to eat the same breakfast and lunch every single day?

I didn't realise it was weird until a colleague pointed it out. Disclaimer - the colleague is a friend, we were just chatting - she wasn't criticising!

Every week I pot up 5 lots of overnight oats (literally just oats and a spoon of trail mix) and have 1 a day for breakfast

I cook a chicken on a Sunday and have a chicken, pease pudding and stuffing sandwich every day for lunch.

I use the rest of the chicken in a family meal, sometimes dh will make himself a sandwich with it.

I've been doing this for about 2 years straight. Every single work day - never given it a thought!

How weird am I?

I have the exact same breakfast each morning.. Cornflakes, A peanut butter sandwich, and a bag of Red Leicester mini cheddars Mmmmmm... 😋with a Nescafe latte, usually Vanilla flavour. If you've reached enlightenment why change it?

Pepperpot3862 · 20/01/2024 19:31

After COVID and taste smell went crazy. Lost a stone in a week. Has taken 2years to get weight back on despite same food.I'm on roast 🐔 dinners, sometimes it's fish stem veg. Porridge for breakfast and oatcakes n ham lunch. Apples n banana Ella's! Three years of same. Weight stable, no mid age spread, age 61,clear skin. Under specialist, he says I'm getting all the nutrients, not to worry.

FuckBalledTwattyPiss · 20/01/2024 19:32

I guess you are just not very interested in food. There are definite advantages to that.

Some people get up, catch the same train and go to the same job every day.
Is that boring?
What about going home to the same house every day. Is that boring?

Don't even get started on going home to the same husband every evening!

nopenotplaying · 20/01/2024 19:36

I would eat cooked chicken after day 3. But then if you've been doing this for years and survived who am I to judge 😂

HollyJollyRobin · 20/01/2024 19:40

I do the same and so does my husband! I just find it easier!

Daphnis156 · 20/01/2024 19:40

Sounds acceptable, if boring.
Do you read the same book over and over?

OddityOddityOdd · 20/01/2024 19:43

My DD ate a cheese sandwich for lunch every school lunchtime from 5-18. Her choice, not mine.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 20/01/2024 20:00

It frees me up to think about my outfit and makeup choices for work!

😁

autienotnaughty · 20/01/2024 22:17

I have poridge every morning I can't be arsed to think of something else. For lunch I usually have a portion of last nights tea reheated. So I don't have to think about it but it is different every day, if I don't have that I have a jacket potato

Ozgirl75 · 20/01/2024 22:49

I also like a no decision lunch and brekky. I also watch my weight as I gain kg so easily. So I have a date and nut protein ball for breakfast and a bowl of natural yogurt for lunch with fruit, sesame, pumpkin and sunflower seeds.
I do vary my dinner though!
I worked with a woman once who had the same dinner every night Mon-Fri (salmon and rice) and then would buy one of those massive Cadbury family bars and eat it over Fri-sun with whatever food she liked.

Ozgirl75 · 20/01/2024 22:54

I also buy exactly the same jeans and if I find a top I like, I buy it in every colour that I like. I just find it frees brain space for more interesting things!
I do like clothes and have nice ones for going out but day to day I would happily wear a variation of the same outfit (and do).
when I worked in London I just used to have 3 trouser suits and 5 shirts - like a school uniform!
I am fun in other ways. Probably.

FrangipaniBlue · 20/01/2024 23:19

I eat the same thing every day for my breakfast (full fat Greek yoghurt with a scoop of protein powder) and my lunch is usually 1 of 3 things (scrambled eggs, poached egg with avocado or cheese/meat platter).

It's just easier, as opposed to said, one (two?) less things to think about!

KarenNotAKaren · 20/01/2024 23:32

I largely WFH and when I do I make the same thing every lunchtime:
I fry a seasoned butterfly whole chicken breast, with large sliced onions (which caramelise) and thyme frying next to it

I mix vegan mayo with mustard and thyme and spread on toasted sourdough bread

On the bread goes the caramelised onions, followed by the chicken, topped with more onions

Squish it all down, slice it, you have a delicious chicken sandwich

If I’m feeling frivolous it will be steak not chicken

It’s bloody Delicous and I don’t care if it’s weird, never occurred to me to have anything different 😂

heartofglass23 · 21/01/2024 04:20

I find eating different food every day too stressful.

I love it when there's enough of one meal leftover to have the same the next day.

I have the same breakfast almost every day.
There's only about 4 different breakfasts I'd ever have and doubtful I'd even do all four in a month.

Lunch- I've eaten the same thing every day for months in the past.

At work it's always a sandwich and that only rotates between cheese tuna chicken or ham. But usually the same thing on consecutive days. Or I don't have all 4 in a week, maybe 2.

Dinner isn't much different.

There are certain meals we have every week. But it's unlikely I'd have more than 10 different dinners in a year.

Passingthethyme · 21/01/2024 06:45

If you enjoy it why not, sounds easy and would save you so much time and effort! I personally couldn't, I don't even like leftovers but I think it's great if you are fine with it. I have known plenty of people who have exactly the same thing for lunch

DarkRipePlum · 21/01/2024 10:19

I’m about to start the same again after a few months of not. It’s worked successfully for me in the past. I go one step further and do the same for dinners - week days are all about batch cooking for me. I have a very busy life and I want to reduce how much time I’m spending on things that don’t matter.

So, examples are:
breakfasts: protein shake and a banana
lunches: soup and an apple or orange
dinners: portion of batch cooked stew or casserole and if I’m still hungry, yogurt or piece of fruit for after.

Weekends are different and Saturday is ‘treat day’ so may have something like a homemade curry with naan or similar, and a nice dessert. Sundays are a bit more low key due to prepping for the week so maybe fish and couscous. Then back to batch cooking for in the week.

Menapausemum1974 · 21/01/2024 11:12

I have a homemade smoothie every morning

Ilovecleaning · 21/01/2024 17:32

All through high school my son had a packed lunch.every day it was one of the following:
cheese sandwiches
ham sandwiches
ham and cheese sandwiches
lol 😀 True!

MissersMercer · 21/01/2024 17:34

You are completely normal in my house. My sons only eaten the same 3 foods for the last 16 years.

AJ65 · 21/01/2024 17:40

I go to the same cafe pretty much every day and order the same meal, I like the routine of it, and it's one less thing to think about.

pineapplesundae · 21/01/2024 17:43

Sounds yummy but make sure that you are eating enough variety of fruits and vegetables in order to maintain good health, far into the future.

angela1952 · 21/01/2024 17:47

We have eggs and toast every day for breakfast. We also have some sort of joint (beef, chicken, lamb or gammon) at the weekend and have it in our sandwiches for lunch. So more variation in the meat than you but we still eat a lot of cold meat sandwiches, sometimes cold meat and jacket potatoes too.
Nothing wrong with that @NorthernGirlie

NanaGary · 21/01/2024 17:48

You’re not being unreasonable. But you might like to try putting some seeds, yoghurt, honey and fresh fruit with the oats and milk (thus making Birchermuesli). I eat that every day and have done so for about 40 years I think it’s pretty good for me, and maybe part of the reason why people are amazed to discover that I’m 81 not 67.

Blueink · 21/01/2024 17:53

I would prefer to prepare things to be eaten fresh, it doesn’t seem the best idea to be eating these things more than 3 days later, especially the chicken.

The lack of variety and eating unconsciously is also unhealthy. It won’t be great for your gut microbiome.

I get your points about ease and cost but this goes beyond organised batch cooking and would consider this outside of normal range of behaviour.
