No but I think I met one on the last psych ward I was stuck on. (Seriously sounds similar!)

Are you Abby Shapiro?

No, silly, she's not a fundie, unless she's a Jewish fundie. Smile I do watch her stuff sometimes though.

Please explain your True Fundie biblically feminine approach to life OP?

@LauderSyme Watch old Girl Defined videos, before they tried to rebrand themselves. They put it better than I ever could. They do wear jeans though. Boo, hiss :)

Is this about headscarves?

@10ThousandSpoons I guess it somewhat could be.

Do people actually refer to themselves as "fundies"? It sounds so dismissive, I'd have assumed not.

@cauliflowerqueen I meant it in a kind of tongue in cheek way because of how a lot of MNers seem to be about anything to do with Biblical Christianity. Glad to meet a fellow traditionalist. :)

How do you feel about tichels, OP?

@SmashedPrawnsInAMilkyBasket I've heard there's a tichel troll and read a couple of their posts cited on the Forum that Shall not be Named. I'm not them if that's what you're implying. Confused Tichels in general sound ok. I don't know much about the intricacies of Jewish women's attire. Smile

A Christian fundie? Like the Duggar family?

@Firebird83 With fewer sex offences maybe. Smile

Maybe you could explain since the OP is being so rude.

@MrsTerryPratchett Sorry for the delay, I just had to phone my mum and stuff.

I would say a Christian Fundamentalist would be one who believes the Bible is the inspired word of God and tries to stick to what it asks of us.

No idea what fundies are. Are they related to cunties?

I wouldn'tve thought so.

Do you have more than eight children OP?

@Spaghettieis I wasn't blessed with children. I can barely handle cats.

‘Biblical femininity’
<shudder>

I thought that'd give you all a thrill. Grin

Someone with little knowledge of biblical scholarship

@ErrolTheDragon Most of the Bible isn't complicated. Some people try and make it seem more nuanced than it really is, to excuse doing what they want to do. I do have a concordance/lexicon and know a bit of Greek.
Scholars do know what most of the Bible means, I think. Some bits are contested but the bits that say what we should and shouldn't do are pretty clear.

Oh I forget Abby Shapiro is Jewish. You had that same smug condescending tone and I got confused for a moment. My bad.

Although I have this strong feeling you are just here to rile people up and wouldn’t know a bible verse from a Dr Seuss book.

JanglingJack · 14/02/2024 23:14

It's just another manic fundie
She wish it was Sunday
'cos that's her fundie

Sing along....

PickAChew · 14/02/2024 23:14

Are you a fundie in the sense that you spend your days sitting on your fundament, mumsnetting?

theduchessofspork · 14/02/2024 23:16

I’m sorry to say this possum, but if you weren’t blessed with children I think your biblical femininity is right up the swanny. You’ll end up like the Botkin sisters, and even fundies laugh at them.

However since not eating shellfish has been fixed by refrigeration, and water into wine has not proved scalable, I’d chalk it up as a fast fail and move on.

Philosophy degree? Eightfold Path? Peace Corps? There are so many options in this area.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 14/02/2024 23:16

Do you fund people? If so, I could do with a nice holiday.

I can't argue with that TBF.

How old do you think the earth is?

(I know this isn’t an AMA!)

I do actually believe in evolution and stuff. I know that probably stops me qualifying as a True Fundie though. Smile A Priest said to me that after all we don't know how long one of God's days is. Smile

But do you believe that the King James translation was inspired by god?

I thought that was the basic definition of a Fundie?

and do you have some thoughts on the Dragon in revelations? Or the bit where god sent bears to kill the children becuase they laughed at a bald man?

Also, slightly tangentially - because it’s absolutely not KJV / accepted cannon - but have you read the infancy gospels? Some very good Harry-Potter stuff in those about tiny baby Jesus stopping monsters. A++ would have gone to Sunday school for longer if they’d told me those instead of making me colour in endless pictures of Noah’s Ark.

Eightfour · 15/02/2024 00:01

“Evolution and stuff” made me laugh.

penjil · 15/02/2024 00:07

"Fundies" are people from Newfoundland. Or at least that's what they're called by Canadians.

I presumed that's what you were asking....are you the only Canadian from Newfoundland here.

😬

penjil · 15/02/2024 00:12

ZebraPensAreLife · 14/02/2024 23:11

Even the bits that completely contradict each other?

Well, the bible was inspired by God, not written by him.

It was written by all manner of different people from different backgrounds. So that's one reason for any contradiction.

I like the New Testament. The life and times of Jesus. The old testament not so much.

Generally, the bible is a pretty good framework for life. You can't go too wrong with the 10 commandments.

Eightfour · 15/02/2024 00:21

@penjil 6-10 I am fine with 1-5 are not necessary, 3 of them are just concerned with making sure you worship God, feels needy.

The Old Testament god is extremely needy, not to mention jealous, tyrannical, vengeful, manipulative and he played favourites. And did a lot of smiting.

Im surprised the OP has any time to sit on her fundament with all the stuff from Leviticus she has to do, like avoiding menstruating women, not wearing linen and wool together, keeping kosher.

Much like me playing The Sims.

As soon as anyone starts talking about being a fundamentalist Christian I have the President Bartlet scene in my head.

CreateHope · 15/02/2024 00:39

@Eightfour with you on Bartlett, although as an atheist I would take it much further and add some Tim Minchin in too. “Thank You God” pretty much sums up my view.

Eightfour · 15/02/2024 00:41

@CreateHope - Do you ever try to keep up with the lyrics of that song, it’s a feat!

You’re spot on.
(was raised essentially Duggar style. This isn’t a real one.)
