Sorry if I’ve missed any threads on this.

It’s not just sky news reporting this but for days now in the media this is being raised.

AIBU - to be extremely worried and concerned about this?

Is anyone else not worried?? Are we being prepared ready as “the higher up” know more and the threat is bigger than we’re told.

what age would it be from and to??

l‘m so scared for the world our children are growing up in 😢

Time to 'think the unthinkable' and consider UK conscription, says Britain's former top NATO commander

General Sir Richard Sherriff tells Sky News that even if Russia is defeated in the war against Ukraine, it is going to remain determined to rebuild another empire, subjugate Ukraine, and then move on to other ex-Soviet countries, like NATO members. Tha...

I've noticed more advertising for joining the army on YouTube ads and bus shelters. The ads make it sound like some sorta summer camp. Can't tell me that's not engineered.

None of us want our husbands and sons to risk their lives, but we all want someone else's husband or son to do it. And there aren't enough of the latter group.

tiredmama23 · 25/01/2024 21:22

It would likely be seen as an opportunity to make amends for their crime. I would have no problem with this.

Well surely the success of this would depend entirely on how rehabilitated they are by the point of their release and how much their risk of reoffending has reduced. Some may welcome the opportunity for making amends, others would use it as an opportunity to access further victims.

I understand he’s still serving but retiring in the summer

Serving as what? Looks to me like he finished his advisory role in 2014? Do you have a source?

I know, it’s a combination of utter delusion and a total lack of understanding of anything outside of their specific bubble.

That's interesting as I think the same about the people holding the opposing view. Utterly clueless as to the reality of other people's lives outside their own little bubble.

@Superstar22 what's a dead cat? Sorry, I'm probably being very stupid. I'm looking after my nephew at the moment and very sleep deprived!!

Throw a dead cat on the table.
So people have to talk about it.
See Boris Johnson for that
A distraction

LatteLady · 25/01/2024 21:22

Gen. Sir Patrick Sanders is due to retire this year, it is expected that the out-going chief of the Armed Services uses the time before he goes to stir up and try to get further funding fo the services. This is the only time he can do it, as there are no consequences for him as he is retiring. Yes, our armed service model is decreasing, but this is just his way of putting the armed services front and centre of the conversation. And reading this thread and watching the coverage, that is precisely what he has done.

I dunno. I’m at the point now where I’m wondering if the Russians could do a better job of governing the country that the pile of arsewipes currently not even trying to pretend they give a shit about us.

Wow

You really have no idea

Careful what you wish for

WinterMorn · 25/01/2024 21:22

@EasternStandard thankfully, there are quite a few rational and balanced people on this thread who can see past the trolls, bots and agitators.

Posypointshoes · 25/01/2024 21:23

I'm also idly wondering (not about you OP - this isn't a dig at you) how many threads on various forums of this kind of ilk - worrying about conscription, are actually being set up by Russian bots...
I think right now we must look very weak - and they do keep tabs on our forums, websites, news etc, they'd be foolish not to. Information has always been a weapon, and in this day and age it's accessed so easily and given so freely on the internet....it's also the best way to change peoples' minds or manipulate the way they think, propaganda has always been used this way and now we have such easy, open channels for it.

Dead cat bounce

Their value as a soldier would likely outweigh the worry over reoffending, they’d mainly be among men anyway. Men with rifles.

Posypointshoes · 25/01/2024 21:24

@cakeorwine thank you for explaining!

To be blunt, rehabilitation won’t matter if there is a shortage of able bodied men being sent abroad to fight a land war.

Im not sure I buy into this

What does hearing me moaning that I cant fight because of my sciatica or peri menopause mean for Russian political and military strategy?

Most of our men are now women anyway so 🤷‍♀️

They can fuck off if they think my children are fighting in any land war. I don't think anybody else's children should either. I would rather Russia just took over than a generation were sacrificed to prevent it.

What an absolutely ridiculous and insensitive thing to say. probably the only reason you can even make such silly comments is because WW2 and WW1. I'm sure the thousands of families who lost loved ones would be very interested in your thought on the matter.

@Naptrappedmummy
Well several people have pointed out that women wouldn't be exempt from this if it happened. And women also fight on the frontline in the infantry. So they'd not just be among men.

@Mummytotwonow try not to worry pet, they'll never make it stick and any kids now would be collecting their pension before the Govt could get its act together.

Mambo19866 · 25/01/2024 21:27

Don’t forget we are in the AI age now. What’s stopping them posting videos on social media of women being attacked or children which have been artificially created to play on the emotions of the youth to make them want fight.
