to eat the same breakfast and lunch every single day?

I didn't realise it was weird until a colleague pointed it out. Disclaimer - the colleague is a friend, we were just chatting - she wasn't criticising!

Every week I pot up 5 lots of overnight oats (literally just oats and a spoon of trail mix) and have 1 a day for breakfast

I cook a chicken on a Sunday and have a chicken, pease pudding and stuffing sandwich every day for lunch.

I use the rest of the chicken in a family meal, sometimes dh will make himself a sandwich with it.

I've been doing this for about 2 years straight. Every single work day - never given it a thought!

How weird am I?

I have phases of doing similar with porridge and lentil soup - but only phases.
For me, that means I'm eating fairly healthily.

Big change - working in an office with breakfast provided - I make my porridge WITHOUT soaking the oats overnight.
Is actually quite nice, more texture.

BaconAndAvocado · 21/01/2024 17:55

Not weird at all.

I have berries, seeds and Greek yogurt every morning and a salad with tuna or sardines every day.

Inexpertjuggler · 21/01/2024 17:55

I’m exactly like this. Always have been, and I look forward to my meals, knowing how much I enjoy them. Saw a documentary where this kind of eating habits goes hand in hand with easily maintaining weight, and I guess that’s also me, so, all in all, it’s working for me

fetchacloth · 21/01/2024 17:56

I tend to do this as it makes the weekly shop easier.
I absolutely loathe food shopping so I want to be in and out of the supermarket as quickly as possible.😎

WilhelminaC · 21/01/2024 18:02

Got nothing to do with anyone what you eat

BooBooDoodle · 21/01/2024 18:04

My husband can eat the same thing day in day out. I don’t. I have to eat what I fancy there and then and if I do take a lunch, I sometimes can’t eat it because I know what I’ve made and after thinking about it, I don’t fancy it. I’m the weird one in my house. My food has to be impulsive. I can’t eat a set weekly menu either because the thought of knowing in advance kills my appetite. I can’t eat leftovers as I had it the night before so don’t want the same thing yet again. I can happily smash a roast knowing about it all week though. I love food, I don’t like it set or uniformed in any way, has to be what I like when I like it.

FootieMama · 21/01/2024 18:09

I do similar. But I rotate lunch a bit. Salad entire summer. Now I am having soup everyday
Breakfast everyday is the same for a couple of years now. I enjoy the routine and it is easy. Dinner and weekends is varied

Seemslikethat · 21/01/2024 18:12

I eat muesli every morning and for lunch I take a box filled with spinach leaves, chickpeas, cucumber, celery, avocado, cherry tomatoes and olives along with a little pot of strawberries, grapes and blueberries. I also take a banana for break each day.

i do eat a varied dinner though - mostly as DH cooks that!

When I was a teenager I ate Heinz tomato soup for every meal so I figure it’s healthier than that!

I also have lots of versions of pretty much the same dress that goes along with black tights and black boots and reduces any clothing decisions.

lindyloo57 · 21/01/2024 18:14

I do this with lunch, I don't eat breakfast anymore I do 16 hour no eat thing, I try not to eat after 8pm, then I will have cereal at around midday, I usually have branflakes or porrage.

Ineke · 21/01/2024 18:15

I read somewhere that doing this sort of thing, as well as wearing the same clothes for more than one or two days at a time frees up the brain from having to make decisions and leaving space for better things. It makes sense to me. The hardest morning for my children was when it was a non uniform day, so much drama in trying to decide what to wear. I would say that as long as you are getting all the essential nutrients and vitamins it’s fine.

Mummadeze · 21/01/2024 18:18

I like having the same breakfast and lunch everyday too. I am pretty fussy and get acid reflux and have allergies so I know what I want and I stick to it!

Bumblebeestiltskin · 21/01/2024 18:18

If you like it, you like it, I suppose! As long as you're packing in a day's worth of varied nutrients in your evening meal, then you do you! It does make me feel a bit sad though, you obviously don't enjoy food that much.

Longleggedgiraffe · 21/01/2024 18:29

It really is up to you. The one thing such stands out for me is your apparent need to rush to eat lunch. Why does it take too long to eat a salad? Everyone is entitled to a reasonable lunch break, but it seems you're not even getting that. Is it your job that doesn't really allow for it? e.g. Nursing, etc, or is it a matter of you just working through without stopping 'to smell the roses' as it were? I'd say that you might need to have a think about that, too.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/01/2024 18:30

My dh does this, too. The only meal that’s different every day is dinner.
I’ve often thought he’s like a dog - eating the same dog food every day. Maybe it’d be an idea for someone to produce tins of Man Food?

Oh lordy, people outside the professions of teaching, social work, nursing, police and many others really dont have a clue do you!!!

And in answer to your query, I would say salad takes a lot time to eat compared to a sandwich, too much crunching and bitty bits. You can just swallow a sandwich down most of the time

ASundayWellSpent · 21/01/2024 18:36

I would love to do this and be perfectly happy with it! But my family are all food enthusiasts and want delicious, varied food every meal. Luckily my DH caters to this for the four of us because I honestly would be happy with soup and a sandwich 90% of the time!

facepalmdaily · 21/01/2024 18:40

It’s entirely up to you. If it makes you happy and fulfilled then go for it.

Wouldyouguess · 21/01/2024 18:42

After 3 days the measl are not very nutritious though, if you cook on Sunday then really Wednesday is the latest you should be having them...

CleaningAngel · 21/01/2024 18:45

Not weird iam very routine with my food I have the same breakfast which consists of weetabix blueberries and banana.
I used to eat fish finger sandwiches every day.
But I have the same pack up every day, varies to the filling of sandwich but always has lettuce in it with said filling, always a packet of quavers and either a yougsrt or fruit

pollymere · 21/01/2024 18:50

As long as it isn't a dangerous ritual (that bad things will happen if you had something else, or that it brings you luck) I don't see an issue with it, other than to maybe try something different on a Friday perhaps? It's also possibly not the healthiest of sandwiches. I used to have Ritz crackers, ham and cucumber every day with occasional cheese instead of the ham 😂

kennycat · 21/01/2024 19:01

That’s pretty much what I do too. I treat myself though and have sketching slightly different on a Friday (put honey in my porridge and have coffee with breakfast) but largely I stick to the same weekday breakfast as lunch. Less thinking about it means it’s easier for me.

anon666 · 21/01/2024 19:02

I'm similar. Trying to mix up lunches at the moment so I can reach this 30 fruit and veg per week thing but otherwise I have precisely the same breakfast and a very similar lunch (sandwich/ salad) every day. 😳

Hammy65 · 21/01/2024 19:15

Not sure if it’s been mentioned earlier, but I read not so long ago that Victoria Beckham has grilled fish and vegetables almost every single night. Has done for years!! Doesn’t appear to have done her much harm! If this breakfast/lunch routine works for you - then that’s brilliant 😊!

LaughingCat · 21/01/2024 19:18

Oh god…your dream is my nightmare. Eating leftovers makes my head go squirrelly, so I couldn’t imagine knowing that I’d be eating the same thing every single workday.

I am in awe though, as I have to spend hours a week planning and prepping food…I would LOVE to not have to do that because of my stupid, unsatisfied head. YADNBU!
