For me it’s got to be those massive bloody clocks made up of parts which get stuck to the wall. We’re house hunting at the moment and they’re in almost every kitchen. Those and navy walls nearly always coupled with wicker furniture and cheese plants - it feels like such a ‘done’ look now.

Interested to hear yours!

What’s a gallery wall?

livingthegoodlife · 11/02/2024 19:58

eyelet curtains!!! yes

wall signs
grey everything
crushed velvet
open plan
plastic grass
giant grey front doors

Moier · 11/02/2024 19:59

Magnolia

TodayForTomorrow · 11/02/2024 19:59

White walls

Leather sofas. I have one and it is undeniably and irritatingly practical with small kids but i can't wait to get rid of it.

EmpressSoleil · 11/02/2024 19:59

Spotlights. So cold and soulless. I don't want to live in an operating theatre. Linked to that, totally empty kitchen work tops. Same vibe.

Mirror above the fireplace. Only acceptable to me if the room is tiny and you need to try and make the space look bigger. Otherwise be a bit more original.

No bath! My biggest pet peeve! Love a good bath and I wouldn't move to a house that only had a shower.

peachgreen · 11/02/2024 20:00

I think my granite worktops thing wasn’t clear – it’s only the sparkly / fake marble kind I hate!

OddityOddityOdd · 11/02/2024 20:00

Open plan living, just dreadful. Everyone in one space, cooking smells, dishes, mess etc. what's wrong with doors and separate spaces? Just hideous.

JustJessi · 11/02/2024 20:00

Modern, silver fireplaces.
Grey.
Signage.

chosenone · 11/02/2024 20:01

Bifold doors. Fake grass. Grey.

Woodworm2020 · 11/02/2024 20:01

I know it’s popular, but I can’t get on board with gold hardware, or rose gold. I agree with the grey - we have been house hunting and I have found my heart sink when there is a new kitchen that is grey gloss (or any gloss) and dark grey carpets - so expensive to replace.
I did this in my last house but he slate feature wall - it looks so dated now.

What’s a gallery wall?

This sort of thing.

Word art, ugly media walls. I have seen ONE media wall I like (below). Grey, obviously. Red carpets. Super super open plan. Like big open kitchens but need other separate spaces.

What's wrong with eyelet curtains! Don't have them but quite like them

I personally like a bit of grey - not everything grey but we do have grey carpets upstairs. I love that people have different tastes and love seeing other peoples homes.

Im not a fan of wordy decal stickers on walls, also not keen on lots of stuff, for example lots and lots of books or things on shelves. I’m not really keen on the cottagey look unless it’s an actual cottage. Personally not keen on clashing patterns or anything with large floral patterns

Birch101 · 11/02/2024 20:02

Grey
Velvet sofas
Bold garish floral wallpaper
Large clocks
Live laugh love artwork
Grayish type hard vinyl laminate flooring
Glossy kitchen cupboards
All open plan
Mirrored furniture
Diamante bejeweled stuff

peachgreen · 11/02/2024 20:04

Ooh yes grey click laminate. And Elephant’s Breath, which is the new magnolia.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/02/2024 20:05

Also on Rightmove a lot as possibly listing mine in the summer

Fake grass
kitchen islands
those open plan kitchen/living rooms - how noisy is YOUR washing machine ffs
a few 3 story houses that have a cloak room on the ground floor, living room and bedroom in the middle and bedrooms plus ensuit and family bath on the third - so the poor sod in the middle has to go up or down at 3am for a wee.

My biggest bug bear, especially with new builds - semi detached where the doors and layout aren't side by side - so rather than having most of the house connected via the hall, stairs, bathroom all the main rooms and bedrooms share a wall - why?

SusieKin · 11/02/2024 20:05

Anything grey. Absolutely hate it.

Gowlett · 11/02/2024 20:06

Dried flowers / those big dusty reed things.
Wicker chairs. We had one back in the 80s.

Moier · 11/02/2024 19:59

Magnolia

Yes - our whole house was that when we moved in - dd2 named it 'suicide yellow' it was swiftly painted over

TVs nailed to walls.

It’s not decor, it’s safety.

Poniesandpigs · 11/02/2024 20:08

Fake grass.
TV stuck above the fireplace/on walls in general.
Mirrored furniture.
Everything open plan. Why would you want your sofa and living room furnitures smelling of cooking? Or listening to your washing machine and dishwasher when you’re trying to watch tv!

GrouchyKiwi · 11/02/2024 20:08

I personally prefer my curtains not to cover the radiators, which are usually situated under windows.

I'm not really bothered by any interior design fashion. It can all be changed.

But I am annoyed by the textured ceilings in the house we bought recently. Can't afford to get them skimmed for ages so have to put up with them.

NotAllowed · 11/02/2024 20:09

Exposed bulbs.
Cold whitish-blue bulbs in ceiling lights.
Family photoshoots that they bought off Wowcher used as wall art.
Disney anything.
DFS sofas.

boredybored · 11/02/2024 20:10

What's wrong with plants indoors ?
I love my giant plants .

I've recently sold and had weird feedback about decor . That is all coming with me , you are buying the walls and footings but my bloody stuff ! 🙄
