Just been watching the news about Biden's memory. He really needs to step down IMHO.

A key question is how much does it really matter?

Does the president actually turn the curve much on anything or does 99% of the core business of government just keep rolling on, getting done by civil servants and public servants who just keep turning up and doing mostly what they've always done.

New leaders will pick a few key areas and try to start some flagship initiatives, and the media will follow all this as though it has a massive impact on our daily lives.

But has life actually changed all that very much for the average citizen in the last 100 years? And for any changes that have happened, how much have they really been influenced by government leaders?

Naunet · 10/02/2024 09:05

Yeah but at least we don’t have to pick between two creepy men with dodgy histories of perverted interactions with their own daughters.

We don't generally have to time our leaders against a lettuce, though - unless you include Republican Speakers.

Also - y'all keep parroting the Putin "both sides" utter nonsense. Please compare and contrast the political and moral records of Trump and Biden.

EasternEcho · 10/02/2024 09:12

The choice is between one geriatric man of honor and vast experience, and another geriatric man without honor, a congenital liar, a sex offender, a tax chiseler, wanna be dictator, draft dodger and an traitor to his oath of office. I think I'll vote for the former man every time.

Here you go.

President Biden and Vice President Harris ran for office on the promise to move quickly to deliver results for working families. That's what they've done.

I did the whole American system nuts. A choice of two, both of which are either 80 plus or pushing 80! Bonkers.

It’s pretty extreme to be so fanatical you’ll defend a pervert and possible child abuser just because they represent a political party you align with. Where’s your morals?

Harvestfestivalknickers · 10/02/2024 09:21

I'd like to know who is making the decisions behind the scenes. Yes, Biden has a good track record but I don't believe he's driving policy. Everytime he makes a speech there's this genuine air of anxiety and look of concern around him. He doesn't speak well and I think we've fallen into a situation where he's desperate to not make a mistake and we're waiting for him to make one. He doesn't walk well either. He obviously isn't capable of 4 more years but has a good team behind him. In these uncertain times I don't think that's enough, you need someone who inspires and leads the nation.
He doesn't.

MorningSunshineSparkles · 10/02/2024 09:22

Trump and Biden are too old to run a bar let alone a country. But when the alternates over there are people like Kanye West and Trump I can see why people from the USA would rather Biden.

Please provide a reputable source for EITHER of those claims.

You wont be able to.

My morals aren't swayed by disinformation; yours are suspect.

@FrannieSaid trump very publicly admitted to oggling his daughters body and said if she hadn’t been his daughter he’d be shagging her… father of the year there 🙄

He does, though.

Republicans out there sucking up the credit for Biden policies they voted against, because they are scared of their dumbass MAGA constituents.

matrixxx · 10/02/2024 09:31

How could it have come to a situation where an 81 year-old, who is visibly confused and frail, is up against an insane 78 year-old who is the joke of the world? There are so many brilliant, inspiring people in America - how has it come to this? It's like the decline of Western civilisation, playing out before our eyes. America is losing any influence it has in the world stage and just becoming a bizarre spectacle - an utter joke. Scary stuff.

Have you confused @FrannieSaid with another poster. I don’t think she’s a Trump supporter. Or a Republican for that matter.

Fucking hell, did he?!

That is depraved. He needs to fuck off right now. Wanker.

Perhaps you could inspire us with an argument for another system that has been proven better, and been more positive for the people?

I'll wait. :)

matrixxx · 10/02/2024 09:53

FrannieSaid - I'm hardly arguing to do away with democracy. But something has gone badly wrong in the US, if this is what it produces. I think it's the age if social media - people live in echo chambers, self-select their own online discourses and society becomes increasingly fragmented and polarised, paving the way for lunatics such as Trump. Poverty and lack of education are also factors, obviously. There are too many people in the US who don't even have a passport or who have never left their state. This is what Trump can exploit. It's the same here with Brexiteers - Farage knew exactly who he was appealing to.

MorningSunshineSparkles · 10/02/2024 09:54

@RafaistheKingofClay I wasn’t trying to accuse her of being a trump supported, she said there was no evidence of their perverted ways though when there’s plenty of that in the public domain. I can’t link to public evidence about Biden, however trumps comments are widely reported.

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 10/02/2024 09:56

The Dems will only have themselves to blame if Trump becomes president again. Whether or not the record of Biden’s term is good (I’m happy to believe it is) it’s blindingly obvious that he’s just too doddery to re-elect. That was clear soon after the last presidential election.

What has his party been doing FFS?

If, as some on here have said, able people behind the scenes are running the show, why bother with a leader at all?

If Trump gets in, take comfort from the two-term limit.

She's been ALL OVER the US supporting reproductive rights, AND has traveled to many other countries in support of the Administration's policies. Do you legitimately NOT see any of that in the news?

The WH twitter account promotes her constantly, as does the WH you tube channel. The MSN in the US chooses to ignore her - but she's extremely involved - as opposed to that ghost Mike Pence.

Edited

Reproductive rights? Like the right to a legal abortion? Don't make me laugh.

We don't tend to see much of the VP on British news, because we are too busy watching youtube vids of Biden falling up steps, forgetting his lines and drooling.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 10/02/2024 09:58

It's utter madness.

Trump won because they didn't like Hillary.

Then Biden won because it was anyone but Trump.

And now? Will it be True because he's not Biden?

Remind me again how y'all completely fucked yourselves with Brexit?

MAGA - despite all the press it gets - has been electoral POISON since Trump won. Candidates he backed, 2022 backlash... it's been a loser since 2016.

Fuckers are "the dog that caught the car" on both abortion and the border.

Love to see it. :)

Once.

It's beginning to look like a habit with you.
