Wow. What a shock

I don’t think anyone ‘begrudges’ KC swift and effective treatment for his condition. Some PP’s are just pointing out the inequalities in our society. I hope KC makes a speedy and full recovery.

Agreed, I also hope all others diagnosed with cancer the same...

Right, so it's cancer of something else but they are not saying what. Which will lead to more speculation etc

I expect there will be a further announcement when they've moved a bit further along the assessment/staging/grading and decided on a treatment plan. He might need to go back in, and with this announcement they don't really have to explain further. Unless and until he is ready to give more information.

it seems quite likely that it's something spotted early during his recent hospital stay - some possible candidates would be mass in the genito-urinary region, skin lesion/suspicious mole, or blood

No-one said it was.

Then why post it here?!

ColleenDonaghy · 05/02/2024 19:04

A relative was diagnosed with early but aggressive bladder cancer during follow up for prostate cancer. Both cancers were treated promptly on the NHS, and that's in NI where wait times are far worse than the rest of the UK. The treatment was straightforward as these things go with minimal side effects.

I'm not a royalist but I admit I do feel for William with all this, he mustn't know which way is up between his wife and his dad being seriously ill. I know the practicalities will be taken care of but the emotional side is the same whoever you are, and any serious illness in his dad must carry extra foreboding.

Willmafrockfit · 05/02/2024 19:05

and he is still working through his treatment just not face to face

SisterMichaelsHabit · 05/02/2024 19:06

I wish him well and I hope he makes a good recovery.

I do think people need to stop banging the drum on this thread about how amazing the NHS is for cancer though based on one person they know. It's been well-documented the UK has some of the worst survival rates in the world for some cancers, and there are many people whose cancer treatment got chucked out of the window during Covid. It's not fair on those suffering from shit access to healthcare in the postcode lottery to say we all get amazing healthcare in the UK. Some people really do wait 6 months or a year for diagnosis before that fast treatment they always trot out in the NHS PR. The wait time to diagnosis is what kills a lot of people because cancer is easier to treat with better survival rates when caught early.

I can understand why some are annoyed about this. They are basically being told their life is worth less than someone else's due to structural inequalities they can't do anything about.

None of that is HRH's fault though and I really wish the best outcome for him.

Christmasusernamepending · 05/02/2024 19:07

Devastating news. I hope he recovers quickly.

Saladcreamdreams · 05/02/2024 19:07

There's a prediction that Harry will become king.

Charles dies, Kate and William decide to live as quietly as they can to give poorly Kate a calm and stress free life. Harry and Megan move into Buckingham Palace

Its pretty bad that Harry has opted out in view of this very difficult time for the royal family. Time he either opted back in or gave up his titles and his place in the line of succession.

Similarly people need to stop banging on about how the King will get the best of the best treatment privately. It’s not his fault.

Some of the vitriol (not your post) on this thread and bitterness isn’t appropriate.

I wish anyone who is diagnosed with any serious life threatening illness, the best treatment possible 🥰

How dare you say that? Do you personally know Harry's feelings towards his father? To suggest that if a man dies his son would cry crocodile tears is contemptible.

CombatLingerie · 05/02/2024 19:09

Yes@SisterMichaelsHabit I agree with you.

He's more than welcome to his place in line - no promotions for Andrew thank you.

Thegreatestoftheseislove · 05/02/2024 19:09

The diagnosis is a body-blow shock for anyone - pauper or King. I'm sure he's has the swiftest intervention and will get the very best of care but he's still a 'normal' human being and will be a bit stunned for a while. Wishing him well but more, and whilst not begrudging him anything, wishing there was equality of care and access to the best of the best therapies and drugs for all.

He still works at 75, probably works harder than a lot of people albeit in a gilded cage.

And he’s completely facilitated in his work by everyone around him!

2dogsandabudgie · 05/02/2024 19:10

QuestionableMouse - Much more quickly than who? There are timescales that the NHS work to regarding cancer treatment. If you have an operation you have to wait a certain time to recover if you need chemotherapy, the same if you then need radiotherapy afterwards. I would imagine that those recovery times are the same if you go private.

firethene · 05/02/2024 19:10

All credit to him for revealing this to raise awareness of this condition.

Raisinf awareness but the type is kept secret?

Some posters are really showing themselves up with their nasty and vicious remarks.

If you are so anti-monarchy why would you even open up the thread? To chuck some horrible spite and bile? Says a lot about your character!!

The cynic in me says it’s so Harry can make sure he’s seen by fans as a hero racing to the rescue.

Oh here we go.

QuestionableMouse · 05/02/2024 18:02

There's always one 🙄

frostyfeet · 05/02/2024 19:10

As are most people who work at a senior level. What's your problem? You think he should do it all himself???

Cloudbuggi · 05/02/2024 19:13

Why are people all "I bet he won't have to wait months for treatment". Of course he won't. He's the King. He's not going to be being treated on the NHS. If he was there'd be an absolute outcry.

Everyone I have known recently with cancer has received extremely speedy treatment on the NHS, incidentally.

Winberry · 05/02/2024 19:13

Wish him well with his treatment and hope he makes a full and quick recovery.

Admire the openness of the recent statements on his health and todays one. Great to raise awareness, and perhaps help those people who would like to share their own diagnosis but hold back (and also help their families).

But I am finding the radio discussions even just in this first hour too much, like gossip, and speculation, which just felt a bit uncomfortable to me.

Flopsythebunny · 05/02/2024 19:14

HeddaGarbled · 05/02/2024 18:14

Eh no doubt he'll have the best if everything. I feel more sorry for normal people that I do him tbh

What an unpleasant response.

I guess having to wait months for treatment for aggressive breast cancer can be unpleasant?
More and more people on my breast cancer group are in this position and it's getting worse

usernother · 05/02/2024 19:15

I wonder if Huw Edwards is watching all the BBC coverage and wishing it was him doing it. TBH it's not the same without him.
