Wow. What a shock

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 05/02/2024 18:28

It might feel strange to feel unsettled by this news, but oddly I feel the same but probably because someone we know died young from cancer and his always been around in my life. Plus I'm getting on a bit myself now , so it has a different feel than when you are younger.
I'm sure he'll make a full recovery and have the best care etc, but it's still a nasty thing to deal with and he is 74.

Yirk · 05/02/2024 18:29

Sad news, hope they have caught it early, wish him well,
Harry on the way to UK to see his dad apparently, hope they reconcile.

HelenaCh9 · 05/02/2024 18:30

Sarah’s skin cancer was found by accident when her breast cancer was being operated upon. I think they’ve both been fortunate in a sense. Earlier diagnoses.

When I saw the footage of Charles leaving hospital last week I thought he looked pretty healthy. Obviously I was wrong.

I am no royalist but I hope he trounces this. I do feel for him. It’s a frightening time for him.

BBC reporting that Harry will be visiting this week.

LetsgoLego · 05/02/2024 18:30

I said this on the deleted thread in chat but I wish him a speedy recovery and hope Harry makes moves to reconcile, cancer aside he's 75 and not getting any younger.

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 05/02/2024 18:30

I wish him well, he's my employer!

Mama1980 · 05/02/2024 18:30

Such a shock. I wish him well and hope he makes a quick recovery.
Fwiw my mum has recently been diagnosed with cancer she was seen within two weeks, diagnosed in three days and then started treatment immediately.

How embarrassing to be someone who would post this.

I know what you mean.
Can I ask how old you were when you started feeling that way?
I have suddenly reached that unsettling time in my life.

I don't think it's unreasonable for people to reflect on the inequality aspect of this, tbh. Charles won't be on a dangerously long waiting list, he won't have to beg for drugs and basic care, he won't spend any nights in agony on a trolley in a crowded corridor. Of course people are going to comment on that.

I don't wish him or his family any harm, but I don't particularly care what happens to him either. He isn't a force for good in society and he has no personal relevance for me. I have relatives with cancer who may die early deaths because of poor care and lack of resources; the contrast is stark, and it's not wrong to say so.

A fair statement

Willmafrockfit · 05/02/2024 18:03

oh dear, i hope it is treated quickly,
poor william though

I'm sure he will. Not like "us" who have to wait weeks/months

ToHellBackAndBeyond · 05/02/2024 18:32

That's very sad news. I hope it has been found in time for a happy outcome.

BoobyDazzler · 05/02/2024 18:32

Poor Charles, imagining waiting for a job for your whole life and then getting ill a couple not years after getting it!

I wish him well.

HRTQueen · 05/02/2024 18:33

He is 75, in good health and has the absolute best health care so likely caught early

It’s just been announced that Harry shall be coming over to visit him that shall leave many disappointed …

SurelySmartie · 05/02/2024 18:33

IANAD (I am not a Doctor)

What was the point of putting the anacronym if you were going to write it in full?

the80sweregreat · 05/02/2024 18:33

To be fair , most people I know who had a diagnosis or symptoms of cancer were seen within two weeks with the NHS.

LetsgoLego · 05/02/2024 18:34

I hope Meghan swallows her pride and comes with Harry and they bring the children with them

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 05/02/2024 18:34

I’m not a monarchist by any stretch, but it’s quite a refreshing difference from the old Queen and Philip.

Hold up. Am I understanding your post? Refreshing? It’s refreshing that the new guard’s sick unlike that boring, always healthy, old guard? You need to dilute that schadenfreude.

My cousin was diagnosed with cancer two weeks ago and my friend's sister in law died of it yesterday. I'm sick of feeling sad. I wish Charles all the very best.

The NHS treats cancer quickly. My dad was diagnosed in late 2021 (so peak COVID when everything was struggling).

He was seen within two weeks and operated on within the month.

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 05/02/2024 18:22

Can’t be nice for him but it’s not the same as if it was a normal person juggling everything, with no money and servants etc.

Exactly. I truly dont understand all the handwringing. He's not got to try and juggle the food shopping, the kids uniform, the cooking, a full time job, financial worries. Yes it's his father and he'll still want to be there for his children and nothing takes away the emotional impact but there is absolutely no domestic load to carry.

the80sweregreat · 05/02/2024 18:36

I honestly can't see Meghan or the grandchildren coming over. Might be better if they stayed away to be honest , it'll just turn into a circus if they all show up
( especially with the daily mail .. )

Acatdance · 05/02/2024 18:36

Ah, poor old Charles. His kingship has been dogged with family strife, and now this. I hope it might prompt a reconciliation with his younger son and DIL and that his treatment goes well.

He still works at 75, probably works harder than a lot of people albeit in a gilded cage.

They mean refreshing that they're being more open and transparent about illnesses.
