Sorry if I’ve missed any threads on this.

It’s not just sky news reporting this but for days now in the media this is being raised.

AIBU - to be extremely worried and concerned about this?

Is anyone else not worried?? Are we being prepared ready as “the higher up” know more and the threat is bigger than we’re told.

what age would it be from and to??

l‘m so scared for the world our children are growing up in 😢

Time to 'think the unthinkable' and consider UK conscription, says Britain's former top NATO commander

General Sir Richard Sherriff tells Sky News that even if Russia is defeated in the war against Ukraine, it is going to remain determined to rebuild another empire, subjugate Ukraine, and then move on to other ex-Soviet countries, like NATO members. Tha...

I dunno. I’m at the point now where I’m wondering if the Russians could do a better job of governing the country that the pile of arsewipes currently not even trying to pretend they give a shit about us.

It’s not the same as tyrannical rule, autocratic government and system wide human rights abuses.

This is just offensive. Highly offensive.

You sound ridiculous. The worst poverty in this country is absolutely nothing compared to how Russian people have been treated by their government

Lol

You have no idea do you. Check your privilege.

And this one. Does fighting in Ukraine appeal more to you?

spicedlemonpie · 25/01/2024 21:15

Ive said it for years that there will be a war not as bad as the first ones but it will bad enough.
1930s are on the way back.

But i am ready for it.

soupfiend · 25/01/2024 21:15

As if this would ever happen!!!

It gets mentioned from time to time and the same conversations are had.

People are either too unwell, too fat, wouldnt pass any of the tests, would have a million MH or other disorders exempting them, wouldnt do it, wouldnt be wanted..

And Im in that list several times over!!!

I know, it’s a combination of utter delusion and a total lack of understanding of anything outside of their specific bubble.

And how do you think the Russians would treat your family?

Yes, some people don't have a clue about anything.

Why does@Terrrence think that Ukraine are fighting to the death? Because they know what the Russians are like and what they would do to them.

I think that @Terrrence should read some history books.

Exactly - see also attitude towards people fleeing from countries where this happens.

You only have to read what happened in Germany and the occupied countries in WW2 to realise the barbarity and abuses people - especially in power - can do to other people.

Prisoners would be sent to war. Only serial killers would remain locked up, so we wouldn’t need most prison service staff,

Really?! Even rapists? God that's a scary thought.

Prisons would be quite full given all those who seem to think they would be conscientious objectors, and by the time conscriptions arrived, the wolf would be at the door so to speak.
LOTS of people would be prepared to fight for our values and way of life, to keep our families safe - to keep YOU safe.

Some seem to think its fighting for a flag or king or a political party, it really isnt.

What generation are you from then? Dismissive of the younger generation not wanting to potentially die in a war. It is all very well belittling and noticebly from your posts, willingly sending the males off in your life to fight a war on your behalf, what about you?

I hate this attitude as if you're British and born post 1945 you have not known anything other than peace. My Grandad was in the Signal Corps in the 2nd WW landed on Gold beach on D day and saw his friend's head blown off, he had to be ahead of fellow soldiers, hooking up communication lines, I went with him and my Dad to Normandy for him to receive his 50th anniversary D day medal. He was a modest man and didn't really want to go as after the war he wanted to forget it all such was the horror, my Dad persuaded him but he wouldn't go for the official ceremony, he visited a month later and was given it at the local Mayor's office. When we visited Gold beach he cried, I'd never seen him cry before, I was 14 and completely unaware of the enormity of the sacrifices that generation had made, it all seems in vain now. You damn right I want my teen DS and younger DD to experience happiness and be unburdened by the weight of war otherwise what was the point of my Granddad's efforts!

This. I think a lot of people have an abstract view of what war actually is. It is fucking brutal men just don’t get shot. People get killed with knives, fire, barehands etc grown men screaming for their mothers as they die. ive unintentionally seen reels on Instagram that show people dying and it feels really horrible and really effects me for days after and that’s just a video. I have huge amounts of respect for those men that were willing to die for their home.

Then you have a serious lack of understanding about current affairs. Your comment is pretty offensive to anyone from Ukraine and even some Russians.

YesSirMam · 25/01/2024 21:18

Can you not see consider the reality of an invasion? I think people are so removed, luckily for us, they post this stuff

No. Because there is no reality of an invasion.

Society would break down. We would have looting and martial law.

But it's never going to happen as we would be nuked first. It's patently ridiculous that people think conscription would ever come to.pass.

tiredmama23 · 25/01/2024 21:19

I wouldn’t object to rapists being cannon fodder.

Nor would I but that wasn't really my concern. My concern was the additional female victims they would likely create when released, prior to becoming cannon fodder.

You have to hear the tales of occupation as well.
What people do to survive
How resistance is not tolerated.
The horrendous torture on people who resist'
The massacre of innocent civilians in revenge shooting
People who see an opportunity for power and revenge

😆

Ap24 · 25/01/2024 21:19

It's nice to see what some of you think about the military. I can't imagine you'd speak about nurses and paramedics in the same way.

Anyway, any future war won't be like the world wars that have gone before. It isn't just nuclear weapons that you should be worried about. But I suppose at least the cannon fodder and morons that are currently serving will at least have some training and equipment.

Posypointshoes · 25/01/2024 21:19

I think a lot of 'calling up' would be digital as well. Drones, social media for propaganda, IT that kind of thing. Without being crude, look at the information coming out of Gaza that has been the most affective in getting to the people - it's all social media and shared information on those kinds of streams. I think before boots on the ground, if we ever got there, it would be that kind of recruitment as well as the physical training side. There are a lot more facets to warfare now than there were last time.

I'm glad my Grandad isn't here to see all this. He fought in World War II and I think he would be aghast to see this all unravelling again. He always said he fought so that his children, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren etc wouldn't have to do the same.

YesSirMam · 25/01/2024 21:18

How would Russia get to us?

I'd go through the German plains and then cross the Channel.
Or a sneak attack via the North Sea

Posypointshoes · 25/01/2024 21:20

@Superstar22 what's a dead cat? Sorry, I'm probably being very stupid. I'm looking after my nephew at the moment and very sleep deprived!!
