To think my lunch was not bad?

Just chatting at lunch around food habits and failing to bring lunch from home - a colleague commented my lunch was unhealthy and too much salt and sugar as it was shop bought / ready made. I didn't think it was an unhealthy lunch:

  • shop bought salad - (Pret - Avocado & Crayfish)
  • a pear
  • small pack of popcorn
  • a coffee

For comparison she had brought a home made chilli and rice (leftovers).

Hmmm.... a peanut butter/ nutella combo.

I'm thinking Starbucks would probably patent it as a frappe flavour.

have you checked the nutrional content of the salad on the pret website?

Shop bought salads do generally have far more calories than you'd think is possible for leaves and dressings of whopping salt/sugar/bad boy content.

I couldn't find it on the website, but I looked on Uber eats, where it says it's a whopping... 322 calories.

WhamBamThankU · 08/02/2024 20:39

Look her dead in the eyes while you stir in 2 spoons of sugar to your coffee and 20 turns of the salt grinder over your salad tomorrow.

Nearlyspring23 · 08/02/2024 20:42

I hate to think what she would say about my 2 crumpets with peanut butter and chocolate spread.

IloveAslan · 08/02/2024 20:47

It's none of her business!!! People who feel the need to comment on what others eat - especially in regards to how "healthy" it is - are amongst the most boring people on earth. Also extremely rude.

Who cares - as long as you enjoyed it, that is all that matters.

Apolloneuro · 08/02/2024 20:47

I think giving unsolicited advice about people’s food is extremely rude

Who actually gives a shit? The day I start checking the nutritional content of everything I eat you might as well put me out of my misery.

Why can't people eat whatever makes them happy?

Itisnearlyspring · 08/02/2024 20:52

I would point out that her rice will be giving her a big glucose spike and she will need to do 30 min exercise post to mitigate it.

Doesn't matter if your lunch was a tablespoon and a pack of rock salt, it's got fuck all to do with her.

I love this response so much it deserves to be embroidered and hung on the wall in shared work eating areas.

Sounds like a delicious lunch. I only eat once too as it’s a school I can’t eat in class. I bring a salad with some protein plus an apple most days, sometimes with added bulgur wheat or rice or leftover pasta/ potato. Because yours was shop bought doesn’t make it bad.

AInightingale · 08/02/2024 21:04

She might get a dose of f.p. from eating that reheated day-old rice. Karma, OP.

BungleandGeorge · 08/02/2024 21:05

Just eating fruit and veg is definitely not eating ‘properly’ 😆
Your lunch was fine and none of her business. If you want a critique your lunch would be more balanced if you added a decent portion of carbs.

BCBird · 08/02/2024 21:06

She the food police?

Justifiedcheese · 08/02/2024 21:16

StoneColdAlibi · 08/02/2024 15:53

That's what you'd eat over a day? It's about 600 calories all in.

Edited

Competitive under eating is a well known MN sport.

But you might get faaaaat, horrors!

BCBird · 08/02/2024 21:20

Thinking try peanut butter and chocolate spread tomorrow

marshmallowburn · 08/02/2024 21:26

Peanut butter and nutella is the best. Tastes like a Snickers .

Dinax · 08/02/2024 21:28

YABU if you sit next to/near this bore again for lunch and if you don’t take a Mars bar tomorrow. Preferably a double one.

Moodicum · 08/02/2024 21:28

I mean I had a doughnut for lunch today then a lion bar for a snack. I am not chubby, am able to walk and am a Capricorn

UnctuousUnicorns · 08/02/2024 21:30

Bring in a pork pie, bag of salt and vinegar crisps, a jam doughnut and a mars bar tomorrow.

43ontherocksporfavor · 08/02/2024 21:35

Yes do what @UnctuousUnicorns says! 😂

Couldyounot · 08/02/2024 21:40

Your colleague is an idiot. Bet her chilli is one of those awful tasteless ones that's like a shit bolognese with kidney beans in, too.

LindorDoubleChoc · 08/02/2024 21:44

Your colleague sounds like a character from Smack The Pony.

BishyBarnyBee · 08/02/2024 21:46

Does she also lecture you about your carbon footprint? I think she may be a friend of mine!!

BetterWithPockets · 08/02/2024 21:47

I try to take my lunch into work with me but only because I resent paying pret prices and I’m struggling a bit financially at the moment! But I wouldn’t dream of commenting on someone else’s lunch (unless it’s to say that looks/smells delicious). Your lunch sounds perfectly fine to me.
