Wow. What a shock

OP posts:

It has been reported in the past that the King did champion alternative therapies at one stage in his life and so has the Queen, but I would bet money , he won't over this!

doilooklikeicare · 05/02/2024 19:40

@WithACatLikeTread the throne isn't given in the will?

My god - if you’re on mumsnet you can Google BBC! Not sure how some people on here manage to write their own name sometimes

Right….?!?

The first thing I did when I saw this thread title, was hit google.

It actually takes less time to do that, than to come onto this thread and type out ‘got a credible source for that?’ inanities….

But he may use them as part of the sum total of his treatment, just not in isolation.

I do like the bad tempered old thing but get in car, be driven to event, say hello lovely to see you all, get in car, be driven home, is not exactly hard work is it? Not like what most of us do on here where we’re worked to the bone.

Seriously, you think that is all a monarch does????

Willmafrockfit · 05/02/2024 19:48

Fionaville · 05/02/2024 19:16

In the nicest possible way, I'm sure he's got a much better chance of recovery that 99.9% of the people diagnosed with the same cancer.
It's a shame, I hope he recovers. As I would any other person.

we dont know what cancer, it could be a mole

The palace has confirmed

The cynic in me says it’s so Harry can make sure he’s seen by fans as a hero racing to the rescue.

Disgusting comment. This is his FATHER. It’s not Easternders. It’s a real family. I feel so bad for H&M because if they come, it will be a circus.

The media and many people in this country are disgraceful and have no heart. Will you lot not stop your Take A Break magazine bullshit for 1 min?

Creatureofhabit87 · 05/02/2024 19:51

So have many other millions of people in the world!!

I doubt it. My dad's been battling skin cancer since the 90s. He's had loads of melanomas. He's never had more than a day off work.

peakygold · 05/02/2024 19:54

My money is on testicular cancer. Or rectal. It must be in a 'personal' place because why else would they keep that detail from the announcement?

Abouttimeforanamechange · 05/02/2024 19:56

The first thing I did when I saw this thread title, was hit google.

No need even to Google. The BBC has it's failings, but if I want confirmation of a major news story, I go straight there.

As for whether the King is a force for good, the Prince's Trust, which was entirely his own initiative, initially funded with money he earned though his service wth the Royal Navy, has helped thousands (tens of thousands?) of young people.

His passionate interest in environmental issues has been helping to raise awareness for decades, since long before most people had heard of climate change.

He loves gardens, music and art, all of which are good things, and commissions new work.

Waiting for H&M to be blamed. “The stress they put him under must have triggered it..”

Oh for sure! Or headlines criticising Harry if he doesn’t arrive in the UK quick enough for the shit press of which there are so many here!

The DMail will already have a raft of headlines ready to stick the boot in.

A relative was diagnosed with early but aggressive bladder cancer during follow up for prostate cancer. Both cancers were treated promptly on the NHS, and that's in NI where wait times are far worse than the rest of the UK. The treatment was straightforward as these things go with minimal side effects.

I'm not a royalist but I admit I do feel for William with all this, he mustn't know which way is up between his wife and his dad being seriously ill. I know the practicalities will be taken care of but the emotional side is the same whoever you are, and any serious illness in his dad must carry extra foreboding.

Like you I think it would be bladder cancer . I also see a turning point with openness . The secrecy with the royals of the past has led to so many being shocked that they are just like any other family and will have health problems . This show of human frailty is a good thing . The public should see them as just like them .

I don't own a TV!

Eh no doubt he'll have the best if everything. I feel more sorry for normal people that I do him tbh.

I think most people feel sorry for ANYONE who is diagnosed with cancer, whoever they may be.

Well said

rainbowbee · 05/02/2024 20:01

On an aside, it was commendable that he went. public about his prostate issues. My dad has the same problem and unlike many men will actually go to the doctor. It's normal for anything in that area to be embarrassing. So in my dad's case it's thankfully just a benign prostate issue, but if something's sinister like cancer in the area, the sooner you start treatment the better. I hope other men of his vintage take that on rather than ignoring problems simply because literally no one wants to drop their trousers in a doctor's surgery.

feellikeanalien · 05/02/2024 20:02

A cancer diagnosis is a horrible thing for anyone, whether or not they are a member of the RF. When you hear the word cancer it is scary. It sounds as if this was discovered as a result of his prostate surgery so hopefully was caught early.

Cancer killed my DP and my Dad so I know how awful it can be.

As for comments about Harry that is really low (and I say this as someone who is not a particular fan of his). Whatever his relationship with his family he has just been told his father has been diagnosed with cancer. I know what that is like and of course his first instinct would be to want to see him. I really hope the tabloids don't use this as an excuse to bash him.

DriftingDora · 05/02/2024 20:05

Saladcreamdreams · 05/02/2024 19:07

There's a prediction that Harry will become king.

Charles dies, Kate and William decide to live as quietly as they can to give poorly Kate a calm and stress free life. Harry and Megan move into Buckingham Palace

..and there are fairies at the bottom of the garden. Look up the Rules of Succession.

Noangelbuthavingfun · 05/02/2024 20:06

Very sad for him and the family... and I don't mean this to sound insensitive but I have wondered from the start given his age etc. Why they haven't just gone straight to William - of course I know it's his birth right but still. Hope its nothing too serious as they are not staring what type of cancer it is

Twadelling · 05/02/2024 20:08

Oh no, hope he recovers. He’s only human.

SendOver · 05/02/2024 20:09

I feel more sympathy for the ordinary man in the street being diagnosed with cancer than I do him.

YABU to be 'shocked' that a 75 yo has cancer. Confused

Really?? I was very shocked when my dear aunt was diagnosed with cancer in Dec aged 76 and died 4 weeks later
YA the unreasonable one 🙄

the80sweregreat · 05/02/2024 20:12

Of course some of the press will bash Harry and Meghan , they blame them for most things.
I just hope he can visit his Dad in private and the cameras / press keep away ; but they probably won't.
