Sorry if I’ve missed any threads on this.

It’s not just sky news reporting this but for days now in the media this is being raised.

AIBU - to be extremely worried and concerned about this?

Is anyone else not worried?? Are we being prepared ready as “the higher up” know more and the threat is bigger than we’re told.

what age would it be from and to??

l‘m so scared for the world our children are growing up in 😢

Time to 'think the unthinkable' and consider UK conscription, says Britain's former top NATO commander

General Sir Richard Sherriff tells Sky News that even if Russia is defeated in the war against Ukraine, it is going to remain determined to rebuild another empire, subjugate Ukraine, and then move on to other ex-Soviet countries, like NATO members. Tha...

Tbh it just makes a joke of what people fought for in WWI and WWII that nothing in reality has changed and we’re still just going to war and not progressing! It’s a disgrace.

Some of us grew up with parents badly affected by World War 2 Some of The Silent Generation are still alive you know. My DM is 88 next month. She was EIGHT when she was working the fields in Italy because my grandfather was in the Italian army.

Oh and while im at it google the Arandora Star. There were Italians who were living here rounded up by Churchill and put on that ship Then it was torpedoed. And some of those Italians had younger relatives who were in the British Army at the time. Their thanks for that was their relatives being killed.

https://www.mariner.ie/the-sinking-of-arandora-star/

Wasn't it the Germans that sunk it though?

JenniferBooth · 30/01/2024 13:34

The Arandora Star was supposed to have Red Cross markings Apparently they "forgot" You didnt read the article obvs

SootBusters · 30/01/2024 18:12

Jennifer Booth, what am I missing here? The Arandora Star was sunk by German U boats. We were at war with Italy. The ship with 800 POW's on board was massively unfortunate but we were at war, we were thinly stetched and didn't have the man power or resources to take care of them. This was 100% the fault of the Germans. Aside the fact they started the war, they actually sunk a boat with Red cross markings. Maybe partly the Italians fault for getting involved an killing my great uncle. It was war, it's never pleasant.

Do you think that your sons would be allowed to leave?

Yes, the writing would be on the wall long before this came into effect (they are underage now and we aren’t mainland U.K. so think we’re probably safe anyway).

Your user name is hysterical given what you said.

Nala and Simba fought Scar to save their land and people.

The idea of a war broke out you could just move is unrealistic.

🤣 I’m not really a cartoon lioness….

Which I’m guessing you’re not (you just sound really petty and pathetic with your little snipes at randoms on the internet).

Trust me, I am seriously badass when it comes to looking out for my DSs. I wouldn’t lift a finger to save someone like you though 😁

''Whereas here we have innocent postmasters jailed and driven to suicide for simply doing their job.

Some of us took our rose tinted glasses off a while ago''

Just a thought: did anyone look into the postmasters/mistresses who were NOT affected by the scandal - if there were any, that is?

wrong thread
this is about conscription

llizzie · 03/02/2024 14:37

Prunesqualler · You are absolutely right, of course. That is obvious, but someone used it in connection to the thread, to illustrate their point, so I do not think it out of place.

raspberryjuiceandpompoms · 10/02/2024 00:22

Highly recommend watching Tucker Carlson interview with Putin. Granted, you have to divide by half what Putin is saying but you will understand a bit more about the boogeyman and the way he thinks.

And yet ever worsening overpopulation is one of your biggest issues. Not the opposite

Yep, and past wars have kept that population down. Not a comforting thought.

It's just this heinous sort of thinking which make this type of person doubtful at best as to their worth of another to risk their life for

SimBa123UK · 29/02/2024 15:34

So this poll is basically 50/50 if the OP is being unreasonable, or put another way, your guess is as good as anyone else.

The 'choices' if/when citizens, are ordered by their government to take the biggest risks for...usually 'freedom' is what gets wheeled out, are:

  • Go to war - that's appealing

  • Go to jail - that's appealing

  • Go abroad ( assuming this is an option, unlikely for most ) leave your life you've built over your lifetime with a strong likelihood this is gone if you go back to this post war - that's appealing

Either of these means your life will likely never be the same post choice and possibly or probably, depending on the rose tint of your glasses, for the worse.

The UK may follow Sweden and Norway by making conscription equal, although most women likely won't enter the infantry even though strength isn't required to pull a trigger, so will be doing support roles.

Those who believe this report was an exercise in pressing the government for military spend are blissing themselves with ignorance it seems, as even if this one report had this as it's intention, the idea is being drip fed into the wider media by others.

Likely estimated consequences of choices and please add if others not included:

Go to War -

if male, dismemberment, disfigurement, torture, burned, PTSD, death, deaf, blind etc
if female, PTSD, possible physical damage from collateral warfare, rape, loss of spouse, Son

Go to Jail -

Male - beatings, rape, murder attempts, conviction on record when out, vilified by public
Female - beatings, murder attempts, possible rape by wardens, conviction on record, public vilified though likely less

Go abroad -

Similar for both sexes

People need to consider their options and decide their reasons as this will likely impact the rest of their lives in an enormous way.

People need to make their own hearts and minds up NOW.
