I always thought fundies were those edible knickers and bras made out of little sweets.

whatsitcalledwhen · 15/02/2024 09:52

Carrie didn't tend to have her baps out or a micro skirt or anything, just a feminine look, so it's entirely compatible with Biblical femininity.

Eh?! I can't imagine an illustrated version of the bible would include Carrie's style of outfits. How are these pictures of someone 'compatible with Biblical femininity'? That claim only makes sense if you've never read the bible and also never seen SATC...

Presumably if she's someone whose style you admire, you watch the show. I don't understand why someone with the values you claim to hold would watch a show with such a focus on the characters' sex lives.

Isn't that hugely hypocritical of you? To find entertainment and enjoyment watching other people doing what you consider to be sinful?

TheWelshposter · 15/02/2024 10:04

I've never heard of a fundie on here or in real life! And what on earth is 'biblical femininity'?! I'm guessing it's not a good thing, surely OP is taking the piss.

If people only watch things where characters do things that they think are moral and compatible with their values then I guess we have a lot of murder, assault and crime loving folk in our midst. Either that or a whole bunch of “hypocrites”

ZebraPensAreLife · 15/02/2024 10:07

She’s wearing more than Eve did originally…

racoonsinbins · 15/02/2024 10:07

I think Bo Burnham has it in his song "from the Perspective of God"
"The books you think I wrote are way too thick
Who needs a thousand metaphors to figure out you shouldn't be a dick?"

TheNinny · 15/02/2024 10:09

I grew up in a fundie movement - though it was probably more fundie lite as im in the UK. Most of my family would probably fit this definition. As an adult I’m involved to a lesser degree with the movement and likely wouldn’t be described now as fundie or fundie lite.

Eightfour · 15/02/2024 10:11

@ZebraPensAreLife - I nearly spat out my drink at that 😆

Fair point 😂

You know what I mean though, OP's definition of 'biblical femininity' seems very strange when she claims it applies to someone famous for a fashion look that very often includes super short skirts, see through fabric, crop tops, super high heels etc.

I think she looks amazing. But then I'm a heathen Grin

Tessisme · 15/02/2024 10:50

Are you in NI @porridgeisbae? I was going to say you'd fit right in with, um, certain groups in our society - but thinking about it, all that belief in 'evolution and stuff' means you'd be an absolute pariah. You need more inflexibility of thinking. You might need a hat - ya know, for church. And then there's the compulsory evangelising.

This isn't just Fundamentalism. This is Northern Ireland Fundamentalism.

Always good to have a goal.

DinaofCloud9 · 15/02/2024 10:51

Can you give more detail because you aren't making much sense?

Cwtshcwtsh · 15/02/2024 10:53

@CreateHope @Eightfour I’m so grateful for you introducing me to Tim Minchin! What a genius. I just listened to Thank You God twice, back to back.

KreedKafer · 14/02/2024 21:35

Looking at your previous posts, you drink, model your look on Carrie Bradshaw, go to showings of The Wicker Man so you do not meet any definition of ‘fundie’ that I’m familiar with.

I do hope it was the original Wicker Man and not the awful American re-make (which I refused to watch…LOVED the original) :)

PS… What’s a Fundie?

Eightfour · 15/02/2024 10:55

@Cwtshcwtsh - can only apologise for the rabbit hole that you will now be falling down, but also not sorry at the same time.

WingsofRain · 15/02/2024 10:55

I’m failing to see the AIBU angle here, to be honest.

DreamVortex · 15/02/2024 10:56

Oh bloody hell. First it's masturbation is evil, then it's pray away the gay, now whatever the fuck this is. Give it a rest.

MyNosyMum · 15/02/2024 10:57

The OP can't come back and elaborate because, if she is as fundie as she claims, she shouldn't be on the cesspit that is the WWW.

Ladyritacircumference · 15/02/2024 10:58

I am interested to know which era you ground your fundamentalism in. The earliest Christians were a revolutionary messianic sect within Judaism. Jesus was a Rabbi. Jesus and his followers never stopped being Jews.

The Pauline Christianity of the Diaspora is the first non-Jewish Christianity. St Paul version of First Century Christianity was one of many in the diaspora. The ideas that made it in to the Christian New Testament were decided much later to suit the political and social concerns of the emerging churches. If you look at the rest of the early christian gospels and testaments that don’t make it in to the New Testament there are some pretty diverse ideas there. Surely all these ideas in the deutrocanonical literature ( dating from before the canon of the New Testament was closed ) should be fair game for fundamentalists? They are after all the original teachings of the early church?

Ha. Quite.

PeridotSparkle · 15/02/2024 11:02

"Fundie" - sounds like part of a uterus 🤣

StockpotSoup · 15/02/2024 11:03

You’re the loon who tried to claim boys have to have short hair because it’s in the bible 🙄

MamaAlwaysknowsbest · 15/02/2024 11:06

not sure is it about fundamentalist christian. If this is the meaning of the world, you don't have to be one. Just be Orthodox Christian and a normal human who loves God, self and others ( yes, in that order ), work hard, pay your taxes, behaves wisely towards outsiders as to not dishonour God's name

I watched the drama about the Moors murders they made a few years ago. That doesn’t mean I took a picture of Myra Hindley to the hairdressers.

Only a slight derail but...

Well that one is a bit revealing nah, I definitely wouldn't wear that one. Smile

^You’re spot on.
(was raised essentially Duggar style. This isn’t a real one.)^

@TMess I've been om MN quite a long time. If I don't seem like a 'real' one to you maybe it's because I'm a convert. So I have 40 years of being around and enjoying all the worldly influences, that I have to try and forget. Smile
