Sick of these monsters still being on our streets (I never see them muzzled as their irresponsible owners don't comply) and worse still knowing that they are still in homes with children.

AIBU that they should be put to sleep NOW

I live on a council estate and I've only ever seen one and that was just after the ban came in. They aren't the preferred breed of the drug dealers and thugs around here

Anyway it was bloody huge and was taking its idiot owner for a walk, it stopped to have a stare at us, not necessarily in a I want to eat you way but it's owner couldn't get it to move. The size and strength of the things is quite frightening

It isnt just XL either my area very small town has seen a few dog attacks on local pathways along the river. I often walk their with DS and have taking to carrying a small multitool with knife (legal) in my pocket just encase. Sorry but if a dog owner lets their dog near my DC showing any aggression I have no heaitation to defend my child ane put that dog down myself.

Defend yourself with a multitool knife???
You've got NO chance.
a firearm and the ability to use it coupled with a clear shot of the creature before it gets to you, or nothing.
A multitool knife, it wont even feel it and how are you going to use it when the large muscular canid has hold of you or your child.
Put the dog down, dont make me laugh, it's not a squirrel.
(I'm sorry, I know this comes across as rude)

@Gloriosaford Sadly you are right-

@MixedCouple - After I had a frightening experience with one of these awful fighting types there is only one thing you can do - and that is to cut off its airway with a noose or belt
( videos online show how)
These are not like normal dogs as they don’t let go even when repeatedly kicked in the head by an iron shod horses’s hoof.

The strength of these XL’s is immense ( I’m used to horses and it was harder to control than a large hunter type horse from the ground.

Look online at how to defend yourself from
a large Pitbull ( which is what these are).

A multi tool knife is useless.( a self defence site against pitbull attack explains why)

Maybe a much larger, stronger blade would work, but is illegal to carry in U.K.

A firearm is the best way if in a country where it is legal to own one- but even then you have to be careful with a stray round, and need to be well trained in aiming at a fast moving target ( especially it it is attached to a human )

It is crazy that people need to worry about defending themselves or their children ot pets from these man created monsters.

People in U.K. are woefully unable to legally defend themselves appropriately from dangerous dog attacks.

Avoidance is by far the best thing.

Babsexxx · 19/02/2024 18:32

It’s postcode lottery as to who is taking this seriously! I live in a expensive area so there is a assumption that all owners are competent! And it just isn’t true I’ve reported several XLS unleashed unmuzzled even one every morning at my kids school gates nothings happened!

Pretty terrifying when you have a non verbal adhd child with a love of dogs! I fear daily what if he approaches this dog?! (I push a double pram he knows to hold on at the roads but this is literally at the school gates!) reported even to the school NOTHING.

We are a town that nothing bad has happened YET but it’s just a matter of time!

Gloriosaford · 19/02/2024 21:05

@oakleaffy
Exactly! We might as well have leopards roaming the streets for all that we can do about these things.
Even with a larger stronger blade you'd have to get pretty lucky, most likely the owner would grab it off you & stab you for threatening his creature.
Avoidance, yes but they have form for breaking out of places and hunting down humans & other dogs, lots of videos of the fecking things bursting out of no-where & attacking

TheTimeIsNowMaybeNow · 19/02/2024 21:26

There's a video of a guy bashing the crap out of one with a shovel and it didn't even stun it. I doubt stabbing one would make much difference, unless we all start carrying machetes around

oakleaffy · 19/02/2024 22:11

Choking seems to be the ''best'' way, but easier said than done.
Guy says ''Chokking''...but he means choking. {Obviously police marksmen are best option, but this til they arrive}

There is no need for anyone to carry a knife, gun, or choking device. Despite the recent hysteria in the media, you are still statistically more likely to win the lottery than be fatally attacked by a strange dog.

You all need to calm the fuck down and get a new, healthier hobby.

bingoringo4 · 19/02/2024 22:41

My god the hysteria 😬 I think you all need a break from the news. Guns, knifes and chocking devices 🫣 you sound like loons.

So when a monster XL charged me and my dog and my friend's dog and it's pathetic, feeble wimpy sap of an owner stood there screaming at it , you want people like me {who is still attending hospital physio from the incident} ''to get a better hobby?''
How about cretinous weak owners who are so insecure they have to hide behind a mauler mutt?

People should arm themselves.

We and our families and pets should not be put at risk by irresponsible people's choice of dog that they hide behind.

Gloriosaford · 19/02/2024 22:49

@oakleaffy were you able to report them?
(no point engaging with the pitbull apologists/cult members)

Frequency · 19/02/2024 22:59

@oakleaffy Yes, if you genuinely believe that encouraging people to illegally carry weapons is both responsible and proportionate you need a new hobby.

If it means they or their children are protected I say go for it.
Why should they suffer because some cretin can't control their lard arsed mutt?

Yes, it was reported -but the person got away with it..Owner did a ''Pit and run'' {It happened in fields...local Dog warden was wonderful}

Owner was very distinctive, as was the mutt. Owner appeared afraid of it.

You’re more likely to be attacked by a human being but we are not allowed to carry weapons against them.

I guess this girl should just "get a better job", too.

There is no reason for anybody to own an animal capable of this as a pet. Any type of dog that can overpower a human and has aggressive tendencies in its breed has no place in human society.

It's good to hear that about the dog warden.

Humans are not analogous to dogs, and we have laws to deal with attacks from humans.

They’re not monsters. Just like Rottweilers, German shepherds and staffies before them, they are the status symbol dog of shitheads, people who’ve got no clue how to care for a dog let alone be responsible for one. The difference with these is they are so big, muscular and strong, and their jaws are so large and strong, that the damage they can do is much more serious.

It’s never Mr and Mrs Smith from a nice area whose XL bully has attacked someone or Laura who spends hours a day training hers and has plenty of experience with big dogs. It’s some bellend who doesn’t know anything about dogs, let alone powerful ones, doesn’t use a lead because why should he, and lets his kids ride the dogs like a seaside donkey.

Nb to add that obviously there are lots of responsible owners of XL bullies, you’re not all shitheads and bellends.

No it isn’t because Mr and Mrs Smith from a nice area have a Labrador or Cocker Spaniel. I live in a “nice” village, everyone has a dog (too many actually!) all are nice family breeds, thankfully no XL’s. It’s a certain type of person owning these dogs 95% of the time.

I still wouldn’t trust them with “responsible” owners though. Irresponsible and selfish to own one and put other people and animals at risk. They are only doing what they were bred to do, for example collies herd and XL bullies maul.

We have laws to deal with attacks by dogs too. Both kick in after the fact though.

Jesus Christ!!!

I am seriously worried about the mental state of some posters on here!

Sharing information on how to brutally maim/kill animals - you all ought to be bloody ashamed of yourselves 😡

If an XL attacks, then euthanasia should be done by a vet, or at least a trained marksman/police!

While the XL is maiming someone's child? Or horse or decent pet ?
Funny how the savage damage these mauler mutts do is never considered by the Bully apologists.

You bet most parents worthy of the name will defend their child.
the child {or old vulnerable person or pet} could be dead before armed police arrive.

HellsAngel81 · 20/02/2024 04:51

I am not a bully apologist - at least the ones that have been badly brought up, and then gone on to savage/kill. I truly feel for those who have lost their lives, and also for their families.

But euthanasia should be HUMANE and left to the professionals!

Stabbing does not fall into that category!

Yes, the first part is the point I was making…

You’re woefully inaccurate on the second part though.
