Just that really, those of you who have children under school age. Do you work, or do you stay at home? Or work part time? My youngest won't start school until 2026 so I'm considering giving up work and having the rest of the time full time at home with her as my income makes very little difference to the household.

Those who stay at home, do you enjoy it?

I have 3 DCs, eldest at school, middle at home/pre-school 2 days a week and youngest at home / looked after by grandparents whilst I work 2 days a week till 4pm; term time only. Its prrfect balance of time with kids and work, plus term time saves a fortune on childcare. When my youngest turns 3 i plan to go back 4/5 days a week.

@Oliotya I had no idea only women who earn megabucks in male-dominated roles could be feminists?!
Thanks for clarifying that for me.

If spending all day with kids makes you a feminist, why isn't being a SAHM also feminist?

BreeBacon · 01/02/2024 21:33

LorlieS · 01/02/2024 21:29

@BreeBacon Absolutely I am.
What do you suggest? 😂

I don't suggest anything as it's not my place to tell people how to live their lives. Maybe you should take a leaf, if you're going into psychology. God forbid someone with opposing views should inadvertently end up as a client.

LorlieS · 01/02/2024 21:33

@Oliotya Eh?!!!

IMO not reducing people down to gender stereotypes makes you a feminist.

My male partner is more of a feminist than many of the women in this thread.

Rather look after other peoples kids for a buck, than look after her own. SO progressive.

Working mums are also looking after their kids.

Happy to help.

LorlieS · 01/02/2024 21:36

@BreeBacon I'm not "going into psychology". My first degree is BSc Human Psychology (Hons). A Masters always comes after a first degree btw.
But thanks for your concern.

LorlieS · 01/02/2024 21:38

@BreeBacon You really are vile.

You haven't worked in Psychology, so yes you will be going into Psychology. And I am about as vile as you.

Some of us want to earn our own money than live off a sugar daddy. Very progressive.

I don’t think anyone on here has a sugar daddy.

I look after my kids when I’m at home alone with them.

My partner looks after the kids when he is at home alone with them.

We look after them together, equally, when we are both home.

They go to school; when their teachers act in loco parentis.

Do SAHP look after their kids when they are at school?

indigoskies · 01/02/2024 21:43

@LorlieS - I did pursue my career, but when I had my own children, I wanted to put all my energy into them, rather than other peoples children and particularly, their parents! I felt I had more to offer my own kids, because the paid work, valuable though it is, is constantly stymied by admin and and a culture of everyone constantly covering their own backs, rather than acting in the interests of the children. Many / most get burnout and ultimately, I just didn't want that for myself. I didn't want to feel split in two. Also, the money was fairly irrelevant, so that was not a factor. I felt as if I'd done enough, frankly. I was a SAHM for 20 years, 4 DC inc. twins. No regrets at all. Now I do something totally different and it's on my own terms.

😂Sugar daddy.....

My husband and I got together at university. I worked for many years before we had the kids. It just so happens his career took off and I have been able to be a SAHM as a result, which I love and prefer.

turkeymuffin · 01/02/2024 21:49

AlltheFs · 26/01/2024 16:52

Why can’t you retrain and do something better paid @DontBeTight?

If you can afford some time at home as a SAHP you could use it productively to get a better paid role.

I’m public sector so never going to earn a fortune but I’m content on my £60k ish pro rata as it’s flexible to fit around family life and I can support myself and DD if it all goes to shit.

This.

Fine not to go back to that particular job.

Not fine to give up on working forever and plan to be financially reliant on a man or the state.

Use the time to train in something then you can build yourself a better life with or without DH.

Actually I haven't been rude up until this point. YOU have been very condescending and vile in many of your comments towards me, along with others.

Like all bullies, they don't like it when they get it back.

You know you were implying that my children are being looked after by someone else other than their parents; when in actual fact I am with my children almost every moment they aren’t at school - the exact same as they would be if I was a SAHP.

No, I did that myself and continue to do so, having the spare time being a SAHM and all.
