For me it’s got to be those massive bloody clocks made up of parts which get stuck to the wall. We’re house hunting at the moment and they’re in almost every kitchen. Those and navy walls nearly always coupled with wicker furniture and cheese plants - it feels like such a ‘done’ look now.

Spot lights in a lounge ceiling tip me into depression. What psycho wants to relax under spotlights.

Urgh yes. I have these in my lounge as they were here when we moved in and I hate them.

greengreengrass25 · 11/02/2024 20:27

I love my spotlights in the kitchen, very practical

OlyRoller · 11/02/2024 20:27

Wooden floors laid diagonally

Nomooplease · 11/02/2024 20:27

Satin bed covers & curtains or any shiny material tbh especially in purple.
Leather sofas, especially in white
Glass furniture such as coffee tables or dining tables
Too much emphasis on everything matching
Faux leather high backed dining chairs
Grey, Cream or Beige overload.

MaryActsLikeSheDontCare · 11/02/2024 20:28

I don’t like bold/strong colours, eg red kettle and toaster, a feature wall

Dark wood (mahogany, walnut) furniture

Black tiles and worktops

The grey everything trend

Plastic grass

Kitchen spotlights needed. It’s a work space.

Photos (including those god awful canvas pics you can have made) on walls - walls are for art, not family photo albums.

Yes! I like framed photos on my desk / bedside table etc but never on walls and I’ve never quite been able to put my finger on why, but this is it!

Absolutely - I have framed photos on side tables, window sills, sideboards etc. That's where they belong!

greengreengrass25 · 11/02/2024 20:29

Yes but anywhere else not so great 😀

UncleHerbie · 11/02/2024 20:29

EVERYTHING matching. A woman I worked with in the 90s had amongst other rooms, a Next room, a Laura Ashley room and a Rasta room (red, gold and green). I kept my opinions to myself as she didn’t ask for it but internally I thought “boring”, mainly because I loathe matchy-matchy as I think it’s naff

Lantyslee · 11/02/2024 20:31

Baths in bedrooms - who wants steamy damp bed linen?

PSEnny · 11/02/2024 20:32

TVs on walls, surely your neck gets sore looking up?
Also massive TVs, why do people need one that big?
Any signage on walls is vomit inducing, my biggest hate of these is ‘gather’ on the wall in dining rooms 🤮

Notevenslightlydamp · 11/02/2024 20:34

Corner sofas and wall mounted TVs.
And more generally, houses that are decorated as per trends and influencers. Houses should have personality and echo the tastes of the family and their eclectic possessions, not be a homage to what's trending on social media.

sorestupid · 11/02/2024 20:35

I love lights & find it depressing when houses only have dozens of spotlights

My tv is on the wall and it’s not that high. I got more of a crick in my neck when I had to look diagonally at the corner of the room.

As for size, ours is 55” - a good size for our room. And I like the size because I like to be able to see what I’m watching. People often get snobbish about big tvs and even just tvs in general but that and my phone is a life saver to me when I’m housebound.

BuntyWindermear · 11/02/2024 20:37

What’s wrong with plants ?!!🪴 Nature is not a trend !! No bloody wonder there’s so much fucking environmentally damaging plastic grass around 🙄🤬

TwistedSisters · 11/02/2024 20:40

I love how predictable these threads are 😂all the MN snobs immediately jumping on to say 'grey grey grey', 'fake panelling', all meaning 'I've got so much more class than that !'

And no I don't have an all grey house 😆i have one room that has grey and pale green .

I personally dislike it when a house is either all one entire colour (like grey but magnolia is another culprit 😄) or every room is completely different and there's no coordination or flow whatsoever. Theres a happy middle ground! I don't like cluttered worktops and houses full of 'stuff' either.

A 55 inch TV? The room must be huge!
Not sure what your phone has to do with interior decor?

I agree...spotlights are practical, but I do prefer nice big lights, especially in living areas.

Prizefighter · 11/02/2024 20:42

Wall mounted tvs are a menace - always in the wrong place, generally too high and nearly always making the room at least 10% naffer than it needs to be.

Furniture pressed against the walls of the room like embarrassed teenagers at a disco.

Cheap paint (no it isn’t ‘matched’ it is cheaper base and cheaper pigments)

Downlighters in cool white - agree with pp, only for psychos

Everything too low - low sofa, low coffee table, low pouffe.

pictures way too small and too high for the wall - floating untethered.

No rugs.

The phone has nothing to do with interior decor. I was just pointing out my tv and phone are life savers.

And no, room isn’t huge. Decent though.

Ooh I agree with all of these. I hate cool white dowlinghters especially! And I love rugs, cushions, blankets and lamps - they make any room so much cosier.

Giant canvas photos

sorestupid · 11/02/2024 20:46

@TwistedSisters they have their use, I have a few in my kitchen & bathroom but I also have other lights too.

DilemmaDelilah · 11/02/2024 20:47

'Distressed' paintwork and shabby chic. It's not chic... It's just shabby. I particularly don't want to spend good money on something that looks old. If it really is old, that's another matter, but I don't want it to have been carefully painted and then had the paint rubbed off.
