I wish him well and I hope he makes a good recovery.

I do think people need to stop banging the drum on this thread about how amazing the NHS is for cancer though based on one person they know. It's been well-documented the UK has some of the worst survival rates in the world for some cancers, and there are many people whose cancer treatment got chucked out of the window during Covid. It's not fair on those suffering from shit access to healthcare in the postcode lottery to say we all get amazing healthcare in the UK. Some people really do wait 6 months or a year for diagnosis before that fast treatment they always trot out in the NHS PR. The wait time to diagnosis is what kills a lot of people because cancer is easier to treat with better survival rates when caught early.

I can understand why some are annoyed about this. They are basically being told their life is worth less than someone else's due to structural inequalities they can't do anything about.

None of that is HRH's fault though and I really wish the best outcome for him.

Edited

100% this. It feels for many like the worst of the battle is getting to a GP and the various other hoops to get to a diagnosis.

Because if it hadn't been so damn hard my Dad would probably still be alive. Bladder cancer, for those of you trotting out how treatable it is, and not an iota of a symptom until eight months before he died. But four months to get a diagnosis.

Wishing your DIL and anyone going through a new cancer diagnosis well 🙏

Thank you.

Not trying to derail the thread, but it's worrying and I appreciate all good thoughts, even if not expressed on the thread.

fleurneige · 05/02/2024 20:42

Annoying to have 2 threads on this- could they be merged, please

This

You can feel sorry for multiple
people with cancer. You don’t have to just feel sorry for those people who have less money. It’s okay to have sympathy with people in different situations.

Why is it when there are issues for the royals someone always has to declare they don’t care because the royals have access to xyz? I’m not a particular royalist but Jesus.

Itsdifferentnow · 05/02/2024 20:44

He has been so good about telling everyone that he went for prostate treatment so that men would be encouraged to go forward for treatment.

I am so sorry the cancer has been found. I understand it is not in the prostate. This is almost a pity since one would think it might respond well to treatment if it were there. At least it has been seen early, I hope, since it was noticed during his operation, so it may be possible to get rid of it without too much discomfort.

I hope it is an early stage and the King will respond well to treatment.

Advice400 · 05/02/2024 20:44

I do hope they've caught it early because of the way they've found it via treatment for a separate issue. Although I'm sure the treatment will be brutal, as most of them are.

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/02/2024 20:45

I wish Charles a speedy recovery. He is our head of state. Of course he should have the best treatment… we all should.

SkulkHollow · 05/02/2024 20:47

Honestly, I don't care.

My mum has been on a waiting list for over a year for major heart surgery while her quality of life gets worse every day.

Meanwhile some unelected spoilt rich man gets right to the front of the queue and blanket media coverage. Yeah, I don't want anyone to get ill but why should I give a fuck about Charles being sick?

FFS

STOP the OT rubbish and talk about what the thread is about - it should be in the Royal forums

I understand our king has prostate cancer. Whilst no cancer of any form is not good news, prostate cancer often is slow evolving and by all accounts the docs were aware of his enlarged prostate - they caught VERY, very early

Wishing our King Charles a speedy recovery!

It's not prostate cancer.

It is not connected with his recent surgery and is not prostate cancer.

It was noticed when he underwent his medical procedure for an enlarged prostate.

The cancer is a separate issue. He has begun 'a series of regular treatments'.

Similar for my dad, who's also the same age as our beloved monarch. It's hard watching him struggle with breathlessness, lack of energy, stress etc while we wait for a surgery date to finally come through.

All credit to him for revealing this to raise awareness of this condition.

How exactly do you raise awareness of a condition you've kept secret?

Everyone is referred for cancer assessment under the two week rule on the NHS. It's not about jumping the queue ahead of others, he's probably got private treatment anyway.

I have wondered from the start given his age etc. Why they haven't just gone straight to William

To miss out Charles and go straight to William would have required Parliamentary legislation while the Queen was still alive, which she would have had to give the Royal Assent to. Can't imagine that she, or Charles, or William, would have wanted that, or that any PM would have had the nerve to suggest it.

I should think William and Catherine are hoping that they won't have to take on the job until their children are quite a bit older.

Diskneedisney · 05/02/2024 20:57

frostyfeet · 05/02/2024 19:37

I thought Charles was quite into woo stuff like homeopathy?

He may well be, but I doubt at the expense of orthodox medicine, likely he’ll have access to the best surgeons, oncologist and cutting edge treatments the rest of us prols wouldn’t be able to dream of

No it's about him receiving a standard of care, privacy and dignity that is denied to everyone else because of a bullshit belief that he was appointed by god.

If the NHS is so fucking amazing why isn't he being treated in the NHS on an open ward where it's impossible to sleep or have any dignity?

Maggiethecat · 05/02/2024 20:59

possibly bowel cancer if discovered while they were looking at his prostate - just my guess.

wish him well but no more than the thousands of other cancer patients afflicted by the disease.

the80sweregreat · 05/02/2024 21:00

If they did put him on an NHS ward with the usual ' care' most people get , the cost of the sec

Emeraldrings · 05/02/2024 21:01

I hope I'm wrong but I don't think it sounds good. Think they said on the BBC that Prince Harry is flying over.
I know it's his dad but I literally can't imagine him coming unless King Charles was really sick.
Feel sorry fo Prince William, although he's got loads of help, its a hell of a lot to deal with.

the80sweregreat · 05/02/2024 21:01

Posted too soon
.. the cost of his security would be off the scale.
You'll never win regardless of what they did with him in regards to treatment that he is paying for himself anyway.

He has prostate problems, bound to be cancer.

Not at all, most prostate problems are benign.

Lucky Harry. The Montecito Moaners have been wracking their brains as to how to get back in the RF now that their transatlantic Moanfest has run its course.

Many people have private health insurance. If you have PHI would you choose to use the nhs ? No, i don't suppose you would.
