Eh?

Is this a person who likes dressing up as furry animals

I think those are furdies.

MorningSunshineSparkles · 15/02/2024 07:55

Don’t touch fundamentalists with a barge pole, they are never what they seem.

Jewnicorn · 15/02/2024 08:09

I mean, I’m an Orthodox Jew which I’ve heard people call (wrongly IMO) fundamentalist. Don’t think we have much in common with fundamentalist Christians though, especially when it comes to burning books and what not. I can get behind a good headscarf though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Only a slight derail but...

I totally thought this too 🤣

Panjandrum123 · 15/02/2024 08:15

@porridgeisbae in theory I’m all for live and let live, what you’re doing isn’t harming me. Wear dresses if you wish but please don’t think men are our betters. And there’s a lot of misogyny in the ‘good book’. A lot of cruelty in the Old Testament. Other books are better.

I’m with Stephen Fry, if god really created everything then why are there so many awful creatures and illnesses out there (why did there need to be a parasitic worm that causes bilharzia)? Christianity takes the view that god gave us the Earth and everything in it to do with as we saw fit which isn’t working out too well. Bring back the pagan religions that said what you took from the earth you gave back, (only we don’t need ritual sacrifices of people or animals).

KimberleyClark · 15/02/2024 08:19

I’m sorry to say this possum, but if you weren’t blessed with children I think your biblical femininity is right up the swanny. You’ll end up like the Botkin sisters, and even fundies laugh at them.

Exactly. Motherhood is the very definition of biblical feminity.

Scautish · 14/02/2024 21:40

No idea what fundies are. Are they related to cunties?

Maybe.

Fundies - the good underwear you keep for when you hope to get lucky.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 15/02/2024 08:23

FUNDIE?

I have no idea.

I thought each letter might stand for something.

I got as far as Fucked Up N? D? I? E?

Positivepotatoes · 15/02/2024 08:33

@porridgeisbae

“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces."

You should know this verse well OP.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 15/02/2024 08:35

Carrie didn't tend to have her baps out or a micro skirt or anything, just a feminine look, so it's entirely compatible with Biblical femininity.

uhm… what? You must have watched a different version of Bradwash. Did you watch a fundie remake? Some of her looks as a reminder:

short shorts, cleavage, a whole lot of stomach, the “naked dress”. The nude gown barely covers her crotch! 😂

Eightfour · 15/02/2024 08:39

Oblomov23 · 15/02/2024 02:54

@Eightfour

Abby Shapiro?

@Oblomov23 Yes, she has a misogynistic YouTube Channel in which she condescendingly bangs on about how women should be “classic”. There is so much crossover bullshit with fundies about being subservient to men etc that I got confused for a moment and forgot she was Jewish.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 15/02/2024 08:44

Boomboomshakeshaketheroom · 15/02/2024 00:42

Only a slight derail but...

Thank you! That was my reaction as well!!

I’ve already posted a few of her looks before I saw your comment.

Bradshaw certainly had her “baps” out a few times. Well, her legs, boobs, stomach, arse… OP may have watched some sort of fundie parody? 😅

Uricon2 · 15/02/2024 08:45

I think that people who bang on about their half baked notion of "Biblical femininity" (as prescribed by men) have missed the bits about Jael and a number of other ladies in both the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament.

kittensinthekitchen · 15/02/2024 08:59

I actually find the idea of born-again fundamental Christianity quite interesting, especially how it works with the OPs history of things like the occult.

@porridgeisbae would you consider doing an AMA?

determinedtomakethiswork · 15/02/2024 09:19

I have to say, OP, that one of my biggest fears in life is sitting on a plane or train next to someone like you! It happened to me in Toronto on a coach trip and I was pitied by every single of member of the coach. It was the longest journey I've ever had in my life.

SausageRoll5862 · 15/02/2024 09:30

Sorry, but I've absolutely no idea what you're on about!

Flamme · 15/02/2024 09:32

porridgeisbae · 14/02/2024 23:04

I thought that'd give you all a thrill. Grin

Someone with little knowledge of biblical scholarship

@ErrolTheDragon Most of the Bible isn't complicated. Some people try and make it seem more nuanced than it really is, to excuse doing what they want to do. I do have a concordance/lexicon and know a bit of Greek.
Scholars do know what most of the Bible means, I think. Some bits are contested but the bits that say what we should and shouldn't do are pretty clear.

Except where they contradict themselves

EffortlesslyInelegant · 15/02/2024 09:35

@porridgeisbae would you consider doing an AMA?

Please for the love of all that is holy - please spare us this!

CreateHope · 15/02/2024 00:39

@Eightfour with you on Bartlett, although as an atheist I would take it much further and add some Tim Minchin in too. “Thank You God” pretty much sums up my view.

absolute tune that

readingmakesmehappy · 15/02/2024 09:38

I still don't know what you mean.

MyNosyMum · 15/02/2024 09:43

People don't refer to their selves as fundies.

Eightfour · 15/02/2024 09:46

100%, I think other posters alluding to this just being the next in a long line of worldviews OP is trying are probably correct.

Whoopaday · 15/02/2024 09:47

Do you want to be besties with the duggars?

Do you follow “The transformed wife” for the gems she comes out with?
