Just been watching the news about Biden's memory. He really needs to step down IMHO.

Speaking just as a Brit who doesn't spend lots of time watching the news as it's become so seriously depressing

TempestTost · 10/02/2024 21:27

US VPs aren't always in the foreign press much. But in KH's case I think she's been deliberately kept out of the limelight.

Talkinpeace · 10/02/2024 21:27

Kamala Harris has done a good job of the tasks she was given
BUT
she was a failed, like utterly failed, pres candidate when he made her a "diversity hire"

THere are some shit hot black women in the system, she ain't one of them,

YankSplaining · 10/02/2024 22:12

TempestTost · 10/02/2024 21:10

Yeah, she falls pretty much under "not presidential material." Some of the idiotic comments to come out of her mouth are pretty astounding.

Now Taylor Swift - I'm not sure if I'd be on the same page with her politics, but she might do alright, I think she's smart and extremely hard working.

Taylor Swift is ineligible for the presidency this election - she’ll still be 34 on Inauguration Day, and all US presidents have to be at least 35. 😀

Tiddlywinks63 · 10/02/2024 16:50

Obviously they do but they chose these two…..

Except they don't, the parties chose the people even though it's a minority.

It's not the same but similar in this country, labour and conservatives partys choose their leaders.

But the actual voters mostly are not members of any party.

Never knew this, if there is a younger age barrier - surely there should be an upper one 😂

Trump being a monster doesn't make sleepy Joe any less cognitively impaired.

Itwasmeinthebox · 10/02/2024 22:54

Anthony Blinken would be my man

Pallisers · 11/02/2024 00:11

And Obama ended up being a washout.

really? Obamacare or the AHCA was a huge step forward for the US and of enormous benefit to the the ordinary people of the US. It is interesting that even when the republicans had the house, the senate and the presidency they couldn't or wouldn't repeal it because americans - including americans who vote for Trump - like it (and because republicans don't actually have policies - just anti-policies so coming up with an alternative was impossible for them).

And Joe Biden being who he is (sleepy Joe is a Trump epithet - but you know that) doesn't make Trump any less of a monster - right?

Sladuf · 11/02/2024 00:31

No, you’re not unreasonable. It’s been pretty obvious for a lot longer than the last few months that his cognitive abilities are waning. As at least one other person has already mentioned the Democrats have done themselves no favours denying it.
Is Biden in his current state really how the man should be remembered? I think not.

I think it was pretty mixed. There were quite a few people who felt they were worse off. The ones I met fell into a few types: the type of plan they had before became unavailable or prohibitively expensive. Or, they had to pay for a plan but actually couldn't afford it. Or they could just afford the plan, but not actually afford to use it (because it involved co-payments which are common in the US.)

I also knew people who were helped, particularly people who could not get any insurance before because of pre-existing conditions. But it seems like a pretty mixed bag.

libbylane · 11/02/2024 04:42

I'm as left leaning as they come and if I was an American I'd be Democrat through and though, yet I think Biden needs to step down. Right now, even if it was only perceived decline, the reality is it will stop the undecided people from voting for him. I can't fathom another Trump win, nor how anyone could vote for Trump, but the Democrats have a huge battle to win if they want to stay in power.

As for Ms. Harris, sadly she's very unpopular outside of very left circles, so all the other votes they need in order to win, she wouldn't get.

I think the Democrats are feeling that there's no one else who would win or is well known enough to be Trump's opponent in the election.

BlueThursday · 11/02/2024 08:25

this is morbid but I think the plan is for Biden NOT to make it through his next term. It’s the only way to get a woman of colour as president

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 11/02/2024 08:48

I seriously doubt Biden will be used as Kamala’s Trojan horse.

HRTQueen · 11/02/2024 09:52

Wasn’t the rumour that this term during the campaigning last time that Kamala would take over mid term

its atomising that the Democrats have got to this point

Not intentionally perhaps; however the fact remains that if he becomes completely incapacitated - or worse - while in office then she's "it"

I agree with Sladuf about "Is Biden in his current state really how the man should be remembered?", but there's also the issue of what his state could well become (and there's only so much they can try to cover up)

Friedchickenrocks · 11/02/2024 12:13

SummerFeverVenice · 09/02/2024 22:53

He has sadly deteriorated significantly. It is a shame that Kamala Harris hasn’t stepped in and insisted he be assessed for fitness in office.

Would go to a vote and she'd need a majority of the Cabinet to agree with her. I think he'll be re-elected actually and will hand over to her mid-term.

Much better to have her than Trump, or whoever would be his VP and take over if anything happens to him (Trump's not exactly a spring chicken himself, and is most unlikely to choose a moderate VP).

That was the theory last election and didn't happen.

DisforDarkChocolate · 11/02/2024 15:31

If he doesn't die before the next election I think Trump will win.

The only way Democrats will see a president re-elected is if Harris takes over.

Abhannmor · 11/02/2024 15:51

Taylor Swift is very smart , young and hardworking. She would be a terrific president if you are a billionaire or imagine that you are about to become one. Which probably covers 75% of Americans.

Mittens1717 · 11/02/2024 15:58

thebestinterest · 10/02/2024 05:25

He’s an excellent President doing an incredible job.

yes he’s old, but try getting trump to speak sense on issues that matter. Not possible. Trump seems like he has no memory issues because all he talks is horse shit. He’s conditioned the world to expect horse shit from him. Don’t need to make sense when that’s all you got = horse shit.

Totally agree with this

Abhannmor · 11/02/2024 16:35

Spot on Mittens BJ had some of that strange magic as well. It like they press the Pause button on reality for a few seconds, fill it up with some gibberish and people forget they can't answer the question. Can it work twice though , when you've seen the man behind the Mighty Oz ?
