Very sad.
Thank goodness his postrate was looked into and they found this other issue … just hope it’s been caught early enough and is removable without any lasting issues.

It's a prostate.

No but people put the royal family on a pedestal as it they are

I think most normal people in possession of half a brain realise that they are just human beings too, when all is said and done.

Laughing at the thought of him sitting up in a NHS bed with his crown at a jaunty angle on his head.

"Laughing..." - what a horrible thing to say.

doilooklikeicare · 06/02/2024 22:48

Thank you @MrsPatrickDempsey I had to stop myself saying that on the numerous threads about the "prostrate"!

I was shocked. I was on the phone to my sister at the time, and she was also shocked. My 20 something daughters who aren't particularly fans of the RF were also shocked!!

Why wouldn't you be?!

I don’t understand why people are so shocked. What’s so shocking? Genuine question…

My mum was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer I September. She has her first appointment with her oncologist at the end of this months-a 6 month wait to see someone, not even to start treatment!!

You need to fight fight fight and push to get treatment. I wish I had known how much when my mum was diagnosed upwards of 20 years ago now. Just don't take no for an answer x

Interesting that they said it was a benign issue when they announced his planned surgery.

I think this hints at a very early diagnosis, hopefully.

I read an article actually that said some prostate cancer is caught so early it’s almost too early to treat, so you stay in a wait and watch pattern. Though obviously I don’t suppose that would be the case for the King.

I don't suppose the royal prostate is any different to anyone else's in that regard.

doilooklikeicare · 06/02/2024 22:51

@mayorofcasterbridge none of which are reasonably be shocked...

75 year old make had cancer.....

It's not shocking at all

mayorofcasterbridge · 06/02/2024 22:52

Whatafustercluck · 06/02/2024 07:52

Sorry for him, as I am sorry for all those diagnosed with cancer. A very good friend died last year with a very aggressive form of cancer. This time a year ago she was enjoying the trip of a lifetime to New Zealand, where she fell ill. She had no idea she was dying.

The King will have a regular full MOT - multiple cancer screening tests which will likely have picked this up early. He will have the very best care, whatever his prognosis, and I wish him the best.

I am simultaneously thinking of all those others with cancer who are being treated, or waiting to be treated, in a hugely overstretched NHS. And if the King needs palliative care, I'm fairly certain it will be very much better than the palliative 'care' afforded to my friend.

No, I'm not a monarchist. But nobody deserves this. The only difference is that he will receive the very best care and stand a far better chance of a full recovery than most.

Edited

That is so sad but how lovely that she got to experience her trip of a lifetime x

3luckystars · 06/02/2024 22:52

Well money can solve everything. I feel very sorry for them all. They have had a turbulent few years.
and now 2 of them are seriously ill.

I hope Kate makes a full recovery, and that Charles treatment goes well too. What an awful time for them.

Who are you to tell me to be shocked or not? I was, the rest of my family was!

But then we're caring people, not callous and unfeeling!

LoveLifeBeHappy · 06/02/2024 22:53

ILoveMyCatButHesAPervert · 06/02/2024 11:34

Yes. Why not?

Why would someone worth $2.3 billion use the NHS? I wouldn’t.

Exactly! We would all go private if we could!

doilooklikeicare · 06/02/2024 22:56

@mayorofcasterbridge so which of you are caring and which of you are callous?

Because you thought different things, so you've got a callous family is what you're saying?

I'd just say sone of your family are realistic and some dreamers!

Money can't solve everything. If it could the Queen and Prince Philip would still be alive!!!

Please do not be so disingenuous. ALL of my family were shocked, including my young adults who aren't particularly fussed about the royal family, while we as the older generation, like the tradition without being ardent royalists the way some people are. We are ALL caring.

TG all of my family have empathy, and are capable of being shocked when someone we know or know of, gets bad news.

You are the callous one IMO.

doilooklikeicare · 06/02/2024 23:01

@mayorofcasterbridge again why's it shocking a 75 year old man has cancer?

He's not the number because he happens to be royalty!

I'd be shocked by one of the royal children having cancer.

So stop telling me I'm callous because I'm not shocked!

I'm not shocked, because it's not shocking!!

Same here. Both our DDs were at our home when it was announced on the 6pm news yesterday. They came with their DH/fiance (one's married, one's engaged,) and all six of us were having dinner together that evening ...

All are 27-30, and ALL are not Royalists. Just ambivalent. Not haters, not lovers of them. We were watching the news together whilst we were waiting for dinner.

They all gasped in shock when the news was announced about King Charles, and were like OMG! Shock

Everyone I know in real life has been taken aback by it and is quite shocked. Only on mumsnet have I seen people who are being nasty and rude about King Charles, and saying they don't give a shit about him, along with a small amount of people on Twitter.

.

RickDaglass · 06/02/2024 23:02

That’s disappointing as he is very popular and was the queens favourite son. How else did he manage to get hold of £15M and pay off the lady.

Would they have been shocked by 75 year old Bill next door having being diagnosed with cancer?

It was unexpected??? He's been on the throne for such a short time? His parents seemed to live forever?

I get that… But, he’s mid-70s. His mother should have stepped down earlier to give him a chance.

I still don’t see why this is shocking.

Diskneedisney · 06/02/2024 11:39

I’m so glad you got seen soon and more so that it was benign, what a relief for you!

sadly I think now you roll the dice with the nhs, sometimes you have good care like with yourself and speedy referrals and other times you don’t and when you don’t, people can die or at least have worst outcomes and I think that’s the point. A man like Charles is guaranteed the best possible chance whereas joe average rolls the dice and therein lies the unfairness. I don’t think you could deny the nhs is in a dire state thanks to this government and the consequences have been deadly for many. Our health care system has gone from being one of the best to quite far behind on many key metrics such as stroke and cancer treatments.

re the chemo, my dad compared with the nhs and he couldn’t have that at home. Now don’t get me wrong, I think for the most past at home chemo is a luxury but I was just pointing out that the treatment can differ private to nhs. Then their is also the access to treatment overseas not licensed in the UK that Charles will have that someone not of exceptional wealth would

My mum had some hospital chemo and some chemo at home in the form of medication. That was nearly 18 years ago, can't believe that! She only got 2 sessions of hospital chemo before she became too ill to continue and died less than 6 months after diagnosis, still a relatively young woman.

We really didn't have the best experience with the NHS in many ways, but I wish the King all the best, because what we went through was nothing whatsoever to do with him. There would be something wrong with a country not providing the best of care, especially as he will be paying for it, to its Head of State.
