Wow. What a shock

I wish the Royal Family did not exist. But I feel for him as a dad and grandad. And for how scared and powerless he must feel right now. I feel no more or less sorry for him than any other stranger who gets this diagnosis. I hope the treatment works, and that he does not suffer too much.

SurelySmartie · 05/02/2024 18:40

I do like the bad tempered old thing but get in car, be driven to event, say hello lovely to see you all, get in car, be driven home, is not exactly hard work is it? Not like what most of us do on here where we’re worked to the bone.

He apparently skips lunch and does paperwork into the night. He has to prepare for meeting people so that he can talk to them knowledgeably. He has to travel which is probably tiring enough in their mid 70s.

I think you are massively underestimating it. I cba meeting strangers, shaking hands, talking to them and smiling at them. Fair play to them all.

CombatLingerie · 05/02/2024 18:54

I don’t think anyone ‘begrudges’ KC swift and effective treatment for his condition. Some PP’s are just pointing out the inequalities in our society. I hope KC makes a speedy and full recovery.

MamaGarl85 · 05/02/2024 18:54

The simple fact is whatever you think of the Royal family he is a human being who has just been given a difficult diagnosis and a little kindness goes a long way!

I wonder how some of those making these comments would feel if that was their family being talked about in that way!

I wish him well and hope he recovers. But I can't help but think about the thousands of other people who will have been diagnosed with cancer today, who won't have the luxury of private medical treatment and no money worries.

Thankfully, the NHS generally provides great treatment for free.

justasking111 · 05/02/2024 18:55

They've never said publicly but Phillip disappeared for a long period I suspect he was quite unwell but he licked it so fingers crossed Charles will too.

2dogsandabudgie · 05/02/2024 18:55

SloaneStreetVandal - Rich people die from cancer as well you know. If someone needs chemotherapy it's the same treatment. They don't have a special one with no side effects reserved just for the rich and famous.

BigFatCat2024 · 05/02/2024 18:55

The actual announcement for anyone who hasn't seen it

The king has cancer

I bet he'll be treated much more quickly though.

I don't think it's unreasonable for people to reflect on the inequality aspect of this, tbh. Charles won't be on a dangerously long waiting list, he won't have to beg for drugs and basic care, he won't spend any nights in agony on a trolley in a crowded corridor. Of course people are going to comment on that.

I don't wish him or his family any harm, but I don't particularly care what happens to him either. He isn't a force for good in society and he has no personal relevance for me. I have relatives with cancer who may die early deaths because of poor care and lack of resources; the contrast is stark, and it's not wrong to say so.

All the causes and charities he supports and he's not "a force for good in the world" - really?!

What good are you to the world, spouting nonsense online?

ilovesooty · 05/02/2024 18:57

I'm not a royalist and think far too much is spent on the Royal family but wish him a good recovery on a human level - he's a husband, father and grandfather.

I've had to switch the BBC off though. The sycophantic tones of Nicholas Witchell are off the scale already.

Tracker1234 · 05/02/2024 18:58

The NHS doesn’t have a 6 month wait for cancer.

Yes, this

MyopicBunny · 05/02/2024 18:46

It's not unpleasant. Plenty of people get fobbed off for years with symptoms and end up dying. A woman in her 30s died of lung cancer recently that I know and she has two small children. The king will be able to get the best treatment etc.

I certainly don't wish ill on him and I hope he gets better but the country is in a state with 'ordinary' people no longer able to get essential NHS treatments.

It's not a fair situation.

That isn't the King's fault...!

TheBayLady · 05/02/2024 19:00

HansSolo22 · 05/02/2024 18:43

King or not, he's still human. Yeah he's got money and the best medical care available, but he's still got feelings and a family and he's facing something frightening. I have just watched my mum lose her fight to cancer so maybe I'm more sensitive to this but maybe those with the mean comments could just be a bit kinder?

I am so sorry your mum didn't make itFlowers

YABU to be 'shocked' that a 75 yo has cancer. Confused

Iam4eels · 05/02/2024 19:01

MyopicBunny · 05/02/2024 18:53

I agree. The Queen's cause of death was never revealed.

Her birth certificate was released not long after her death and the cause of death was listed as old age. Old age can be record as a cause of death if the doctor certifying it has cared for the deceased for a long time, was not aware of any disease or injury that contributed to their death and has observed a gradual decline in their general health and function (which is a natural part of aging). The doctor who certified her death was her personal physician in Scotland.

PurpleFlower1983 · 05/02/2024 19:02

Good on him for putting this out there. I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

As would anyone with private health care.

Is Huw Edwards when you need him...

DillDanding · 05/02/2024 19:02

People might focus on the perceived inequality, but I have 2 family members with cancer, and their treatment and the timings of it, have been exemplary.

Some posters conflate not wanting a monarchy with wishing them poor fortune. He’s still a person, loved by his family and respected by many. I’d be first in line to vote for a republic, but hearing a cancer diagnosis is never something to revel in.

QueenBean22 · 05/02/2024 19:02

Whatever his prognosis he won’t have to wait weeks for scans and treatment like my Dad had to. And will have everything thrown at him

Felicia19 · 05/02/2024 19:03

Oh and God forbid anything happens too soon, the crocodile tears of Harry will be a sight to behold

Charles is his dad, whatever has happened. They won't be 'crocodile tears.'

Don't wish him ill but don't care either. He protected Savile and others.

He did not "protect" Savile - he was taken in by him as were many others who didn't know what he was up to!! And you had to tell us you don't care - nobody gives a monkeys how you feel!
