For me it’s got to be those massive bloody clocks made up of parts which get stuck to the wall. We’re house hunting at the moment and they’re in almost every kitchen. Those and navy walls nearly always coupled with wicker furniture and cheese plants - it feels like such a ‘done’ look now.

Interested to hear yours!

Fake plastic grass
Mirrored anything
Grey, grey, grey
Fluffy, sparkly carpets
Gloss kitchens, especially in red
Cold white lights, especially spotlights
Faux marble anything
Sparkly granite countertops (not because they look bad but because they are revolting to keep clean)
"Upcycled" furniture which is code for "Sharon got bored on a Sunday afternoon and painted this beautiful mahogany bureau with dusty rose chalk paint"
Those fucking chairs with the door knockers on the back

NotSmallButFunSize · 11/02/2024 20:13

Well I have an ivory gloss kitchen (no handles), navy walls, gallery walls, 'pics' that are slogans, grey carpet....

Couldn't care less if other people don't like it, it's my house!

But I do agree that I hate grey walls plus grey furniture plus more grey blah blah 😉

OriginalRyvita · 11/02/2024 20:14

Media walls in the living room particularly with those led lights.
LVT flooring,
Black granite worktops,
Those odd looking corner pantries,
Mrs Hinch's type insta-styled look.

Thursa · 11/02/2024 20:14

Open plan
minimalist, I always think “where’s your stuff”

Viewfrommyhouse · 11/02/2024 20:15

Pampas grasses in tall vases.
Eyelet curtains.
Bifolds.
Grey.
Photos (including those god awful canvas pics you can have made) on walls - walls are for art, not family photo albums.
Integrated appliances.
Roller blinds.
Vertical blinds.
Sill length curtains.
Herringbone flooring.
Anything mirrored (other than an actual mirror).
Neon signs.
Open shelves in kitchens.
Chopped cushions.
Media walls.
Fake panelling, particularly in modern houses.
Acoustic walls.

There's a few to start with.

HoweverWeare · 11/02/2024 20:16

Unsympathetic refurbishment.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/02/2024 20:16

"Industrial" style lighting

Chuck in all the grey (what on earth were people thinking?) and you might as well be in a factory

43ontherocksporfavor · 11/02/2024 20:17

Bland off white rooms painted by people thinking of the next buyer.
UVPC front doors.
Oh and the ubiquitous kitchen diner/ island/ bifold combo.

0rangeCrush · 11/02/2024 20:17

Fake wood
I’m fine with grey but I hate people who are scared of adding colour
Meaningless scenic photos
cables on show

Iwasafool · 11/02/2024 20:18

I don't think I hate anything. Some things I wouldn't have personally but haven't got the energy to hate interior design.

GetWhatYouWant · 11/02/2024 20:18

Huge TV above elongated rectangle fake flame electric fireplace.
Electric fake wood burners.
Grey front doors with central long narrow window and brushed chrome huge long vertical handle.
Plastic grass.
Raised beds all around sides of garden, topped with white gravel, with alternating phormuims and box balls.
Hanging plastic box balls.
Plastic flowers and all fake plants.

Garlickit · 11/02/2024 20:19

"Live Laugh Love"
Sure, if you need reminding ... 👀

goingback · 11/02/2024 20:19

Anything home decor that is on trend , or looks cluttery, anything sold by B&M, Home Bargains, The Range. What i really dislike is generic art prints. Plenty of great original art that doesn't cost a lot.

GiveHerEffervescence · 11/02/2024 20:20

Completely disagree on houseplants. How can a natural thing be a trend? Have them everywhere - purify air make me happy. Oxygen in the air will be a trend at this rate 😂

Redbone · 11/02/2024 20:20

Those tacky wooden or plastic slogans saying Family or Love etc etc

Lykke1000 · 11/02/2024 20:21

Ugly grey or beige/light brown practical and cheap LVT flooring
Banksy canvas cliches
metal bed frames

Weedoormatnomore · 11/02/2024 20:21

WellThisIsFun1 · 11/02/2024 19:31

Grey.

Grey grey grey grey grey

This

sorestupid · 11/02/2024 20:22

Er, why can’t it be a trend & it very much was a trend…

Lizzyinatizzy · 11/02/2024 20:23

Plastic grass.

ChangeUsername123 · 11/02/2024 20:25

Too much clutter and too much colour. I LOVE neutrals. And I often see it on here that the MN snobs deem it to be tacky, boring, soulless etc. When really, it’s just preference. Or in my case partly to do with being overwhelmed. I get anxious if there’s too much stuff and I find neutral calming and relaxing. I can’t stand bright colours, lots of stuff in each space but I don’t look down on those that do.

I hate fake grass. And windows, door frames and paintwork that are anything other than white.

We also have a media wall which we built around the oddest shaped chimney breast we had previously. If ever this goes out of fashion (though I doubt it would bother us as it’s perfect in our room) then I’d plasterboard the holes in and make it like a proper chimney breast. Oh and we have bifold doors in the dining room because they give us the best space.

biscuitnut · 11/02/2024 20:25

Mirrored furniture
crushed velvet
those dining chairs with a handle on the back
shiny black tiles
designer stuff in your face like a bath mat with Chanel written on it
grey,grey and more grey..

GiveHerEffervescence · 11/02/2024 20:25

Spot lights in a lounge ceiling tip me into depression. What psycho wants to relax under spotlights.

peachgreen · 11/02/2024 20:26

Yes! I like framed photos on my desk / bedside table etc but never on walls and I’ve never quite been able to put my finger on why, but this is it!

Garlickit · 11/02/2024 20:26

An unexpected pleasure of having to start more or less from scratch at my age: I can be very pragmatic, populate the place with serviceable rectangles from Ikea. I'm past needing to express myself through my exquisitely eclectic taste in furnishings, and nothing's going to have to last long.

Thirty-something me would've been surprised to hear this!

IgnoranceNotOk · 11/02/2024 20:26
