning to the workforce in around 18 months and would love to transcribe witness statements.

NoraLuka · 15/02/2024 21:34

As a child and teen I wanted to be a writer. I still want that now and have three quarters of a novel that I add to when I have time.

BigbigFreezer · 15/02/2024 21:48

Loved sewing as a kid but never thought about it as a career.

having said I hated computers in college I worked in some massive new developments in computing in 80’s and 90’s.

ended up working for DH doing his computing and admin for his large business but would love to be designing things and making things like I see on the sewing TV channels. Keep thinking about leaving DH’s business as all computing processes are in place and he has people who can do that now, I’d love to strike out teaching sewing and designing stuff. I do it as a hobby and love it and my friends keep saying I should make it a business.

DelilahBucket · 15/02/2024 22:50

In primary school I wanted to be a teacher, in secondary school a journalist. I was more than capable of being a journalist, or something writing based, but my school, and my parents, failed me in far too many ways. I left with decent GCSEs because I was bright, not because I actually went to school, and I left home shortly after turning 16.
I run my own retail business now but am looking to return to the workplace. Unfortunately a lack of qualifications and no degree are leaving me with only a few options.

Poorlycatadvicewanted · 15/02/2024 22:52

I wanted to be a solicitor, then decided it was too much and I would prefer to be a legal secretary. However I now own and run restaurants with my husband. Still not sure how we got here!
