My DC will decide for themselves but I am not prepared to be taken over by Putin. I am not prepared to live in a state ruled by fear.

We need much more investment in our defence forces and considerably less wasted on cushy deals for friends of the government.

The government can just cancel your bank account if you step out of line. Either your husband and/or son joins up or you all end up on the street forever.

If it were to happen (which it won't), that's how it would happen.

I bet all the transmen would suddenly be female again if it meant they avoided war.

I think they were right. Obviously violence is the worst resolution but sometimes it's the only one. Try and preach pacifism to Putin or any of the any number of extremists out there - Al Queda, ISIS, Hamas, etc.

I think for me it boils down to the fact that if it's sending troops to fight someone else's war then no thanks, but if it's about defending our own land and way of life as it certainly won't be the government or king I'm fighting for then I'd happily take up arms.

The reason people won’t accept conscription is because unlike the people of WW1 and 2, we have a different perspective and, well, cynicism, thanks to being more aware of world events and the politicians and rich men who cause them.
Unless the enemy are literally on our shores, civilians as soldiers are a liability.
We’re also much more litigious.
