Sorry if I’ve missed any threads on this.

It’s not just sky news reporting this but for days now in the media this is being raised.

AIBU - to be extremely worried and concerned about this?

Is anyone else not worried?? Are we being prepared ready as “the higher up” know more and the threat is bigger than we’re told.

what age would it be from and to??

l‘m so scared for the world our children are growing up in 😢

Time to 'think the unthinkable' and consider UK conscription, says Britain's former top NATO commander

General Sir Richard Sherriff tells Sky News that even if Russia is defeated in the war against Ukraine, it is going to remain determined to rebuild another empire, subjugate Ukraine, and then move on to other ex-Soviet countries, like NATO members. Tha...

I dunno. I’m at the point now where I’m wondering if the Russians could do a better job of governing the country that the pile of arsewipes currently not even trying to pretend they give a shit about us.

Why don't you invite some of the soldiers round for dinner? You know the ones who raped, tortured and castrated civilians.

Aside from the obvious people not wanting to fight because of fear or whatever there is also the moral issue in that there would be swathes and swathes of people who would object on humanitarian grounds (modern day conscientious objectors of which I imagine there would be thousands if not millions more than during the last war).

This.

Hell will freeze over before my boys fight. I have 2 older teens & a pre-teen & it just would never happen, I'll see them in jail first.

If being occupied by Russia is preferable to being here then can you return so you’re happier?

spicedlemonpie · 25/01/2024 21:28

WAR IS COMING PEOPLE.
And i dont care.

Gettingbysomehow · 25/01/2024 21:29

I'll be sending DS to live in the tropics with Dsis. No son of mine is going to be canon fodder.

ChedderGorgeous · 25/01/2024 21:29

For those saying "my sons won't be fighting", if it came down to it, they just would. They would be forced to. Its likely that if it got to that stage, public opinion would be completely different and most would volunteer given the dire situation.

Justpontificating · 25/01/2024 21:29

In ww2 low level prisoners could join up to avoid prison and some prisoners were offered early release if they joined up.
Prisoners are considered unreliable and as such they would not just be sent to war en masse.

This stuff bugs me, it’s not like he has faced a war (unless he was in armed forces)

Cincinnatus · 25/01/2024 21:29

I’m not worried about it because it won’t happen.

Naptrappedmummy · 25/01/2024 21:29

tiredmama23 · 25/01/2024 21:26

@Naptrappedmummy
Well several people have pointed out that women wouldn't be exempt from this if it happened. And women also fight on the frontline in the infantry. So they'd not just be among men.

Nobody on this thread can say if they would or wouldn’t be but it’s very unlikely. Women would be expected to engage in the war effort but as infantry they would be massively ineffective and a distraction. Do you mean in the British army? I think at present we have a grand total of 50 odd women in the infantry, so ‘women fight in the infantry’ is stretching it a bit.

Posypointshoes · 25/01/2024 21:29

@soupfiend sorry should have clarified, lots of fear whipping up on reddit etc, different in tone to this one. Probably not the case, but there has been so much meddling with elections andwhatnot, it just made me wonder.

He wouldn’t be allowed to leave.

tiredmama23 · 25/01/2024 21:30

@Naptrappedmummy

It's not stretching anything, women do fight in the infantry.🤷‍♀️ the number is irrelevant - the statement is still a factually correct one.

dayswithaY · 25/01/2024 21:31

Are people talking about a land invasion? Surely that’s unlikely (and difficult) as we’re an island.

You can be a conscientious objector, most people in WW2 didn’t go down this road because of the shame and fear of being called a coward. But no one cares now.

Failing that, can’t you just say you’ve got anxiety/depression?

Seems like someone’s stirring up trouble.

Thank Christ for that.

Cheshiresun · 25/01/2024 21:31

All those saying "my children won't fight" etc. Do you think in past wars, parents wanted their children to be called up? Of course they didn't. I have ancestors who did just that in both World Wars at very young ages and got killed. If everyone refuses, what then. But it's okay if it's others that killed but not your own?

And this one. Does fighting in Ukraine appeal more to you?

Did you know that Russia has a higher adult literacy rate than the UK?

It sounds like the solution is that you just moved to Russia im sure they can find you a job with that mentality of yours.

soupfiend · 25/01/2024 21:32

What Ive learned from this thread is that Russia is a great place to live.

Fabulous

I agree with the theory but
That would be desertion
Better to stay and make a case against fighting and war as a conscientious objector.

They wouldn’t be jailed. They would be picked up for service and if they deserted they wound face a rather harsh punishment via court martial. If it was as simple as reclining in a cell for a few years everyone would do it.
