Did my comment deserve ridicule?

Have name changed as anyone in the group I posted in will know it’s me if they see this.

Basically a band I love have just reunited and the fans have been eagerly awaiting tour dates. One date has just been announced in London. I posted in the comments that I was excited for the gig but hoping they put on another show maybe in central London.

The comment received a mixture of laughing and angry faces and endless comments such as “Typical Londoner” and “What about people who live miles away from London!” Etc

I replied saying I was not suggesting that all dates should be in London, what I meant was if there was a gig in central London it would be easier for people from all over the UK to get to. I continued getting harassed over it so I deleted the comment but some arsehole screenshot it and reposted it so the comments and laughing continued.

Im so upset by the whole thing it’s put me off going to the gig at all and it’s ruined the reunion for me, I know it sounds daft but it has really got to me. I feel totally ridiculed.

I’ve just told DH about it and he laughed and said he’s not surprised I’m getting stick for it!? Was it really such a bad thing to say?!

What makes you think central londons easy for everyone to get too. There's already a gig in London go to that.

ChanelNo19EDT · 27/01/2024 18:21

Not worthy of ridicule, no!

I once asked on my town's local forum what time the cobbler closed mid day. The comments were astonishing. I'm glad I entertain a few halfwits

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 27/01/2024 18:22

Nothing silly about what you said.

I'd be more likely to travel from home (Devon) to see something in central London, and yes, it would be easier, hotel booking etc as I'd plan more activities outside of the gig.

WhatWhereWho · 27/01/2024 18:23

It does not sound too bad a comment but I think that perhaps if this has made you not want to go to the concert posting on these pages might not be a good thing for you.

OhmygodDont · 27/01/2024 18:24

I mean if they are already preforming in London saying you hope there is another in London is a bit 🧐

I live in a commuter area for London and I’d rather travel anywhere else in the country for a show than London. Every bloody thing is so London London London. I don’t want to have to sit on a crammed train to get on a tube and book a travel lodge for London.

Id rather go further afield and make a thing of it frankly.

Kittylala · 27/01/2024 18:25

I kinda see their point. Is the original date in London so difficult for you to reach? You weren't thinking about the rest of the UK though were you because why on earth would you care about the UK?

goodgriefsean · 27/01/2024 18:25

Tbh I'd probably roll my eyes if only one date had been announced and it was a London gig then someone saying the next gig should be more central London. As someone living in the north of Scotland central London is definitely not 'easy' to attend and we often get forgotten. But I wouldn't comment or take the piss just privately think you were a bit blinkered. Edit you should of course still go,unless it's a tiny fan community it's not like people at the actual show are going to recognise you and whisper about the London Facebook lady! Don't be daft and miss out on something you're excited for because of a misjudged comment to strangers.

SkaneTos · 27/01/2024 18:25

Of course you should go to the gig! Don't let them ruin the reunion for you!
Have fun!

midgetastic · 27/01/2024 18:25

Suggesting that central London is a significant improvement on outer London for someone elsewhere in the country is a little blinkered

Presumably performing in London works out financially for bands which is why they do it 🤷‍♂️. It sounds like you got on the wrong end of a pile on from resentful people. I would ignore them.

MorningSunshineSparkles · 27/01/2024 18:29

The rest of the UK are rather fed up of London and the special treatment it gets so perhaps the ridicule came from people thinking you need a reality check on how unrealistic London is for the majority of the population.

Peoplemakemedespair · 27/01/2024 18:30

OrigamiOwls · 27/01/2024 18:15

There's no need for quite the level of ridicule, but also the rest of the UK does get a bit fed up with so many things being London centric. There is a whole country outside of the M25, which is frequently forgotten about.
You've already got one gig on your doorstep, look on the bright side.

This really. I’m assuming the ops inadvertently come across as a bit snobby. There are places in the uk other than London, and there’s already one in London. Though I don’t get why she’s so mortified about it to the point she’s not going now. I thought this was in a friend group chat and her mates were being nasty to her, not a bunch of randoms she doesn’t know

Gazelda · 27/01/2024 18:30

Your post might have come across as a bit daft. And self-centred.

But not ridicule worthy.

And the mocking and snide comments are equally unworthy of a second thought.

Don't let a few comments spoil the event for you. That would be a ridiculous over-reaction.

Isseywith3witchycats · 27/01/2024 18:33

Another concert in central london is certainly not easily doable for people outside of London, we live in West Yorkshire and when we went to Hyde Park to see Bob Dylan, between tickets, train fares, food and a hotel it came to close on a thousand pounds for the weekend, iron maiden at Manchester arena cost us tickets and petrol nearer £200 a bit of a difference

AutumnBride · 27/01/2024 18:34

Username917778 · 27/01/2024 18:16

Well yeah, we don't all live in London. They are doing one date in London and you've asked for them to do another date in London lol...

Absolutely, London isn't remotely easy to get to from the north, expensive by car and extortionate by train never mind booking a hotel.

It's easy to get into central London from outer London because of the investment in infrastructure London gets.

Allfur · 27/01/2024 18:34

Morningsunshine - do you speak for the rest of the UK?

Nellieinthebarn · 27/01/2024 18:34

Having moved from SE with easy access to London, to the arse end of nowhere, I now see how London centric everything is. And I can see why the rest of the population get a bit miffed. However, no need to be nasty about it, just ignore the nasty comments, and appreciate living in the centre of the universe 😂

ThatsMeThatIs · 27/01/2024 18:35

Gladness · 27/01/2024 18:11

No it’s the band’s fan page

No it’s the band’s fan page

This makes more sense now. I assumed it was said in a WhatsApp group full of your friends or something.

Yeah I can kind of understand why people got a bit angry tbh.

People get fed up with everything revolving around London in general, and I say that as a Londoner myself!

But it's a bit weird you'd let it put you off going Confused

maudelovesharold · 27/01/2024 18:39

If it’s not even people you know, can’t you just treat it as ‘banter’ and forget about it? It’s not like they’re all going to gang up on you at the gig. They’re obviously exasperated fans who don’t live anywhere near London! I most certainly wouldn’t let anything like this put me off going. Is it maybe that you feel that your shared love for the band unites you with other fans, so some of them turning on you for what you saw as a benign comment is more hurtful?

DropItIndeed · 27/01/2024 18:40

If they’re already doing a London gig, I can see why another one probably isn’t top of people’s lists. But you’re taking things far too personally- it’s just some online randoms. I wouldn’t give it another thought.

Noseybookworm · 27/01/2024 18:45

It's a bunch of strangers on the internet. Their opinions don't matter! It's just mob mentality. Don't let it get to you, they have deliberately 'misunderstood' your comment so they can enjoy being part of the bitchy pile-on. They're a bunch of losers, not worth your time or getting upset about!

Mirabai · 27/01/2024 18:45

You’d have got the same on here OP, well you already have. London = the metropolitan elite.

Mirabai · 27/01/2024 18:48

AutumnBride · 27/01/2024 18:34

Absolutely, London isn't remotely easy to get to from the north, expensive by car and extortionate by train never mind booking a hotel.

It's easy to get into central London from outer London because of the investment in infrastructure London gets.

You could always move there and take advantage of the infrastructure?

StopTheBusINeedAWeeWeeAWeeWeeBagOChips · 27/01/2024 18:48

I wouldn't have posted anything, but I would have laughed to myself tbh.

London definitely isn't easy for everyone to get to at all.

Don't let a few Internet randoms ruin your gig.
