This happened to someone I know, diagnosed lung cancer, the hospital faffed and um and ahhed for 6 months over starting chemo dates, but person got an infection and died before any treatment

Why are people complaining charles is having private medical treatment? Would you rather he was treated on the NHS?

Yes. Why not?

2dogsandabudgie · 06/02/2024 10:26

Diskneeddisney - But that's not true in all areas, last year I had a suspicious looking mole, did E consult and had a phone call within 24 hours and a GP appointment within 48 hours. I was referred to dermatology under the 2 week pathway and seen within that 2 weeks. Fortunately it was non cancerous.

The problem is we only ever hear when people have bad experiences because my excellent experience above of the NHS isn't newsworthy.

I’m so glad you got seen soon and more so that it was benign, what a relief for you!

sadly I think now you roll the dice with the nhs, sometimes you have good care like with yourself and speedy referrals and other times you don’t and when you don’t, people can die or at least have worst outcomes and I think that’s the point. A man like Charles is guaranteed the best possible chance whereas joe average rolls the dice and therein lies the unfairness. I don’t think you could deny the nhs is in a dire state thanks to this government and the consequences have been deadly for many. Our health care system has gone from being one of the best to quite far behind on many key metrics such as stroke and cancer treatments.

re the chemo, my dad compared with the nhs and he couldn’t have that at home. Now don’t get me wrong, I think for the most past at home chemo is a luxury but I was just pointing out that the treatment can differ private to nhs. Then their is also the access to treatment overseas not licensed in the UK that Charles will have that someone not of exceptional wealth would

how terrible!

there was a lovely woman on here too, beautiful woman called Pamela, dreadfully let down by the system too, a lot of time wasted with her too, sadly she passed away

Yes. Why not?

Then people would moan that he's taking up valuable NHS resources. He can't win 🙄

Pottedpalm · 06/02/2024 08:35

If they are continuing to test, could it be that they are not sure yet what they are dealing with? Has she seen other specialists?

Yes, that's a part of it however, there have been delays at every stage.

I’m so sorry, the uncertainty of an unknown primary cancer must be difficult for you all. I work in oncology and we have a consultant dedicated to treating unknown primary cancer , do you know if you have access to this?

Have they managed to take any biopsies from your Mum? Is she symptomatic?

Edited

Thank-you for your reply. Yes she's had biopsies taken, they've established that it's in 5 areas of her body but can't find the origin. Hopefully we'll feel better when we've had things explained to us by the oncologist.

@WithACatLikeTread the throne isn't given in the will?

It is automatically given to the eldest son.

P.S not sure if you are replying to the wrong poster?

In 2013 the law was changed; the throne goes to the eldest CHILD, regardless of sex.

Oh give over. Then people would moan he shouldn't be using NHS resources when he has the means to pay for private treatment.

If I had the money I'd go private.

Yeah sorry I forgot that. In some countries it is still the son. Think I was a bit tired last night! 🤣

This happened when he broke his arm and went to the local A&E. People were complaining they had to wait longer because he took a space up etc.

Been there, done that! A few nights ago when I set up the coffee to auto brew I managed the filter and the water, but forgot to put in the coffee! DH woke up to a pot of hot water!

@WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout

Love your username and I'm very grateful for the well wishes.

Zzzmumzzz · 06/02/2024 17:50

I wish him well. His treatment will be first class. No NHS waiting list or delays for him.

Meagainnewname · 06/02/2024 17:57

QuestionableMouse · 05/02/2024 18:02

Got a credible source for that?

It’s been all over the news!
🤣

JMSA · 06/02/2024 17:59

Whilst I don't care, I wish him no harm and hope that he makes a full recovery.

LaDamaDeElche · 06/02/2024 17:59

Similarly people need to stop banging on about how the King will get the best of the best treatment privately. It's not his fault I couldn't agree more. Kind of ironic that these same people don't see how good they have it compared to many others with cancer, thanks to the lottery of life that allowed them to be born/live in the country they are in. Also, are we supposed to be against all people who can afford private treatment, or just royals? What about people who get private healthcare through their companies, or well-off people who can afford it (do we have to sub categorise them into of they've earned that money it inherited it before we can be more or less sympathetic?). Cancer doesn't discriminate and it's a horrible, painful illness and just as scary for the patients, family and friends of people from any walk of life. I don't understand why people say this kind of thing.

Buffs · 06/02/2024 17:59

Sorry, genuine question, why is it unsettling? I am in my mid 50s with incurable cancer. I get on with life and avoid drama and sympathy! Lots and lots of people get cancer and yes people die, especially people over 70. Why all the drama? It helps no one.

Meagainnewname · 06/02/2024 17:59

Comedycook · 05/02/2024 18:04

Yes it must be a hard time for him. Such a shame he and his brother are no longer close... especially during times like this.

Hopefully they’ll call a truce and bury the hatchet for Charles sake,

My mum was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer I September. She has her first appointment with her oncologist at the end of this months-a 6 month wait to see someone, not even to start treatment!!

yes same as my friend, cancerous mole, she’s been waiting 18 months for removal, she’s finally got a date for removal x

That is appalling. I hope she'll be OK. Best wishes to everyone here and their loved ones who are going through this.
