Is it me or is Amanda Holden a total narcissist? (I know that word gets thrown around a lot on here but I think she absolutely is one). What kind of mother wants to be centre of attention at her DD’s 18th Birthday bash? Confused
Poor Lexi.

So aibu?

Amanda Holden stuns in sequin co-ord at daughter Lexi's 18th birthday

The radio presenter, 52, pulled out all the stops to celebrate her eldest child's milestone birthday.

This is such a horrible thread. Just a load of bitching about another woman for no good reason other than to spread some hate around.

Agreed! She looks fabulous, is clearly a fun person, and i bet her daughters absolutely adore her! Hope they had a wonderful night!

SingsongSu · 21/01/2024 16:35

This is one snap shot from the party. And it’s from the DM. How do we know she was trying to be the centre of attention? How have you made that assumption? She clearly loves her daughters, she’s always talking about them in interviews and on radio. She’ll also think this thread is hilarious (though I’m sure she’s got better things to do than read this - unlike the rest of us!) I also get the impression she doesn’t take herself too seriously.
Can we not just be women supporting women rather than being bitchy?!

Agree it's disgusting, superficial, behaviour from a woman her age.

Why wasn't she wearing a patterned wrap dress, with one foot forward and her hand on her hip?

Whilst pulling a DM sad face, whilst having her name attached to a major news story.

Major news is defined by:

  1. This random object causes/prevents cancer.
  1. My house price went down, it used to be £234,567 and now it is £234, 424.
  1. Meghan and Harry once breathed and that caused poverty and destruction.
  1. I worked from home and 1,2 and 3 all happened. And I put on 5 stone too.

Nailed it! And seamlessly blamed Harry & Meghan

Amanda Holden - our 9th favourite TV blonde.

I think I would’ve died of embarrassment if my mum had come to my 18th Birthday party, let alone made herself centre of attention like it was her 18th.

And yes her DD’s are much prettier than her, bet she hates that!

Edited

That's you though and your relationship with your mum. Not everyone is the same and I am sure she didn't just turn up..they probably really get on and lexi wanted her there, she's a fun mum and her mates enjoy her company. I don't drink anymore but when I did me and my mum had some wild nights out together, including birthdays. My mum got on with all my friends when I was this age and early 20s and we went out frequently at weekends, my mum had drinks and danced and had a laugh, it was great, we all got on, why would I be embarrassed about my mum having fun?

lol she literally believes in 5G coronavirus conspiracy theories, she's not a parent any rational person is going to be proud of.

Zone2NorthLondon · 21/01/2024 16:41

A mum over 30 should wear a Me & Em wrap dress with a shrug or bolero and sip a small white wine. No tassles! No shimmy! Quietly. Invisibly. Blending into the farrow & ball tasteful muted grey. At a party as a woman one mustn’t do anything more flamboyant than bring the host a thoughtful conspicuously expensive gift. To demonstrate how restrained and mumsy one is. Gosh over 30 I’d expect most naice women to have their foof tarmaced over and show some restraint .

Yes but Lexi is even more beautiful than her mum. Amanda will hate that.

She looks like she’s had lip fillers already.

Totally agree. It's absolutely vile. Mother goes to her daughters 18th and dances and has a laugh..... how is that a bad thing. Its ridiculous. People are jealous because they're boring mums who didn't get invited to their child's 18th. My mum came to mine and got drunk with us and danced and had a laugh. So what?

Ponoka7 · 21/01/2024 16:45

I must go to strange 18/21st birthday parties because it has been the norm to call their Mum up and give her flowers. Likewise actually dance with your parents at your wedding etc. They are family occasions. I've got a soft spot for AH because watching wild at heart was something that only me and my youngest did together, we were gutted when she died in it in 2008. I agree that she's just a Mum joining in. Plus, her DD is trying to break into modelling and probably reality TV/presenting, so she's going to want the exposure that her Mum can bring. AH doing what she has done has got her DD's party in the newspapers and across SM. Ash's money has put her in a privileged position. I don't think that she's upset about anything.

Peanutsnanna · 21/01/2024 16:45

Enjoying herself while she can. Won't be long before she disintegrates into a pile of plastic. Her lips remind me of a sink plunger.

Newchapterbeckons · 21/01/2024 16:46

I think she has a drink problem.

She must have had them underage because her lips haven't changed since she was a teen. Can't we just leave other women's appearance alone?

Amanda is famous for being famous and some schlocky media gigs. Of course she’ll shimmy at a party
Of course it’ll be in the DM. Of course someone on MN is aghast. Mumsnet and the daily mail are closely entwined. MN posters link the DM and they inevitably protest they don't read the mail, just, umm, posting, yes posting for reference….oh yeah
Was her daughter put out? None of us genuinely no. Maybe? Or perhaps her daughter just thought there’s mum doing her thang(again)
So frankly I don’t care
Amanda career is maintenance of her image and brand , this is what she does
The rest of us have to do CPD and death by PowerPoint

She’s famous for being a singer actress and talent show judge

Whatarethethoughtsthatsurroundyou · 21/01/2024 16:52

What a nasty thread! That’s one snapshot of the party. Op you have no idea how much effort she put in organising it or what went on for the rest of the night. You also don’t know her presumably in person so you can only judge her from her tv persona.

My dd had an 18th birthday party and my dh and I were there for the first part and then made ourselves scarce for the second bit. I didn’t dance much but I do not have the youthful figure or energy that AH has! Go for it and enjoy life I say!

The only thing I know her from is her Italian house renovation series with Alan Carr and she comes across very well on that.

Its hardly 'bitchy' (jeez I hate that slur) to acknowledge that she's one of the most skilled wannabes to ever grace british tv! She made a career out of marrying les dennis, and would've stilleto'd over every and any chunt to further her 'career'.

Given her form, the notion that she'd gladly steal her own child's thunder isnt that much of a stretch! Meh.

KarenNotAKaren · 21/01/2024 16:53

Castlerock44 · 21/01/2024 16:12

Or maybe just make it about her daughter instead of herself. I'm sure she regularly enjoys herself.

So should the only person in the room dancing singing and having fun be the birthday girl? And anyone else who dares to dance is making it about them? Or just the 52yo woman?

Zone2NorthLondon · 21/01/2024 16:54

Newchapterbeckons · 21/01/2024 16:46

And you’ve based that on what? A sofa consultation on mn. Using DM &Mn bile as collateral

The donmar aren’t calling her anytime soon

I was talking about Lexi’s lips actually. Googling suggests you can have them done at 16 but most reputable practitioners don’t do this.

LiveLaughCryalot · 21/01/2024 16:57

She looks like she's having a blast. I love what she's wearing. It looks very comfortable, perfect for dancing in!

She made a career out of being an actress singer and talent show judge, a career that has lasted 25 years or so after her marriage ended.

Fuck me the misogyny on this thread is rank - woman only successful because of nobody husband from over 2 decades ago.

The spite and jealousy is pathetic. I feel sorry for you.

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 21/01/2024 16:58

@KarenNotAKaren yes we've got to sit down and sip a white wine spritzer daintily in the corner and not draw any attention to ourselves whatsoever.
If you can make your beige dress blend in with the wallpaper, even better.
