Be honest - would you send DC private if you could?

If your DC is at a state school and you were offered free places for them at the local indie, would you accept? If so, why? If not, why not?

YANBU - Yes I would send them private
YABU - No I wouldn’t send them private

Me - yes I would, in a heartbeat (DD at state primary).

Yes I would. We live in Trafford so lots of competition for schools here and I am happy with the teachers and the school ethos and experience however, they seriously need investment in the facilities. My dd is in Year 8 and just last week the school was shut for 6 days due to gas main repairs. When there's severe rain/wind it's had to shut for repairs or because classrooms have been damaged.
I think it must be so frustrating for the staff because it is honestly a great school in every other way it just needs a shit ton of cash to bring its facilities up to date.

State schools are a reflection of the community they're in. If all kids went to school engaged with supportive parents, then even the lowest funded schools would be good.
It's hard for the kids who want to study if they're in a school where the majority aren't that engaged. My dn was regularly called teachers pet and other names. Luckily, she was able to move to a better school.
It's a huge job to tackle that as there often all sorts of social and other issues behind the disengagement.

Schools need adequate funding to teach. You can have the most supportive engaged parents, but that won’t make a school good when the school can’t afford to pay teachers salaries, can’t afford teaching materials, can’t afford to heat the building in winter, can’t afford to fix the roof or the rotting concrete causing roofs to collapse, can’t afford to have a working flush toilet, can’t afford art, music, sports lessons, can’t afford any choices at GCSE,..
