To think my lunch was not bad?

NameChange278 · 08/02/2024 15:39

Just chatting at lunch around food habits and failing to bring lunch from home - a colleague commented my lunch was unhealthy and too much salt and sugar as it was shop bought / ready made. I didn't think it was an unhealthy lunch:

  • shop bought salad - (Pret - Avocado & Crayfish)
  • a pear
  • small pack of popcorn
  • a coffee

For comparison she had brought a home made chilli and rice (leftovers).

None of her business really is it?

That's probably what I'd eat across a whole day at work rather than in one sitting but who really cares.

Pret salads can be quite calorie dense but very nutritious! I don't believe the sugar and salt levels would be higher than anything like a sandwich or a pre-made pasta/cous cous salad so a great option.

Again, don't listen to her! Not her place to comment.

Bridgetoo · 08/02/2024 15:42

That's a healthy lunch. She's wrong.

TheDuck2018 · 08/02/2024 15:43

None of her business and I'd be pointing that out to her! Your lunch sounds fine.

KreedKafer · 08/02/2024 15:44

Your colleague is a rude and judgemental twat. It’s none of their bloody business.

Also your lunch was perfectly healthy. Fruit and veg, healthy fats in the avocado, lean protein from the crayfish and some carbs from the popcorn.

Your colleague sounds like they’ve got food issues. Bit orthorexia-adjacent.

IncompleteSenten · 08/02/2024 15:47

Doesn't matter if your lunch was a tablespoon and a pack of rock salt, it's got fuck all to do with her.

Fromage · 08/02/2024 15:48

Your colleague should keep her snout out.

People who pass smug comments on others' eating habits are judgypants bores of the highest order and I hope her "healthy" lunch gave her the raging trots.

Unless this colleague has an ED herself, which prompted her comment, in which case v much hope she gets over it soon.

Nothing wrong with your lunch, not every meal HAS to consist of all nutrients in perfect amounts anyway.

StoneColdAlibi · 08/02/2024 15:50

That salad has got less than a quarter of your 'recommended' salt for the day, she sounds batshit

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 08/02/2024 15:50

This falls very clearly into the category of "none of her business".

deplorabelle · 08/02/2024 15:51

Some people are just insufferably proud of their ability to produce cooked food. Even if it's something as basic as chilli.

That's what you'd eat over a day? It's about 600 calories all in.

Do you not eat breakfast? Because if not a Pret salad, pear and popcorn is nowhere near enough food for a WHOLE day. I sense a bit of competitive underating.

FourLeggedBuckers · 08/02/2024 15:53

Shop bought… popcorn… caffeine?! 😱

I’m amazed you’re still alive after such an unhealthy and excessive lunch. I can feed the whole family for a fortnight with one of those salads…

Or, in other words, she needs to get a grip.

Caroparo52 · 08/02/2024 15:53

Just tell her to polish her fuckin halo but it was delicious

NameChange278 · 08/02/2024 15:55

Thanks for the reassurance. It has irked me a bit, as she seemed smug about the fact that she was able to bring a home cooked meal and basically saying no one can possibly source a half-decent/healthy lunch from a sandwich shop. I didn't really respond as I hadn't closely considered the nutritional content of what I had bought, but thinking now I don't think it was terrible.

I'm very short, have PCOS and life a fairly sedentary life. Coffee and fruit for breakfast, salad for lunch and afternoon snack is absolutely plenty. I then go home and have a decent dinner. Not undereating, just eating properly - it's not normal or good to be chubby everyone just pretends it is.

I've just had a Pret salad (tuna) and it was lovely but not that filling as it's a lot of leaves.

And I do feel a big smug on the days I can organise myself into bring a home made lunch, but it's smugness I reserve for myself for saving lunch money, not anything I would share with colleagues!

Replace the salad and pear with a sandwich and it'd sound fine. I'd probably swap the popcorn for crisps but whatever you prefer. Your lunch sounds a lot better than the colleague's anyway - she's probably just jealous and the health angle is the only way she can think to stick the knife in a little.

It was fine. Plenty of good fats in avos, protein in the crayfish. Fibre in the pear.

None of her business at all ... but was she eating red meat and white rice? The horror!

Workwhat · 08/02/2024 16:04

Does she not know it's massively rude to comment on others food?

I only eat in one sitting at work so there's nothing else other than this....its not the type of workplace where we can spread eating out over the entire day....I have breakfast and dinner or anything else at home.

She is probably jealous tbh. Leftovers are seldom scrummy even though they are practical /money savers . Nothing quite like a shop bought what do I fancy lunch.

She needs to beak out too.

Did you consider I might not be able to walk?

Pickingmyselfup · 08/02/2024 16:23

It's fine!

I had a whole small apple with some peanut butter for a snack followed by one protein bagel with parma ham, cheese, cucumber, philadelphia and mayonnaise.

Probably not the best if we are going to be pedantic, there are carbs, processed meat and fatty cheese and my peanut butter was just cheap supermarket stuff. However I liked it and it was much better for me than a bacon sandwich on white bread covered in butter which I'm always tempted by!

You were happy with your lunch, it might be shop bought but you could make something homemade that was much worse for you like mac and cheese. One of my favourite things but it's got a ton of fat and salt in so a shop bought salad is much better by far!
