To think my lunch was not bad?

Just chatting at lunch around food habits and failing to bring lunch from home - a colleague commented my lunch was unhealthy and too much salt and sugar as it was shop bought / ready made. I didn't think it was an unhealthy lunch:

  • shop bought salad - (Pret - Avocado & Crayfish)
  • a pear
  • small pack of popcorn
  • a coffee

For comparison she had brought a home made chilli and rice (leftovers).

I'd have said this is nothing. I'm having doughnuts for tea, washed down with a tub of chocolate ice cream and a nice cold glass of wine.

ThereIbledit · 08/02/2024 17:53

She had chili with RICE? 😱for a SECOND DAY ON THE TROT??? That's so unhealthy, Everybody knows that's going to spike her blood sugars and give her diabetes over time!!! And RED MEAT?? She's a walking heart attack waiting to happen!!!!

watermelonsugar56 · 08/02/2024 17:54

She’s an idiot, your lunch sounds really healthy to me. Hers sounds a lot “worse”!

fonfusedm · 08/02/2024 17:54

it's not normal or good to be chubby everyone just pretends it is.

Looks like the colleague has turned up, get a life!

I'm also bemused as to why eating the salad/pear/popcorn and coffee at lunch time or spread out throughout the day makes any difference to a certain poster. I dont' often snack between meals, so that would be my lunch all in one go too.

headcheffer · 08/02/2024 17:55

Not the point of your post but I had a Pret salad today. The falafel one. I bloody love their salads.

GreyCarpet · 08/02/2024 17:57

Tbh, I wouldn't buy a shop bought salad esp if it had a dressing for many reasons.

Home made chilli is fine.

But, as everyone else has said, it's fuck all to do with her.

God, I love falafels. Never get enough of them, tasty little balls of flavour 😋
OP, your lunch sounds delicious (and healthy), wouldn't fancy hers though!

GrandHighPoohbah · 08/02/2024 17:59

It's really none of her business, but given she started it, I would have been tempted to reply "But you're still eating red meat? Aren't you worried about your cholesterol levels?"

sprigatito · 08/02/2024 18:00

@getofftheplane you got exactly what you asked for. Don't dish it out if you can't take it.🤷🏻‍♀️

It's generally a really bad idea to make unsolicited comments about other people's food. If this were my co-worker I would just peg her as having no social skills and ignore whatever came out of her gob.

iklboo · 08/02/2024 18:01

'When you're buying or proving my lunch you can comment. Until then it's none of your business, is it?

Topseyt123 · 08/02/2024 18:04

Your lunch sounds fine to me. Tell her to wind her neck in.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 08/02/2024 18:06

Of course your lunch was fine OP. As you are already aware .

I'm very short, have PCOS and life a fairly sedentary life. Coffee and fruit for breakfast, salad for lunch and afternoon snack is absolutely plenty. I then go home and have a decent dinner. Not undereating, just eating properly - it's not normal or good to be chubby everyone just pretends it is.

Until your last sentence I was agreeing with you but then you spoiled it by sounding incredibly judgemental and self-righteous!

Exactly this.

londonloves · 08/02/2024 18:10

So rude to comment on someone else's food end of

Starchipenterprise · 08/02/2024 18:12

Your salad was healthy, pret food normally is.

IllHaveAPinotGrigioPlease · 08/02/2024 18:17

This is the sort of comment which would make me bring in a McDonald’s for lunch tomorrow, even if I didn’t fancy it. But I’m a bit of a knob sometimes 🤣

AccidentallyFabulous · 08/02/2024 18:19

OP, your lunch sounds great. Colleague should keep her nose out.

However this from a PP:

Leftovers are seldom scrummy even though they are practical /money savers .

Is all kinds of wrong. Leftovers are delicious.

'Away and bile yer heid' is a whole sentence. ☺️

Speedygonzales78 · 08/02/2024 18:21

She'd have a field day with some of my colleagues 😬🤣

SameBreakfast · 08/02/2024 18:23

people who make unsolicited comments about others’ eating usually have lots of issues with their own food and weight. It is very tedious isn’t it.

bryceQ · 08/02/2024 18:25

Massive competitive under eating. I would hate a colleague to make any comment about what I am eating, it's really weird and not her business. Plus that's a really healthy lunch you had

PoshHorseyBird · 08/02/2024 18:27

Regardless of what your lunch is, it's absolutely none of your colleagues business!
If that was me I'd be tempted to sit down tomorrow with a jar of Nutella and a tablespoon, just to see her reaction!

Mrsttcno1 · 08/02/2024 18:44

This thread has really made me laugh because there must be one of these colleagues in every workplace!🤣 We also have one, she comments on everybody else’s lunch “oh I couldn’t eat that I’d be too full for dinner, oh that’s too big a meal for a lunchtime, oh that’s far too much pasta/rice/potato”, and yet she sits all day snacking mindlessly on share bags of sweets and crisps, biscuits, chocolates, scones, coffees… easily consuming probably 2 or 3 times the calories in everybody else’s “lunch” which she “couldn’t possibly eat”. And all of us are too polite to say anything back to her so every day we have the same saga😂
